I love the just chords breakdown, the picking pattern helps immensely and the straight chord shapes tab is something no one does or has does as right as this seems to be. I do feel like this song could be transposed into a simpler key, with more standard chord shapes but it's great to expand to new territory on the fretboard.

Once you get the tapping technique that John Mayer plays, you can play every single song that John Mayer wrote. I quite prefer the right hand pattern because it gives you a groove and percussion for background.

So, practicing this now with the thumb index technique. Not as bad as I think a lot of people chalked it up to be. Really focusing on the thumb placement for that 3rd chord, (honestly the transition from the 2nd to the 3rd chord is tricky for me. But as it goes for a fingerstyle song, I actually think this isn't bad.
This is good for start but John whacks the low E string very dynamically, like slap bass and almost doesn't even move the fingers, but the wrist instead. It's a very weird technique and I have only seen one guy get it right on youtube.
Mayer showed in a video that the thumb only plays bass, it's the index finger that should be used on all other notes (after youtube.com write: /shorts/navD83-aLYs)
