    The Sizzler fair ride is manufactured by Wisdom Rides. It is similar to the Scrambler ride made by The Eli Bridge Company or the Merry Mixer manufactured by Garbrick. They are also called Twist or Twister in the UK
    I'm fascinated by the way carnival rides are engineered to fold up and stow away for storage and travel and I seem to learn a new trick with each ride.
    Thanks to Jay and the crew from Majestic Midways for giving me the opportunity to document the setup of this classic carnival ride.

      Europeans have a modern copy called the Twizzler. Bit longer arms and an awesome lighting package. The showmen who individually own the rides in Europe do a LOT to add to the theming and lighting of their units. Some of them carry an extra trailer worth of stuff on top of the trailers for ride system itself.

    Love this little series. Just to mention, it seems like most of these units (usually named 'Twister') have a base in the UK. As in, they'd be sat flat on the ground grasscutter but would still have a metal platform under the entire ride. Might need to do some personal digging to see where the extras are stored but alas. So cool to see.

    The way the trailer frame is lowered to the ground reminds me of a Huss Breakdance 3 I used to setup and take down in Germany frequently almost 20 years ago. The trailer was not a semitrailer like this, but also had a front axle. There were four hydraulic jacks built into the trailer that took the weight off the wheels, then you were able to remove both the front and rear axle assemblies and lower the remainder of the frame on the ground (though we would usually put wooden blocks between the frame and the ground, which also ensured it being level.
    Like most fair rides designed before the 2000s, it was not contained on one trailer, but there was a second trailer carrying half the tubs, all decking, fences, ticket/operator booth and so forth. Since half the tubs needed to be removed and loaded onto the other trailer, you had to have a crane to set it up, but the small folding "loading crane" we had on the truck was sufficient for that work.
    I haven't setup a ride in many years, but I still find it fascinating to watch how they unfold...

    • @PeteRondeau
      @PeteRondeau  Год назад +2

      In the video I said "all the way to the ground" but they actually did have wooden blocks under the rear when they lowered it. It just happened to be on really level ground there and didn't need any additional cribbing to level it so it was just a single block under each corner.

    • @Colaholiker
      @Colaholiker Год назад

      @@PeteRondeau I guess the grass also covered what little wood there was. 😅
      We usually set up on paved or gravel surfaces, only recall having to take the ride down after it sat on grass for two weekends with heavy rain between the first weekend. We literally had to dig out some of the blocks.

      As long as they continue to allow me to record, I'll keep making videos. There are limitations to how many of these types of videos I can make. Generally these are set up during the week as they run on weekends. To record, it means I have to take time off work and travel, sometimes several hours, to get to them. So, the content where I'm in the workshop will always be the biggest part of the channel, but there are a ton of other rides I would like to document the set up of. Thanks for watching!

    In Brazil we have very few units of this equipment, I believe that not even half is mounted on the ground, like the one in the video. All were modified to be mounted on top of the trailer itself, without any boards, literally on top. It has worked, in addition to making assembly faster.

    • @ocharlesgrange
      @ocharlesgrange Год назад

      Here in Brazil they say that this equipment has had many accidents, but I've never heard of it, and that's why there are few. The factories they made were the best, all with blueprints, manuals, etc. This toy in large itinerant parks doesn't exist anymore, totally replaced by Crazy Dance (or Break Dance) and by Sking that doesn't have support arms under the chairs, only on the top parts. Even so, the Dambroz Scrambler, at least what I saw, is well reinforced, I believe it supports and holds up much better than the Skining.

    Hi your videos are great! I have never commented on a video before. I have watched all your videos and I too have a few carnival rides I am restoring. In fact I just went to Maine last week to pick up an antique airplane ride. I have always been fascinated by carnival rides Garbrick in particular (the Garbrick's are actually friends of mine) I must be very close to where you are located I'm in Highspire (just outside of Harrisburg) I would very much like to connect with you if possible. Thanks!

    Curious on how much these rides cost and how much maintenance they actually get. Also, how much does it cost to transport and set up? One of my favorite carnival rides is probably the easiest to set up, the hammerhead ride. I remember my state fair had one made out of a tractor.

      if you check a website like usedrides.com you can get a pretty good idea what they go for. A ride like the sizzler would sell for 50k to 75k depending on its age and condition.
