@@isohel9889 i’m not sure why you feel that it’s just so clear that I haven’t played jazz guitar but as of now most of my time and study is in jazz. I used to play a lot of blues and acoustic pop rock stuff like “Neon” 10 years ago but I began studying artists like Pat Metheny, Chick Corea and John Coltrane. This song Neon on its face seems really difficult to play, but it’s really not that difficult at all if you are even a semi disciplined guitarist. It’s in 4/4, only in one key, the solo section is only over 1 chord and the lead line is just over two bars, not 32 bars. Although I could perform Neon masterfully as a singer and songwriter and guitarist when I began playing jazz, I immediately realized I was in way over my head and still am. So there’s always room for growth that’s my point. Have a terrific day!

The timing, blues intro, and the right hand action, the voice, everything...blew my mind. Been studying and playing SRV, Clapton, BB, Mayer for 6 years. Hats off.
idk how many takes it took. maybe 1, maybe 500. but to play everything including the intro with genuinely no mistakes is so insanely impressive. no notes sounding off etc (except for some of the obvious low C string vibrating a little cause of the tuning, which in my opinion is a lovely addition to this song.)

You could play this side by side with JM in a packed stadium and no one would bat an eye. This is such an incredible cover and easily the best on the internet. That last "she COOOOMEEEESSS" was dead on and not easy to nail

This is hands down the most fulfilling cover of neon. A lot of guys can play it nicely but this is the first time I've seen someone sing it like Mayer does.
