The internal lock is older than I am, by one year, and I'm already old enough to have become one of those anti-lock purists lol. I've got one IL 617 I love that my dad bought me when I was 16, but I keep thinking of selling my IL 686 that I have now and buying this new L frame Mountain Gun. It's just so so cool!! Love the grips too!
S&W 686 was my first firearm purchase for home/studio apartment defence 25+ years ago. My son, now 18, likes it above everything else in the safe. It will be his son's one day. "Teach your children well".
As a very long time S&W fan and double action revolver nut, this absolutely turns my cylinder!!! My hat is off to S&W and Jason/Lipsey’s! I definitely WILL be getting BOTH!
I am so happy to see the wood grips and gold bead front sight. These are two big selling points for me, even more so than the lock. Now about that run of blued Mountain Guns in 41 Rem Mag an 45 Colt.....
I like to see them coming back especially without the stupid hillary hole on the side. Now it would be great if S&W could talk to some folks about making speed loaders for pistols like the 686+. Safariland has some nice speed loaders but no plans to make 7 shot speed loaders for the 686+. We really need things like this and it will likely take S&W putting a request in as no one is listening to a shooter. A second cylinder for 9mm would also be great with the 686+.
S&W is coming back on the path of the good and righteousness! 😄 There once was also a K frame 22lr 10 shot Mountain Gun. This was also cool but I think only very few were made.
Oh my God these revolvers are so damn cool man in my opinion revolvers are the very best pistols 🔫 you can buy and S&W is my all time favorite Gun Brand as well thank you S&W for making the best Guns in the world 🌎 God bless you always and Shalom 😇 🙏🏻 🎉🎉🎉
Gotta give credit to Colt, this is a direct response to the Grizzly and Kodiak being re-released and its great to see 2 great companies competing to build the best they can.
Excellent! Now, a mountain gun in .45 Colt (+P rated) with a 5" barrel. You can send the first one to my LGS with my name on it! While we are at it, bring back the 5" model 27. You can call it the Skeeter Skelton Special.
I did a few experiments with pliable materials, and the only grip shape that fits the clenched hand is the round butt grip. However, the frames allow for a round butt grip so that's not too annoying, but do the experiment yourselves with a wet soap bar or something of that nature, and you'll see the shape is not that of a square-butt revolver. I would love to own any of the heavy-barrel 4-inch, 7-shot revolvers though.
Both Revolvers are on my list now... if I can get them in California. Thank goodness S&W is finally dropping the Hillary Holle, hopefully on all revolvers.
SO GLAD to finally see the lock gone and just as important a ball detent crane lock up(all revolvers should have had these added some time back instead of the ejector lock up). I love the 7 shot too but on this one I would have preferred a 3.5" barrel(like the old model 27) semi bull(like the old model 19) and for a rugged, utility harsh, conditions carry type I would also have preferred a gutter rear sight with a MUCH lower traditional half moon front - that front sight just looks WAY too tall, target like and "snaggy" to me. One more thing - GET THESE AND ALL THE NEW REVOLVERS ON THE CA LIST!
Nice sights and no lock make nice features. The tapered barrel looks classy but is not as desirable in practical terms, the extra weight up front helps control magnum recoil. Anyway, keep eliminating that silly lock on the revolver line.
The only problem with the beratta M9 in my opinion is because of how accurate it is but isn't the easiest to shoot accurately without training. It is a gun that will hurt your feelings and show you that you have flaws in your shooting grip.
Just like the Colt Python, the Mountain gun should have never been discontinued. Also, just like the Python, everyone is glad these guns are back - and with no trigger lock. FINALLY!! Thank you, S&W.
@@TedJ71 Agreed 100%. Most of the folks saying the new ones are inferior have no actual experience with them and/or are unaware of the internal improvements that have been made.
@@bsmithhammer you would be correct. S&W seems to be in a bit of a rough time now for QC, but other than that, the manufacturing improvements at S&W have only continued to make a stronger and stronger revolver as time goes on. They fixed the forcing cone flat that made the original K frame Magnums have their legendary issues with hot Magnums! And now this, a triple lock L frame??? Nobody even expected that!
@ I was actually responding to the comment about new Pythons. I'd say the QC with new S&W revolvers can still be hit/miss, but mostly decent. But in general, manufacturing and precision are leaps and bounds above what they were 30-40 years ago. People really want to believe that hand-fitting was superior, but that wasn't always the case. In fact, hand-fitting was often necessary because of a lack of precision manufacturing.
@@johnnyk5 how did I miss that. Oops. I wonder if there’s really room for 6 10mm though, or would they have to do 5 like the Model 69 .44 Magnum? I would hope 6 is possible, since they can squeeze 7 .357s in. You are right about the L frame though, I would prefer an L frame to the 610. L frames fit me better, and probably most others too.
@ Physically, there is space for six. The 646 in 40 S&W is an L-Frame that held six rounds and it's the same diameter as 10mm. If anything, it would be a strength issue that would require a 10mm L-Frame hold five.
@@johnnyk5 Wow. I had no idea there was a 646! I want the 10mm L frame as bad as you do now. And it would be so cool to have 6, but like you said, could be cylinder wall thickness issues.
Don't feel too bad. As long as they still work. I bought an SBAL-PL from Steiner right before they discontinued it...then it broke. They don't even support it anymore since they no longer stock the parts. They would have to specially fabricate a new weird screw thing and it would cost almost as much as I paid for the light 🙂
Dear Smith & Wesson, I have your next product line: Pro Carry Series K, L & N frame. Round butt. No internal lock. Gutter rear sight. Interchangeable front sight. Available in matte black or stainless. 2.5” or 3” barrels for each frame, except the N gets a 3.5”. Call them the 19, 586 & 27 Pro Carry. Steel frames, 1/2 under lug. No porting. Hogue boot grips. $1099 MSRP. I won’t even take a royalty just call them the “Bob specials”. You’ll sell every single one you make.
Can you bring back the M1917 Revolver chambered in .45 ACP with a 4 inch barrel posessing a brass or gold bead front sight, with the "D" ring on the butt (square butt) handle, and make it to accept both 3 round and 6 round moon clips? Lastly, can you make it with a "blued" finish, NO LOCK, and put some smooth Walnut grips on it? Thanks.

Glad to see them doing away with the lock, but I bet the value of my current smith and Wesson's is about to go down. I wish I could afford to trade in my current 686 for this one. Economy and medical bill are killing me.
I just paid $1200 bucks with tax for a 5 inch 626 it has some unfixable cosmetic forging issues. I try to ignore them, but it still bugs. It might be the polishing guy buffing to hard
I think the poor finish is a qc requirement or spec now. My 66 had the kerf from cutting the frame still deeply visible. Tried to get it corrected and S&w said it was within spec.

Either remove them or make it optional kinda like manual safeties on semi autos.

I just got a 629 and 686 Plus last year, my first revolvers...and now you do this. Damn.
Just last month I bought a 686 performance center 5 inch. Kind of wish I waited. Oh well guess I am getting another one.

Man…those Bear Hugs look awesome. Do glad Tyler Gunworks obtained the rights and brought to these MGs.

No Internal Lock should be the standard for all S&W revolvers, including current models. I hope you do that.

When will they be shipping?
Will these be available in Ca?!?
This is awesome, problem is I was hoping to buy more rifles this year, and Smith seems bound and determined to tempt me into more revolvers
Smooth grips look great, but holding on with recoil of 44mag?
Does the Mountain Gun 629 come with the X-frame style triple lock bearing lock up and the forcing cone reinforcement of the model 69?
