Emilia Perez is deeply offensive to Latino culture. The narrative on drug cartels touches upon immense pain and suffering in countries like México and Colombia, yet the movie trivializes this deeply sensitive issue. The attempt to "redeem" cartel figures reflects an uninformed and detached perspective, disregarding the real violence that has devastated countless lives. Jacques Audiard’s approach is both insensitive and an appropriation of Latino culture. It is still shocking that he was nominated for a Golden Globe, despite being a French director with no lived experience of the Latino world. It is no coincidence that the decision to release the movie in México on January 25th feels especially tone-deaf. This calculated move seems designed to gain visibility while disregarding the emotional impact such a film may have on those directly affected by the violence it references. This level of cultural insensitivity and exploitation must be called out and addressed.
You do realize that the movie doesn’t redeem the character right? Maybe if you would have followed the movie you wouldn’t be this offended about it. (SPOIELR) At the end the character goes back to the same circle of violence.

This shows why Derbez backtracked his words against Emilia Perez and Selena and Guillermo keeps thriving on USA film business... POLITICS!... You should praise when you like your peerss work and keep the negative comments to yourself when you dont. This is an unwritten rule and Guillermos knows it well. Derbez WILL be unfortunately blacklisted.
5:00 Audiard never mentions his "girlfriend". He just says "la COVID" which is the classic French (and so, inescapably gendered) way to talk about the COVID epidemic.
8:18 Audiard "Day of the Dead they get fucking wrecked" but it's automatically translated to "and soccer" ("il se foutent" vs. "foot"). Who the fuck translated this? An amateur?
13:44 "Opera is the DNA of Emilia Perez" (actual translation) vs. "The DNA of opera is stylization" (translation printed on screen). You guys are not even trying FFS.
Wow, pretty disappointed at Guillermo, this movie is shameless, insensitive, so over the top, and most importantly, very mediocre at best.
Wow, del Toro is your quintessential techie: he zeros in on the technicalities of movie and music production and misses the heart and soul of the movie, the storyline the movie, the life stories of the female protagonists!
give that translator the award, what the hell was that!
that’s what I watched the whole interview, I’d love to watch the interpretation segments that were cut off
