The animatronic with the ghost face mask automatically makes this the best water coaster in existence

The set pieces are incredible in the station, and up to the 1st lift hill. But after the 1st drop I feel like theres so much dead time just floating to the next lift through the lagoon. Feels a bit like a missed opportunity to take a great ride to phenomenal, if it just had a dark ride section or some extra storytelling elements. Still... this looks incredible as is
I'm totally with you here, the bits floating around in the lagoon really seemed like a waste. There needs to be some kind of story here.

I was just thinking the same thing! That time floating in the lagoon, why not have a huge sea creature animatronic rise up out of the water? Or Poseidon himself? And have a ship floating nearby at the same time? I dunno. Its a cool attraction, but there's potential for it to be top tier thats being wasted.

The fact that this is on a coaster track is kinda cool!!
It’s a lovely ride: nice, long journey and the water scenes are visually stunning as is the loading structure. But it feels so disjointed like you’re riding two separate rides-it needs to at least tell a complete story instead of “here’s some cool ruins in the Aegean Sea. Now it’s a roller coaster. Now it’s back into the sea”…

Agreed. It's a very confusing ride. They put together half a theme and had some track left!
Well the que line has bits of the story from the greeks which wanted to take over Troja and cross the sea with Odysseus as theyre leader and Poseidon wants to challange them with stormy weathers and high waves.
Thats basicly the lore from the attraction.
And the story plays in the que line with screens and speacking statues in different rooms.
The water roller coaster looks very epic.
you know for a second at the beginning i thought this was epcot with the monorail going past spaceship earth, than my brain decided to turn itself back on.

Pretty cool looking ride overall. The set at the beginning was very well put together. I just think this ride has so much potential that went to waste. The lagoon section where you're just drifting along had a TON of space for some cool animatronics and interesting set pieces to develop more of a story. Oh well. If I had to rate it, I'd say 6/10.

Actually, the manufacturer of Journey to Atlantis (Mack Rides GmbH) is owned by Roland Mack who is also the co-founder of this Theme Park Resort

In the waiting line there is a medusa cave witch I think was a really good add to this amazing ride! I went on this when I was 6 And I was screaming my head off! The full ride is about 2:5
This is a really great ride and I highly recommend it for the more thrill seeking riders!

Interesting ride. The track itself is pretty great, but there’s a huge lack of story? Idk if there was supposed to be a narrative or not, but it’s strange that there’s some potential here that was not utilized. Either way, looks pretty cool.

The ride is loosely based on Homer’s _Odyssey._
This ride is fun but the entire first half is painful. I ended up with bruised shins because of how terribly this ride slams and rattles. The second drop however is VERY GOOD. Great airtime and fairly soaking. Also if you are lucky then there will be park employees dressed in Greek outfits with buckets and will splash you.
This ride would be great on a hot summer day.

I tried hard to love this because I love the concept but at this point in my life Universal and Disney has set a standard that everyone else just disappoints.

That looks AMAZING! American parks would never spend that kind of money on decor. In fact, when I interviewed at Six Flags in Gurnee, IL there were not two walls in a single room that were painted the same color. I was there when it opened in 1976 and it was so beautifully painted & landscaped! It is sad to see how far it has fallen. Obviously, very bad management!

The scenery is beautiful.....the rest is a yawner. I'm spoiled I guess, I grew up a few minutes from 6-Flags Magic Mountain and an hour from Disneyland. (So-Cal)

Greece Let’s Visit
This ride could have potential but the theming just stopped after the first minute of the ride, almost like the budget got axed. Trying to be three different types of rides, it excels at none as it is not a good themed ride, not a good roller coaster and not a good flume ride. I do however appreciate the efforts of this channel to provide a virtual experience of this ride.
While the theming is outstanding, the ride itself is kinda lacking.
I don't understand why European parks just don't have the kind of total immersion that Disney excels in - this just feels like a roller coaster/combined flume boat ride through an abandoned Greek mythology movie set. The closest any European park comes to Disney standards is probably Efteling and even with that park, there's still a feel that the rides aren't exactly 100% complete - that there are still some missing elements ...
That‘s true but I don‘t see how that‘s supposed to be a problem. Besides the obvious difference in financial resources (Europa Park is a family business after all) the target demographic of most European Parks is very different. Rather than focusing on fully immersive story-telling and mostly dark rides they tend to have a much broader line-up, targeting a young adult audience and thrill-seekers as well as families. Europa Park has a hyper coaster, not exactly what you’d find at Disney. That just makes a lot more sense than adopting the Disney-model, especially given that a Disney-Park is just a four hour train ride away. I don‘t think it‘s that different to the US theme park landscape either. Or are there any parks outside of Disney or Universal that offer Disney-quality immersion?
@@ft4709 I would prefer that there is no attempt at theming at all and just have the rides themselves as they are, simple and clean - in that case. Any attempt at some sort of theme just looks out of place and ridiculous, like a last-minute attempt at some sort of "decoration" but failing to deliver. As regards "target demographic" - I'm sure the Disney execs would have exactly the same type of target in mind, and even broader as well, and the variety of rides offered at Disney parks shows this very well. And not every Disney ride is a "dark ride" - as shown by rides such as Big Thunder Mountain or the other open-air rides and attractions that are still fully immersive. It seems from your reply that you've not heard of Efteling in the Netherlands? It also began as a family business and for the most part still is, if I'm not mistaken - and this Park does attempt as much as possible to create fully immersive experiences for visitors - close to what Disney or Universal are offering. Parks in Asia like Japan, Korea and China as well are also following the Disney and/or Universal model and offering thrill rides that are also fully themed and immersive - which makes the experience extra enjoyable.
Have you seen POVs of Taron in Phantasialand in Germany or the new fully immersive Rookburgh area in Phantasialand? I personally believe both those attractions far surpass anything Disney has to offer at its parks in terms of offering a fully immersive ride experience. Not only do you have two fantastically themed areas, which are themed in a 360 degree manner so that you will be engulfed by the story no matter where you look, but you've also got two attractions that are perfectly integrated into the respective areas. Sure, Disney has galaxys edge, but the main attraction itself, the dark ride, is still separate from the themed area. Having looked into both Efteling and Phantasialand in depth, I would easily say that Phantasialands theming is also way more immersive than anything efteling has to offer. In fact, even when comparing efteling to some of the newer attractions featured in this park, like the brilliant dark ride Piraten in Batavia, I would say that they are at least on par.
@@ParkInsider it's still like a ride built inside a movie set, although a very nice one. Have you looked at Disney's Big Thunder Mountain (all versions) or HK Disneyland's Grizzly Gulch Mine Train rides? Even the roller coaster tracks and surrounds are completely styled so that they look like part of the scenery, and not exposed like these rides. The only Disney roller coaster themed ride with exposed tracks is an Indiana Jones roller coaster ride. Phantasialand's Taron and Universal's Hagrid Motorcycle coasters are meant to give the sensation of "flying" through scenery so these can be considered exceptions. Shanghai Disneyland's (and soon Disney World Florida) TRON motorcycle ride is completely themed as well so that the roller coaster track blends in with the entire design concept. Efteling's styling is "old world" overall and can be considered charming and maybe that's their selling point when compared to other parks in Europe including Disneyland Paris. However, Efteling rides like Piraten or Fata Morgana still feel like something's missing when compared to Disney's Pirates Of The Caribbean - especially the Shanghai Disneyland version which is almost 360 degrees immersive - and the animatronics at both Efteling rides, have movements that are too stiff and robotic when compared to Disney's. Efteling's most expensive ride, Symbolica, is very beautiful and compares favourably with Disney as a family ride. Well, budgets are one thing, but family-owned parks and parks owned by ride manufacturers to show off their products, can always find sponsorship and good financing - just like what the Disney company has always done - and bring their attractions up to date and competitive enough. Or maybe they're just satisfied with what they've got, as long as they meet their revenue income. After all, it's still a business.
Universal parks also do total immersion.
