I'm glad that the success of Purple Rain blew EVERYTHING out of the water at the time because I ALWAYS thought that 1999 double album should have been his international success. The 1999 double album was his breakthrough album with so much hard work, mechanics, and power put behind by just Prince himself. Purple Rain is the GREATEST Rock N Roll film of ALL TIMES. They have ran it on public television for nearly 40 YEARS NOW and it's registered under the US National film Registry along with the album in the library of Congress which is NOT to be considered cheesy.

So, Dr. Fink was and still is my fav band member. Why? My friends and I had planned to be a part of the annual "air band" contest at my H.S. in '85. I was the "Dr." We watched "Purple Rain" a 100 times, well maybe 50. Anyway, we had costumes made, I painted a "Prince" sign for the front of my faux keyboard...we did it all. I even got a perm to match Drs. hair style. Yep and then realized I hadn't taken my senior pic yet, so yep, you guessed it, my perm is my senior pic. My hair was normally a spiky "Billy Idol" look, but I digress. Anyway, the contest was cancelled the week of and we were ALL disappointed.....that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
Remember when Purple Rain came out. Saw it with band mates (I was in a band at the time). Was blown away, maybe even moreso since we weren't expecting much from it. But once he hit that breakdown in Let's Go Crazy, I thought, this might be good.
Obviously Dr Fink never heard Larry Graham where Prince got the For You vocals from Graham always did acapella vocals like that and Prince was a student of LG

Although 1999 album is my biggest love, I think Purple&Rain and Sign o the times are two of the best and most influentiall albums ever in music history

I think Morris Day's character in the movie gets a pass because he was portrayed as an insecure person who put on a huge front to hide his fear of not being accepted for himself. His hurtful taunts and barbs toward Prince was due to latent jealousy and immaturity. I think most characters in the movie would probably roll their eyes after Morris walked away, knowing that he was a child for the most part.

Never knew that. I'll have to study him and Sly more carefully.
EVERYBODY listened to Sly and everything his band did, I promise you.
Larry wasn’t involved with Prince in 1978
