@HatBoyHarvey hello! Could you please make a video of how to clean the Way of rain under the front window? I guess something stucked inside and I have a lot of steam on the front window!
Hi, Harvey. Do you know the exact part number of the seal attached to the car body? That you washed in first place on the video. It is easy to replace? I'm having problems when washing, as water enters by the upper frame of the door. By the way, I solved the not starting issue; it was a battery problem. Thank you very much in advace!!
😊😅 0:34 Great vid and explanation as usual. I am still trying to work out what the "normal" drainage route is for water that enters the door cavity via window. If we make the inner panel/door seal as you show, where does water accumulating in door cavity escape to? I haven't been able to examine the door cavity yet so apologies if there are obvious drains! I just spotted comment from Rycka (3 months ago?)and reply which addresses my question...not sure it fully explains but on the right track :- 😂 Just found there are 2 good sized (about 12mmx4mm guesstimate) drain slots in door bottom near outer skin...makes sense now. Don't think I can attach photos but once you feel or get down and look at door bottom they are obvious.
I love how you disassemble everything with care and precision. and dont forget the knowledge. my 17-year-old skodia fabia combi is pretty beat up by amateurs who don't have this in them, but do ask for the money. #plastic is not metal handle it with care
Thank you so much for your kind appraisal, means a lot and helps keep me going as I need it right now :-). (Medical issues are getting in the way of my video making!) I think they design plastics more for assembly than disassembly these days and so easily breakable.
The door card doesn't necessarily get wet when it leaks into the floor pan. I would do the sealing repair and see what happens, if no luck then it could be coming from the front card as some have had leak there also :-)
Hi mate, I recently found your channel. I was wondering if you'd know about the mk2 fabia. So there are water drain holes on the bottom of the door. Is it part of the design to have them fill up with water and pour out when doors are opened? Only worried as I've had corroded sill due to it been parked up but now fixed. The water seems to come through the door into inner door but comes out when open
@@Rycka9 this is common on the fabia1 and commonly leaked into the rear footwells. I'm not sure if this was addressed fully on mk2, but my belief is they have. I don't know exactly what they did, but my understanding is water enters via the window seal edges then travel through the door cavity and out through the little slot holes at the bottom of the door which is external to the car. Water will then make it's way out over the sill and can sleep underneath exacerbating the conditions for rust over time. I would make sure these holes are cleaned out for the free run of water. Water shouldn't just escape when you open a door, but seal out continuously. Also examine the top seal and consider replacing.
inner panel fixings: My car uses M6 threaded bolts with a 10mm head x 10mm thread length. I would recommend using steel rivnuts. Be careful taking rivets out; don't enlarge the hole.
Hello my friend thnx for the video but today in the morning i just go in my fabia and two window dont open electric from my side and pasanger side ...another hand everything work ..? What do you think ?
Hello my friend... when I remove fus and re-put again works good for 10 minut or 15 after that does not work again ... What do you think to change fuse or to reset batery or i dont know ? Thank you for your time .
My guess is loose/broken wire fault or connections or switches. Try new fuses. Have you tried holding the driver’s side open button up for 3 seconds when closed? Is the battery good/ground? disconnect/reconnect bat. Are windows running clean/easy? If opening and closing doors effect operation then broken wires going into door. I would also check Connections to convenience module. Convenience module fault? Hope this helps :-)
Hi and thanks for your informative video, I have just tried this but found my inner panel seems to be held on by rivets , it's a MK1 Fabia .. any ideas ? Thanks Carl
Unless you could dry the seal out fully I doubt it would last before leaking again, but you could try it and see, nothing to loose really as it's all relatively hidden.
Ive got my door card loosly attatched at the top now ready to put some silicone in tomorow, but if the water is still leaking in between the door and inner panel will it not build up a pool and steam up still?
You need to thoroughly dry everthing out first so the silicone will seal between the panel and the door (best done in summer or /garage/heater/hair dryer). I removed my soden seal and replaced with a bead of silicone /dried/re-seal and a cover bead od silicon. Video from 6:50 onward. If you're worried about water bridging over the door seal also, clean it well with soapy water and where it meets the the door or replace it. Hope this helps :-)
Many thanks, I've got the same problem. However I do have a question: if you seal up the bottom of the door, doesn't the door just fill up with water as I can't see any drain holes in the bottom of my car door?
You could just cover over the top of the seal area with silicon (any will do) but it is best to be able to lift the panel so new silicon can sandwich in-between the gap for a better seal. It is a bit of a pain with the rivet true, but you can drill these out and then fit aftermarket 'RIVNUTS' (no special tools needed to fit) that then will use bolts.
Good question; there are 2 small holes under the bottom of the door lip. I have never noticed any sloshing about of water, so the holes don't seem to get blocked. Another theory of mine is water may get in by capillary action from pooling at the bottom of the body door sill and touching the inner panel past the door seal, but I didn't dare say that in the video as it sounds like i have too much time to think of such things. Anyway the fix seems to work, so no worries, happy days :-)
I thought exactly the same, any information out there as to whether this happens? Or, Josh Watton if you wouldn't mind - any updates after fixing yours? Cheers 👍
Quick question - is there a way for the water to drain out of the door once the leak is sealed? Doesn't it keep collecting there since it's found a way to get in? Obviously it's has worked for you for a long time so I'm going to do it too. Thanks for sharing the fix!
Hi, I have an Octavia 1.9TDI estate 2003 with the same problem. A new electric window windings motor was installed a few years ago & may have been the cause (thin plastic membrane had to be torn to get to the motor but not replaced). If water does get in the door panel & if sealed where does the water go? I can't see any drain holes to allow water to get out.
@@HatBoyHarvey After removing interior bits from door panel it was found (after testing) water was coming in through the door but originating at the bottom of the electric window. Car is old so I could just reseal door panel. Ideally, it is best to fix window seal. Your video just shows how to fix the leak but not the cause of the leak. Any ideas? Just fix leak by stopping water coming into car o/and fix cause of leak?
I show in the video where I think the water gets into the panel by the window felt seam, from there is seeps down and soaks into the foam seal. You maybe able to get a new window felt lined trim from a dealer, but as this problem is common a new one will most likely fail again sometime in the future. Maybe something can be done to the trim to rejuvenate it, but I don't know how - yet.
You could, but there are already holes there. You have to bend down a lot to see them under the rim edge. Whatever holes there are, water has to drip off the door vertically down. When there is light rain water ingress, water will creep horizontally, hence why the fabia's drain holes are positioned where they are, on this edge :-)
I am gonna do this, the situation goes worse and worse! Harvey I have a question. I might have missed maybe, after we do this, where the rain will go? Where will it exit?
Thank you for the information - really nicely portrayed as always :) Are there any drain holes in the bottom of the door? It seems to me that the rain is getting in at the top and must be filling the door itself to then leak out of the seal behind the door card. How does it ever drain? Previous cars (nissan/toyota) have had a little hole at the bottom of the door for any rain to leak out of. Would it be an entirely crazy idea to drill a small hole?
@@HatBoyHarvey Massive thanks for the heads up - I'll have to have another look as I couldn't see them on my car or on your video. Bathtub sealant it is then =)
@@ye427 benim anladığım en alt kısımda su tahliye delikleri var ancak bir şekilde iç tarafa kenarlardan geliyor. Bunun için en iyisi komple sızdırmaz yapmak. Sadece alt kısım yetmeyebilir.
If you look right underneath the door you will see that there are some small holes for the water to drain out. Obviously these should not be blocked, but you can easily tell as you can hear water swishing about inside the doors when opening/closing them :-)
Thanks, I used silicone sealant with fungicide, same stuff you use around windows, but not the ordinary flexable type as these will crack with all the movement :-)
later models come with rivets, which need drilling out and either replacing with more rivets or installing RIVNUTS and retro-fitting bolts for ease of service :-)
Only today we found our Skoda had steamed up rear windows, wet carpet and door panels. (Only had the car two weeks) so now I know where the problem lies. Do the doors not have drain holes then?? Thanks for posting
Yes they do have drain holes, but unfortunately they don't help as water seams to collect and soak into the foam seal around the perimeter of the metal carrier somehow and then onto the bottom of the fabric panel and across the rubber door seal.
Thanks for awesome tutorial. I have just done this repair following your steps and its all done. Hope, its fixed. Please, Is this repair also needed on front doors? Because i think I have in my skoda fabia sometimes few water drops on the inner side.
Yes, I've heard that the fronts can get wet also, but not as bad. Also one thing to note is; behind the nearside C pillar panel is a connection to the rear wiper jet which also can leak. have a look at my video on it: ruclips.net/video/2nfKzxZUelY/видео.html
@@areknowak9780 universal silicone. probably for outdoor use with resistance to minus and high plus temperatures. Its been 3 years now, and still works.
Yes, later models unfortunately came with riveted panels (why?). These are large 6.4mm rivets that you will have to drill out. Once the panel is off, the window mech can be accessed to replace the window. Given the large size of the rivets, another means of fixing them securely back into place would probably be easier. Maybe you could drill new holes to the side, seal the original holes with rubber grommets and use smaller rivets.
If you swapped them for bolts I don't think they would be secure enough as there is no tread/nut on the other end other than the thickness of the door metal to tap into :-)
Hiya chap thanks for the video. My carpet isn't damp I've actually got a puddle in the back of the car haha is that a different issue? Do you think just drilling more holes would have the same effect? Thanks.
Water doesn't seem to collect in the door so the holes are doing their job, it seems that water seeps onto the foam seal somehow and bridges via the innner panel.
Great video there!!! I bought fabia combi 1.4 75 hp 2005 a few months ago and the car is just simply amaizing. I noticed that isssue with the same door side. I just put some towels temorarry just next to the door sealing, because the winter just came and at this point i wont be able to repair it. Well i thought about the window sealing. If the issue is there would you recomend me to change it? On a first sight i dont see any damage on it, as i dont see either on yours. If i put this silicone only on the metal side door panel i think that the water will keep on getting inside and will stay there, eventually causing some rust. Can you advice me something? Cheers and thanks again!
Yes, these drain holes are easily missed as they are right under the lip of the bottom skin, but they only stop the door filling up with water. The water drips onto the inner panel seal from the inside and seeps through onto the door trim panel bridging the actual rubber door seal. That is my take on it anyway :-)
Similar to front. Remove the window glass first, But has pegs, not clamps. ruclips.net/video/Nhl3MeOlPTw/видео.html I will do a video of this at some stage :-)
Thank you for this video. Im in the process of buying a Fabia Mk1 that has some electrical problems. Can this be the reason? Is there a similar water leak problem in the front or from the windshield ? Also can you make a video on how to fix the central locking or at least diagnose any common knows issues ? Great work! Subbed !
Your welcome, Great car, but can have a few electrical issues/glitches. haven't come across water from windshield. It depends what central locking issue, mine sometimes does funny things when stood a long time in damp weather, also worn front door lock micro switch is common. Vid on list :-)
Not sure on the nature of the problem with the central locking.. haven't even got the car yet to investigate. Im thinking like a checklist video, fuses, battery connections, etc... Thanks to your channel I feel like i can almost fix the problem my self and save a trip to the shop. Almost :D P.S. "You're"
It is always that more satisfying to be able to fix stuff yourself in my opinion, saves money that you may need for a job you can't do yourself and you know exactly what has been done to your ride :-)yes you're not your, always doing that sorry :-(
I reckon water gets in the driver's door through the window seal and damages the central locking module inside the door - it used to click the locks repeatedly or open the windows in wet weather. The cheap 'temporary' solution was to remove the fuse to the central locking, the doors still lock manually.
nup, the water exits at the bottom of the door. If you bend down to have a look close to the seam there are two (if I remember right) slotts for the water to run out.:-)
@@HatBoyHarvey well that's good then. I'll give it a go if the '07 i just bought gives me trouble. I just started to do the same process on my mk1 Fabia on both rear doors. It took me two hours to get one of the inner panels off. Those panel clips were really putting up a fight. Unfortunately, my metal inner panel is riveted and I don't have the tools to drill them off and replace them with screws. My question is, is it enough if I let it dry for a bit and then put silicone around it without taking down the inner panel? And again, your channel is really useful! Thanks for doing this! :)
If you can squeeze some into the gap, or pry a gap it MAY work for a bit, but would need to be sure it is super dry as the seal sucks up water like a sponge and will be very difficult to get dry properly.
@@HatBoyHarvey Thanks, Harvey! I will try my best to squeeze some silicone in there but it seems impossible. It's riveted pretty tight. The seal is sure soaking wet. Are there any holes at the bottom of the door where the water can drain out? There should be some but I couldn't find it.

If we make the inner panel/door seal as you show, where does water accumulating in door cavity escape to? I haven't been able to examine the door cavity yet so apologies if there are obvious drains!
I just spotted comment from Rycka (3 months ago?)and reply which addresses my question...not sure it fully explains but on the right track :- 😂
Just found there are 2 good sized (about 12mmx4mm guesstimate) drain slots in door bottom near outer skin...makes sense now. Don't think I can attach photos but once you feel or get down and look at door bottom they are obvious.
The drain holes aren't easy to see and I think that is why many assume there are none, but they are definitely there!
@@HatBoyHarvey take good care.
These days if you break some plastic you need a whole new unit of it
@@HatBoyHarvey sory to hear that, hope you've recoverd well
Hi, my fabia rear drivers side footwell is soaking wet but door card bone dry. Any idea what it could be? Thanks
Great job. You are TOP Man! THANKS A LOT!
Alright mate doing this our self’s just now we’ve drilled out the Rivets but what bolts did you use to put it back together to re secure it? Cheers
inner panel fixings:
My car uses M6 threaded bolts with a 10mm head x 10mm thread length. I would recommend using steel rivnuts. Be careful taking rivets out; don't enlarge the hole.
Hello my friend thnx for the video but today in the morning i just go in my fabia and two window dont open electric from my side and pasanger side ...another hand everything work ..? What do you think ?
Hi, Window switches can become temperamental after long time use.
Before replacing have a look at their connections inside each handle :-)
Hello my friend... when I remove fus and re-put again works good for 10 minut or 15 after that does not work again ...
What do you think to change fuse or to reset batery or i dont know ?
Thank you for your time .
My guess is loose/broken wire fault or connections or
switches. Try new fuses. Have you tried holding the driver’s side open button
up for 3 seconds when closed? Is the battery good/ground? disconnect/reconnect
bat. Are windows running clean/easy? If opening and closing doors effect
operation then broken wires going into door. I would also check Connections to convenience
module. Convenience module fault? Hope this helps :-)
Hi and thanks for your informative video, I have just tried this but found my inner panel seems to be held on by rivets , it's a MK1 Fabia .. any ideas ? Thanks Carl
Carefully drill the rivets out and fit rivnuts instead making life easier, happy days :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey do you think you could get away with just silicone of the join on the riveted ones?
If you look right underneath the door on the metal part there are 2 small drain holes, which need to be kept clear :-)
Just wondering i have rivets can't get into it take foam out will it still work without removing it and does it matter what silcone you use ?
You could just cover over the top of the seal area with silicon (any will do) but it is best to be able to lift the panel so new silicon can sandwich in-between the gap for a better seal. It is a bit of a pain with the rivet true, but you can drill these out and then fit aftermarket 'RIVNUTS' (no special tools needed to fit) that then will use bolts.
@HatBoyHarvey do you know roughly what size of rivit nuts i would need for this
Thank god for RUclips, fantastic video sir
Hope this helped you with your car ;-)
Does the water not now just get stuck inside the door? Or is there another route for it to escape?
Good question; there are 2 small holes under the bottom of the door lip. I have never noticed any sloshing about of water, so the holes don't seem to get blocked. Another theory of mine is water may get in by capillary action from pooling at the bottom of the body door sill and touching the inner panel past the door seal, but I didn't dare say that in the video as it sounds like i have too much time to think of such things. Anyway the fix seems to work, so no worries, happy days :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey thanks for the reply. I did this on mine yesterday on my MK1 Fabia so hoping it works. Thanks again
I thought exactly the same, any information out there as to whether this happens? Or, Josh Watton if you wouldn't mind - any updates after fixing yours? Cheers 👍

hi, do you have a video or guide on how to run a cable from the fuse box through the firewall of a fabia 2010 mk2
I don't know where on the Mk2, but Mk1 you can go through behind the glovebox to a grommet near scuttle panel.
Quick question - is there a way for the water to drain out of the door once the leak is sealed?
Doesn't it keep collecting there since it's found a way to get in?
Obviously it's has worked for you for a long time so I'm going to do it too. Thanks for sharing the fix!
I keep getting asked this, no worries the water doesn't collect as there are slot holes under the bottom of the door on the edge :-)
Probably right in suspecting the plastic membrane. Holes are underneath the door seam. A light and mirror may help you see the small slots.
Could I drill holes in the bottom of the door instead? I can buy a new door if it ever begins to rust around the drill holes.
You could, but there are already holes there. You have to bend down a lot to see them under the rim edge. Whatever holes there are, water has to drip off the door vertically down. When there is light rain water ingress, water will creep horizontally, hence why the fabia's drain holes are positioned where they are, on this edge :-)
Hi, do you think the problem has caused from the window seal at the base of the window at 0.43 min. in the video? Thanks.
Yes , It iw caused by that seal wearing out overtime .
I am gonna do this, the situation goes worse and worse! Harvey I have a question. I might have missed maybe, after we do this, where the rain will go? Where will it exit?
Out of the drain holes under the bottom of the door :-)
Thank you for the information - really nicely portrayed as always :)
Are there any drain holes in the bottom of the door? It seems to me that the rain is getting in at the top and must be filling the door itself to then leak out of the seal behind the door card. How does it ever drain?
Previous cars (nissan/toyota) have had a little hole at the bottom of the door for any rain to leak out of. Would it be an entirely crazy idea to drill a small hole?
Thanks, you're welcome. There are drain holes underneath the rear door edge on the very outside edge of the sill :-)
@@HatBoyHarvey Massive thanks for the heads up - I'll have to have another look as I couldn't see them on my car or on your video. Bathtub sealant it is then =)

If you seal the bottom of door where does the water go. Does it sit in the door?
If you look right underneath the door you will see that there are some small holes for the water to drain out. Obviously these should not be blocked, but you can easily tell as you can hear water swishing about inside the doors when opening/closing them :-)

There is no 10mm bolts holding metal pannel though..
later models come with rivets, which need drilling out and either replacing with more rivets or installing RIVNUTS and retro-fitting bolts for ease of service :-)
Do you know which size of rivnuts will fit?
My car uses M6 threaded bolts with a 10mm head x 10mm thread length. I would recommend using steel rivnut preferred. Be careful taking rivets out
I tried to mount a m6 rivnut but it doesnt fit, how did you do? @@HatBoyHarvey
@@mohamedrhordo5344 in what way does it not fit?
Only today we found our Skoda had steamed up rear windows, wet carpet and door panels. (Only had the car two weeks) so now I know where the problem lies. Do the doors not have drain holes then?? Thanks for posting
Yes they do have drain holes, but unfortunately they don't help as water seams to collect and soak into the foam seal around the perimeter of the metal carrier somehow and then onto the bottom of the fabric panel and across the rubber door seal.
@@HatBoyHarveyOk.. I may use some foam rubber strip I have in stock. It sealed the leak around the Corsa relay box. Ta
Well done - thank you! Particularly suitable if the (device carrier / module) aluminium-panel is riveted and not screwed.
Unfortunately some later model are riveted, bummer, you just have to drill those out and fit thread-rivets so it becomes a bolt-on version.

Thanks for awesome tutorial. I have just done this repair following your steps and its all done. Hope, its fixed.

Yes, I've heard that the fronts can get wet also, but not as bad. Also one thing to note is; behind the nearside C pillar panel is a connection to the rear wiper jet which also can leak. have a look at my video on it: ruclips.net/video/2nfKzxZUelY/видео.html

@@HatBoyHarvey then very nothing can be done for her.
Thank you very much for the help
Thank you. Same problem.
i’ve got a rear door window to replace, my bolts are rivets, any tips on how i should go about replacing the window?
Yes, later models unfortunately came with riveted panels (why?). These
are large 6.4mm rivets that you will have to drill out. Once the panel is off,
the window mech can be accessed to replace the window. Given the large size of the rivets, another means of fixing them securely back into place would probably be easier. Maybe you could drill new holes to the side, seal the original holes with rubber grommets and use smaller rivets.
HatBoyHarvey Thanks for the reply! do you reckon i could just swap them for nuts or something?
If you swapped them for bolts I don't think they would be secure enough as there is no tread/nut on the other end other than the thickness of the door metal to tap into :-)
Hiya chap thanks for the video. My carpet isn't damp I've actually got a puddle in the back of the car haha is that a different issue? Do you think just drilling more holes would have the same effect? Thanks.
Water doesn't seem to collect in the door so the holes are doing their job, it seems that water seeps onto the foam seal somehow and bridges via the innner panel.
@@HatBoyHarvey ahh ok thanks for the reply I'll get it done over the weekend and give you a bell if it solves the issue.
Sorry that I repeat the question. I saw a fellow that ask the same below in a comment seciton. There are actually drain holes which is great! Cheers!
Yes, these drain holes are easily missed as they are right under the lip of the bottom skin, but they only stop the door filling up with water. The water drips onto the inner panel seal from the inside and seeps through onto the door trim panel bridging the actual rubber door seal. That is my take on it anyway :-)
How do you dismantle the inner metal panel?
Similar to front. Remove the window glass first, But has pegs, not clamps. ruclips.net/video/Nhl3MeOlPTw/видео.html I will do a video of this at some stage :-)
Great video, thank you
Glad you liked it :-)
Great video! that happens on all mk1 fabia models? Thanks!
Great minds think alike :-) did they sort it on the MK2? I'm not sure.
Almost :D
P.S. "You're"
It is always that more satisfying to be able to fix stuff yourself in my
opinion, saves money that you may need for a job you can't do yourself and you know exactly what has been done to your ride :-)yes you're not your, always doing that sorry :-(
I reckon water gets in the driver's door through the window seal and damages the central locking module inside the door - it used to click the locks repeatedly or open the windows in wet weather. The cheap 'temporary' solution was to remove the fuse to the central locking, the doors still lock manually.
so will the door just fill up with water after doing this?
nup, the water exits at the bottom of the door.
