"Every boy is a real boy, every kid is a real kid. Parents have a hard time becoming a real parent." Somehow this just brought the tears back, this movie is so beautiful 🥲
@@Infoulnessyeshallknowthem I’ve been a VFX artist for 15 years, you just literally described every single director/studio I’ve worked for. I wouldn’t expect any different from such an amazing artist director, with all due respect maybe you are in the wrong industry.
What a wonderful person. My father died about a month ago to Leukemia; I couldn't bring myself to play God of War (story of a son trying to save his father, essentially) because I felt like it would be too much. Watched Pinocchio instead and was absolutely destroyed. Don't think I've ever cried so hard. With that said it made dealing with his death so much easier- I felt everything he says here about death being inevitable and "beautiful" and accepting that life continues and how we live on in story. Perhaps one of the most genuine creators out there.
I lost my mother two months ago and playing god of war is what helped me through this as the game is about a mother who's death paves the way for her family to survive.
I've had the pleasure of meeting Guillermo several times and not only is he a very articulate man, he is quite arguably the kindest and friendliest individual in all of Hollywood. He deserves all the success he's achieving. Felicidades, Guillermo.
Blind, unquestioning obedience to “authority” is NOT a virtue, no matter how much that authority tries to pound this myth into our heads. Something we all need to keep in mind. Bravo Guillermo!
Love, love , love this interview. I don't know if it's because I'm Mexican but, I really understand the way he describes his way of thinking, that I agree with him 100%. The older we get, life and death's perceptions change and at the same time, remained the same. The fear about death (thank God) diminishes and/or disappears. I'll be watching Cronos and his version of the new Pinocchio movie . It's kind of weird that just before I started watching this video, I noticed a red bag, next to my bed, given to me by "Specialty Auto Works" store (now closed) named Chronos. Hummm. Great video. Congratulations to the both of you.
He is so genuine. This was a great interview. I wish they circled back around to the Pinocchio-Frankenstein connection - would have been great to listen to :)
Yeah, that frase opened my mind in a second! That's why we need this man to give us some clues to grow up and see the life like and a circle where everything is connected
Every single interview with Guillermo del Toro -my fellow Mexican- is an absolute beauty, just poetry. I feel very proud to say this man truly represents the Mexican spirit.
I can hear 3 hours of Guillermo just talking, he is soo genuine, and his understanding of Religion, death and humanity is soo amazing to hear, I wish someday meet him and James Cameron, these 2 are heroes to me.
Guillermo lives in the spiritual realm, he translates it into the material world in movies. He explains it so well I think even the skeptical can understand.
Disobedience can be a virtue in many cases but although it may express a great cause it can also cause self destruction because others cannot accept it especially those with power
What a wonderful man, I love the perspective on parenting and Pinocchio...and pretty much everything else he said was inspiring and thought provoking. Tom as ever, I love the way you interview folks; warm and genuine...not like the plastic style hollywood host "hey everyone look at me! I m funny!" style that some other people adopt. Each to their own of course, but ya...really enjoyed this, thank you!
This movie (and del Toro) is amazing, so touching. Pinocchio reminds me so much of my son...he has a free, curious spirit and could easily be characterized as naughty or disobedient. But he is one of the most loving, empathetic children I've ever met and his inclination to question things or stray off course doesn't seem to come from a place of rebelling for no reason, but out of sheer curiosity and a lust for life. I cried throughout the movie because it felt so close to my heart 🤍🤍

One scene from his Pan's Labyrinth movie that I hear people say "Why didn't Ofelia listen to the Faun? She's so dumb"(when she eats fron thr Pale Man's table), well, the whole movie is about disobedience and when the characters disobey, and why that might be. That scene has always been with me

disney and older animated films were really intense for me as a kid in the 80's in ways that modern offerings just aren't. They were pulling less punches, trying to show things and tells stories that just don't get shown nowadays. to quote Peter Pan "Dying would be the greatest adventure" can you imagine that in a kid's movie now ??
Yes. He is right about early Disney movies and how darkness existed within them. I’m 48 and I still have trouble watching the original Pinocchio and Dumbo too!
GDT is eloquent as always here and his ideas on his Pinocchio are really quite strong. I wish they were as strongly conveyed in the film as it is here through Del Toro talking about it. I just think as time has gone one, he's lost a bit of his edge and is a bit clumsier when it comes to making his films. I find myself liking sequences and ideas in his later work more than the actual show or film itself. I think all his films post-Pan's Labyrinth suffer from a host of issues from dialogue, pacing, narrative, and tone that don't seem to be improving or correcting itself. Despite his eye for design being as strong as ever, his current work certainly lack a finesse and polish I think his earlier stuff had (certainly his first three films).
