A Tempest AND a Paratrooper at the same fair? Sign me up! I'm from Kalamazoo and this ride was staple at the fair during the 70s and 80s. What a blast!
Coney Island in Cincinnati had one of these when I was growing up (mid 2000s) and it was removed in 2019 along with the other rides. The tempest was by far the most intense ride in the park and one of the only rides I was scared of as a kid... I didn't ride it until I was a teenager and even then I remember it being a doozie. Definitely get you dizzy enough to lose your lunch if you'd just eaten a funnel cake or hot dogs from the nearby food counter!
I used to work the carnival circuit in the summer months for Hall Family Rides in New York State in the late 70s early 80s and they had a Tempest. Pretty cool seeing this video.
I remember these at carnivals in my youth back in the late 60s and into the 70s and 80s... Haven't really seen many since then, although I did see a really broken down and rusted out one in a scrapyard somewhere about 20 years ago...

My favorite ride ever when I was a kid in the 70s and 80s!!! I haven't seen it at any fairs in my area in very long time though. I'm from MI too.
Saline fair in saline has it and the south gate heritage days has it, not sure of any others
