@@isohel9889 i’m not sure why you feel that it’s just so clear that I haven’t played jazz guitar but as of now most of my time and study is in jazz. I used to play a lot of blues and acoustic pop rock stuff like “Neon” 10 years ago but I began studying artists like Pat Metheny, Chick Corea and John Coltrane. This song Neon on its face seems really difficult to play, but it’s really not that difficult at all if you are even a semi disciplined guitarist. It’s in 4/4, only in one key, the solo section is only over 1 chord and the lead line is just over two bars, not 32 bars. Although I could perform Neon masterfully as a singer and songwriter and guitarist when I began playing jazz, I immediately realized I was in way over my head and still am. So there’s always room for growth that’s my point. Have a terrific day!
Note for note, on the the guitar and vocals, this is hands down the best cover of this monstrosity of a song!

idk how many takes it took. maybe 1, maybe 500. but to play everything including the intro with genuinely no mistakes is so insanely impressive. no notes sounding off etc (except for some of the obvious low C string vibrating a little cause of the tuning, which in my opinion is a lovely addition to this song.)

This is hands down the most fulfilling cover of neon. A lot of guys can play it nicely but this is the first time I've seen someone sing it like Mayer does.

Dude you may want to search "Neon John Mayer Cifra Club" here on yt. its a brazillian channel where you'll find a lesson on how to play neon ( and a really good cover aswell by the teacher Leo Eymard). It is naturally in brazillian portuguese but the tabs are on screen all the time while he teaches (and im pretty sure that it has subtitles for people who speak english)
along with neon there are lots of tutorials of john's songs so check it out and good luck with the learning hahah (it took me a concrete week to learn neon)

Fingerstyle is another thing altogether, it's barely even comparable. The song you linked in fact is quick, but I have no reason to believe it's significantly more technically difficult than this version of Neon. It's easy to hear a fast song and confuse that with difficulty.
