I grew up fishing small ponds and streams in Texas. In my teens and 20s I got in to big lakes, big fish, tournaments, etc... now in my 40s I love nothing more than small ponds and streams!
This is going to be before pretty much all of you. My grandfather gave ma book called “fishing with mr Crabtree”. It was a black and white graphic book about this old guy teaching this kid to fish!, I still pick it up and read it, very dated, very obvious, but it’s an absolut joy, it’s a comfort read. What I’m saying is that, sometimes I find these vids like a little comfort read. So Carl (or Alex) I can never remember (apologies) your like the modern day mr Crabtree! And absolutely nobody can knock that! I’m sure this fictitious character “MrCrabtree”doffs his tweed cap, nods, eye contact for a second, then he turns, picks up his cane rod, and wonders into the mist and the shadow of a twisty little river in amongst the long frost covered grass, whispering something about chub…..
Ah wow. Cheers Geoff - that's amazing to hear. Yes that book means so much for so many. Yes, can see how it would hold so much comfort, and joy reading it again. So glad you get a similar feeling here :)
I love stream fishing. In Hungary my grandparents have a stream in their garden! It’s where I caught my first fish and I still do float fishing there! This summer I caught a decent chub but there are monster perch in there and they are what I try to target! Gudgeon are also common.
sorry to be off topic but does anyone know a trick to get back into an instagram account? I was dumb forgot my password. I love any assistance you can give me!
@Nicholas Titan I really appreciate your reply. I found the site on google and im trying it out atm. Takes quite some time so I will get back to you later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
I caught 6lb chub a 3lb Perch a 15lb carp and a 25lb pike and also one of my friends caught an 8lb chub !!! from my local river I could almost jump across very underrated locations
Here is the USA I caught a 17 inch (43 cm) smallmouth bass from a small stream. Granted, it was a bit larger than the stream you are describing but it was still quite small. Unfortunately, I am bad at describing things, so if you want to look it up it was the Pigeon River in Lagrange County, Indiana
Thanks fellas, excellent as always. I invested in a TF Gear Matt Hayes allrounder rod a few years back for my local small rivers, can adjust from 13ft down to 11ft length by removing a small piece at the butt end and it has separate top sections for float fishing and quivertip. Used to have to carry 3 rods to cover them, do it all on the one now (Apart from one of the venues that has Big Barbel which I have my faithful Harefield Tackle hand built special for)
My son and I are planning a fishing trip on our local river at the weekend and this video has given me some great ideas. I love watching your videos: they are superb. All the best and thank you for your great work.
Very useful. Due to Lockdown I am left with only the Rivers Wampool, Wiza and Waver to fish.I get to relive my childhood. This is useful advice, thanks.
I love how u make high quality videos on tutorials, same as on main channel, love your passion! Come to Lithuania some day, to try to catch your biggest tench ( our national fish ) :)
Honestly so weird as today at work I was thinking that I’d love you to do a video on small rivers as plenty In Norfolk where I am ! How strange. Thank you for your videos. I love them all and it’s bought me back to fishing ! Keep it up !
Ever tried a big rucksack when travelling along rivers? I like this a lot, i even get a small cooling-box into it for drinks and, if you plan to eat fish, to put fish into it. You can put rods and even a net in the side straps which is perfect because you can get it out with one hand when you catched a fish.
I have to thank you for what you do and what you share. I also fish with a feeder, not for a very long time, but I always discover new things, so well presented by you! thanks ! 👍
What works great is just make a dough from only flower... it sticks good and you can ad coloring or even taste. You can put it on the hook like a magget
As the river season has finished, I've moved on to the canal. A guide to canal fishing would be great. Would also appreciate a guide to jigging if you find the time!

I love fishing for chub and pike in small river near me i fish there a lot in summer bicos peapole don't fish there so there are always big chub and pikes. And sometimes when im with frends there we fry a fish or two and eat it.
This was really helpful as I'm supposedly visiting a small river for chub or just anything I can get really. Keep up these amazing step by step tutorials!
@@carpadventures8052 Big Up on the cheespaste, made some for the first time a couple of weeks back, used the next morning and had a decent chub out within an hour, well pleased.
The sad thing is there is no coarse fish in Scottish streams only trout but that is still alright , but it still would be good if there was like barbel chub and ect in Scottish rivers
That's a shame you don't have barbel and chub up in Scotland, at least you have some beautiful scenery up there! I love visiting Scotland! Best of luck with your fishing!
I try to fish the river Ouzel in Milton Keynes, it’s an awful river deep and shallow, fast and slow but the predominant feature is the weed, it’s atrocious. In a length of say 1 mike you are lucky to find a spot to fish. I have caught some nice (small ) fish. Have you any tips for fishing this type of river.
So I notice u don't talk alot about trout fishing these small rivers, I have a small medium to fast flowing river by me stocked with trout but I'm struggling to catch and locate them, any tips for this if possible
Hello Carl and Alex, big fan! I have a question, maybe you can provide some insight, having more experience. I have a small stream near where I live, which starts out of natural springs in the forest and runs down about 20km, ending in a small river. It's not really fished a lot, since people haven't got good bites and it is also a bit hard to access. I've tried about a 4km stretch of the stream several times, but never even had a bite. Is there a chance that no fish live in the stream at all, since it doesn't have a lake that it's coming from? Would the place where the stream and the river meet up be a good spot? It's quite fast flowing down there, and wide. Known fish in the river are perch, roach, pike, burbot, bream and zander, all regular river fish, but none of those have been reported in the stream. Would they have a reason to swim up the smaller stream rather than stay in the river? Sorry for the long text, and thank you for your videos! From Estonia
