They said that Menuhin suffered from technical problems from the late 1950s - I have read suggestions of problems with his bowing arm . I have also read reports that he could late into his career in the 1980s have going days when suddenly everything would go right . This seems to have been very much a good day - stunning , musical deeply emotional playing - a great Brahms Concerto to compare with his legendary recordings with Fürtwangler and Kempe
egardless of the technical and emotional problems that the great Menuhin suffered, he remains the only sacred monster who offered scholarships to poor children in Eastern Europe, the only man with a strong social side! God bless him!
Brahms had the gift of melody, much like Rachmaninoff. Some of his compositions, had short episodes of incredibly beautiful melodies, spaced with a bit of wandering as well. Brahms wrote this for Joseph Joachim, I believe I read, either on the sheet music or online. This is prime example of masters at work. Both Menuhin and Brahms. Sometimes one wonders, where does this beauty come from. Only God knows.
Still brings chills for me.

one of the most touching parts of Sachs' Toscanini bio was the affection and respect he had for the young Yehudi
