- After 456 days in development and 1,065 commits to the repo, it's finally here: our largest update ever, Better than Adventure! 1.7.7.0, containing literally dozens of new features, many new and updated blocks and items, improved world generation, and more. We hope you enjoy playing this new update as much as we've enjoyed working on it.
Special thanks to LukeIsStuff, Bestsoft, Nebula, PedroThePanda and Kheprep from the discord for taking part!
== How to install ==
With this version we're shipping v2.0 of the MultiMC/Prism Launcher update utility, which is our strongly recommended way of installing and playing BTA.
If you haven't used this utility before, all you need to do is drag and drop the link below onto your MultiMC/Prism Launcher window, add the instance, and run it; it will automatically download, install and configure BTA 1.7.7.0 into an instance called "Better than Adventure! (Managed)". Every time a new version of BTA is released, all you need to do is run the updater instance and it will automatically upgrade your managed instance to the latest version.
If you've used the previous version of this utility before (called BTA.MultiMC.Updater in the launcher) you can safely delete that instance, replace it with this new version, and run it. Your old "Better than Adventure! (Managed)" instance will be instantly upgraded to 1.7.7.0.

== About the mod ==
Better than Adventure, or 'BTA' is an extensive mod for Minecraft beta 1.7.3, bringing out regular updates attempting to create a more "finalized" version of beta Minecraft while also maintaining the look and feel of the game pre-adventure update.

I feel like I'm on a parallel reality where Minecraft stayed being indie! I didn't know anything about this and it just feels surreal to watch it... the developer art feel to it in the textures and the very minecrafty NON-minecrafty objects (if that makes sense) are so well done. It's wild to see the style have things added on to it like this.
I really wanna get together with others who didn’t know about this and start playing! Do you happen to have discord?
@@mrakisotnelar.8009 That sounds cool! It's @jopiluis
Hello Jopi.
@@jopiluis3382 thanks!
Bro how did you have the same thought as I did when watching this video, this video felt like an alternate universe
Seeing the words "Minecraft Beta 1.7.3." Makes me feel so OLD. It's been 12 years... It's amazing to see how far the game has come.
already?
12... years? Gosh darn I feel old, and I'm only 19...
WHAT 12 years?
I'm a little out of the loop here. Why is the mod made for 1.7.3? Is there something special with that version? Why not like 1.7.10, i feel like that's a really popular version when it comes to modding.
@@CrusageIt's _BETA_ 1.7, not regular 1.7. As in, this is for the Beta version of Minecraft, not the release version, and Beta 1.7.3 is the last version of Minecraft Beta (to my knowledge) and so is quite popular for really old school modders.
For any good reason this beta Minecraft mod feels more Minecraftish than the current Minecraft as a whole.
Modern Minecraft is way different from BTA. Like it or not, I think that we should realise that neither is more "Minecrafty" than the other.
@@pman56789 Minecraft was bought out, had its entire original development team quit, and get turned into a soulless cash cow. "Modern Minecraft" is not what Minecraft is supposed to be.
@@TTancevatplease, stop right here. Many original devs still work on Minecraft and monetization model had no change at all (with the exception of realms and bedrock edition). Saying "Minecraft has been turned into a soulless cash cow" is a blatant lie.
@@TTancevat That's completely untrue. Many of the original developers still work on the game to this day. The developers put there full heart and soul into this game, and I think calling it a "soulless cash cow" is disrespectful, especially considering that Minecraft was already a massive brand before the buyout and the updates aren't too different content wise. I don't like Microsoft as a corporation, and I don't support every decision Mojang has made, but I draw the line at calling Mojang "soulless". You need to separate Mojang and Microsoft mate.
There is no good definition of "Minecraft". There are different versions of it: beta, infdev, current, pre 1.9, pre 1.18, 1.12, freacken bedrock. All of these have different vibes, pros and cons. Nether update was great, it has improved the gameplay viraity, added new atmospheric biomes, tho definitely lost that lonely vibes and even bit of horror.
Each update we not only loose, but gain more
For some reason, seeing fireflies was really funny to me. It sounds like a middle finger to Mojang.
Yeah that definitely was lol
Wasn't the only one either, but it's actually more powerful to say it was a gift to the players/community, something the Microsoft leadership doesn't understand.
Flags instead of banners, autocollection that's just a basket and one block, I remember glass trapdoors being a widespread desire due to it having the same creative volume as other blocks with the power of a glass block, there are so many grievances of the future that make the past seem forlorn that I am happy to see someone not just get it but be able to do it too!
you would not believe your eyes if 10 millio
All of golden age Minecraft is a middle finger to mojang
@@NotAHueman Not just the golden age
What I call "resurrection age" (1.12-1.16) was also so much better, that even it could be seen as middle finger to what Mojang has now become. Even 1.15 bee update wasn't hated, even though it added not more that 1.20, but it wasn't hated because of Mojang's still good reputation, and because they made up for it in 1.16
The version I started playing was 1.12 Pocket Edition beta. It's like a snapshot for 1.13
3:30 All the scenes do this, but this scene specifically tells me this is more than just a Minecraft mod. This feels like a different future and I am here for it. Looks awesome :o
True
Its him!!
Kind of an obscure reference but this mod reminds me of the Alpha Ver ARG versions.
@@soogus55Maybe, but this is meant to be an actually playable mod while Lilypad is just an ARG.
@@pman56789 yeah, it just reminded me of it. Kind of like what Minecraft could've been, that kind of concept. The arg versions are actually playable btw

Damn near same story
This mod is just astonishing. I really don't like playing with mods in survival and only played on 1.12.2 with them, but this mod just brings me back to 2014 of what I thought minecraft was going to be. Some addings and changes are a bit too messy like new mob variations (in my opinion), but I beg you, keep developing this mod, it is just unbelievably accurate to pre-1.8 Minecraft and hits the spot too much
I checked and mob variations can be disabled in settings
2014 was time of 1.7, and not beta 1.7
This is great I don't think about any redstone and going end just explore overworld and build any building in every journey like old days
it's very simple for sure
@@Myticalcattnip I mean... No one really forces to think about redstone and the end, idk why you would put it here.
Loved the MP testing phase of this. Such. A fun experience. Glad to see it appeared here.

Fireflies poisoning frogs ain’t stopping these guys. Respect
Them being poisonous to frogs isn't really an issue when you don't have frogs in the game anymore
I do think frogs could be added considering fire flies are already in the game and possibly a few types of Lily pads just to tie it all together I think it would nice.
As someone who's played Minecraft since 1.2 but still loves the older versions I never got to play as they released, this mod is amazing. I've always felt that those versions were lacking in features compared to modern Minecraft. It's like experiencing an alternate development branch for my favorite game, and it's amazing.
I started playing Minecraft around Beta 1.8, so I had never experienced Minecraft without sprinting and hunger, and tbh Beta 1.7.3 is good for ppl who have the nostalgia, but not in my case, this is not the sprint and the hunger I miss the most, personally I feel it makes the game more dificult and dangerous, so that's fun, I was okay with that, but Beta 1.7.3 is full of bugs,
cobblestone stairs do not break fast (even with a diamond pickage it take ages to break a single block), the wooden slabs need to be broken with a pickage, the wooden stairs need to be broken with a sword, etc... there is so much stuff I hate about Beta 1.7.3, as a "builder" player.
This modded version feel like a perfect mix between the modern and the old Minecraft, the thing I miss the most is probably the enchantments, but apart from that, the game feel way more "Minecraftish" than the non sense Mojang took after the release 1.8.9.
This was really cool if feels like an alternate timeline where secret Friday updates kept going.
Definitely my favourite Minecraft mod of all time, keep up the good work!
This is what Minecraft would of looked like if it just took a different approach. Still, this is an amazing mod. For nostalgic & no preasuring game features.
If Microsoft didnt buy it and turn it into their golden goose
Man, this somehow looks fresh and nostalgic at the same time. Brings me right back to 2013! I've kind of given up on Minecraft at this point but damn this is tempting.
2011*
That's exactly how I thought Minecraft would be like when I was a kid. 12 years after I played for the first time and maybe 5 years without any interest of playing again, you're making me want to just make my survival world with this mod.
This is incredible work! Feels just right.
The permafrost area looks great, though I feel like there's more that can be done with the snowman to give it it's own identity as a mob, compared to the zombie.
This mod looks like if Minecraft was made in an alternative universe.
Thanks guys for updating it. I can't believe it's happening😮 hip hip hooray 😅
If developer reads this then please sir give a whole blog post about its Features and new crafting
It'll be included as part of the website once its built!

I would LOVE to see more older versions of minecraft get mods that make them equal to (if not better than) vanilla minecraft! It's like seeing minecraft in a parallel universe develop!

oh, this old school Minecraft is really cool! Especially the old world generation, this is something amazing! It was as if I returned to those wonderful times when I just started playing Minecraft. I hope that in the next updates the creator of the mod will add something interesting to the rivers, seas or caves.
I definitely want to test run some of these changes, because they sound like lots of fun. Nicely done as always.

Name suggestion: "Better than Frostburn"
hell yeah
criticisms:
1. it'd be kind of cool if the aurora borealis was made up of a composite of colored rectangles rather than having curves like that. it looks kind of out of place.
2. the snowman looks kind of strange ... i think it could be better.
3. the mob variants are awesome, but the zombies could be a little better in the kinds of variations that occur. for instance, their clothing could keep into a general color scheme rather than having such a wide range of colors.
other than that, this is fucking awesome. i cannot emphasize how much i love this mod. looking at these images makes me feel like i've played this before. the autumn trees and the tweaked water color create an environment that feels ... strangely familiar. looking through the discord development screenshots, i originally worried that this was too much content, and that it kind of defeated the point of the mod. this is not the case. this is fucking immaculate.
hats off to you guys.
Yeah you took those words out of my mouth
The aurora borealis is made up of composite coloured rectangles, just a lot of them and it has a gradient on it to make them look smooth when in reality they are just some blocky rectangles
Apollo yeah but you know what I mean. I think it should look more cuboid.
Some ideas were very cool, albeit a bit unintuitive. It took me a while to figure out just how to make a bed, but when the idea dawned on me, it made so much sense that I literally screamed out loud: 'DUDE! This is the greatest idea ever!' The concept of gating skipping nights by fighting a monster first makes surviving the first night truly about survival.
I did miss the regeneration from food, though, as I didn't enjoy the hunger system that much; I just tolerated it. I do appreciate the peace of mind that comes with regeneration rather than instant healing. However, stacking food in very small proportions makes the inventory cluttered, but the fights are so intense that I'd rather avoid them. Most of the resources needed for fighting are underground, where monsters abound, and your inability to sprint makes the adrenaline rush even more intense.
I enjoyed playing it for a while, but I felt anxious due to the lack of regeneration somehow. Not getting meat from cows, chickens, and sheep felt like I was robbed of a drop for killing them. I hope you'll add beef and chicken breast to the mod or that someone can mod it in if there isn't a specific reason for only having pork chop as the single available meat in the game.
I loved the small additions like the cherry fruits; they save your ass but take up a lot of inventory space, so no hoarding (good, right?). The textures were a tad odd at first, as I genuinely got used to the new ones, but after a while, they felt not only nostalgic but just right, like they belong there and fit in well. I'm sure you'll add more features from regular Minecraft if they adapt properly to the spirit of the old, simple cave game.
One thing I really appreciate in modern Minecraft is having long-term goals to aspire to, achievements that unlock further objectives beyond just completing the game or progressing through tools. I enjoy shields in modern Minecraft but understand why people hate the new combat. I, too, would prefer to have the option between the two rather than one or the other kind of deal(or a mix with spamming being possible but not as efficient, unlike in modern game where it deals 1 damage per hit if spammed XD).
Overall, I was pleasantly surprised by experiencing Minecraft like I haven't in a long time. I've been playing since 1.4.3(post launch), and back then, the game already looked quite different from both this and modern Minecraft. It didn't even have crafting shortcuts and quality-of-life features.
Anyway, I really appreciate what you all are doing here. This is great and an awesome addition to the world of Minecraft.
Incredibly tasteful set of additions. It fleshes out the game without the bloat.
I've always felt these mods that add a million things are just exhausting to even think of playing.
In an age of more more more, im happy to see some "this is enough"
Man watching old mc versions brings me back to when i'd watch elder siblings play mc on a parents computer

YOOOOOOOOO best minecraft mod is back!!! BTA legit revived my love for this game, so happy to see its still kicking
Amazing work! This is legit better than anything Mojang have put out since 1.16...
I had huge hopes with 1.18, I really like the revamped terrain generation, and ancient cities really felt old Minecraft in how the Warden works (no matter how stuffed and buffed you are, the Warden is not worth killing it whatsoever, so it balances all the pretty much unbalanced things added since beta 1.8)
@@a_d_z_y__ 1.18 terrain generation is imo...well to say the least, too amplified for normal worldgen
Also extremely limited, for the overworld atleast, you cannot change terrain as easily easily anymore, which inturn means no proper ocean only worlds either, since those will just have normal worldgen minus the biome variation
@@Damian-cilr2I just don’t like how barren the new caves can be. They’re so big that you can easily run out of materials to make tools to leave.
@@a_d_z_y__Try playing 1.18 when you are forced to play within only 6-8 chunks radius due to your computer's limitations, The terrain just looks so empty, ugly, repetitive and at other times just looks like a bunch of circles mashed together, It's like a 6 year old tried to do terraforming with the world-edit mod with only the sphere brush, It's even worse in bedrock due to lack of grass. Try to find anything other than the plains or savanna biome, you can't.

Oh my gosh YES, this mod just got me truly interested in Beta 1.7.3, I hope more people see this. Great work!
This is bringing me back to when i played this game on a console WITH the old hurtsounds and everything.
dude.... this is amazing
It's incredible, I think you may have found a better way to do minecraft updates. See, now, mojang is limited by the things they added before, the game feels less empty and liminal that it used to do, but if we make a completely different version of it, starting from 1.7.3, then we could easily overcome this problem. This mod is maybe the future of minecraft.
>The game feels less liminal
This simple word, liminal, manages to tell so much about the sort of feeling the og Minecraft we first first met gave us.
Won’t this modpack run into the same problem if they keep updating it? And if they don’t keep updating it, people will inevitably complain and stop playing it
@@athelstanrex A lot of the commentors in this comment section are viewing this mod through rose-tinted glasses. The thing is, is that it will eventually change to the point where people will go "This isn't like the Minecraft I knew" or say dumb things like "It doesn't feel like Minecraft anymore". People only like it mainly because it's built upon an older version with minimal changes to mechanics and aesthetics. But the moment it changes significantly or introduces anything people aren't used to or what they think doesn't "fit" the legacy MC style, then it's apparently no longer "Minecraft" anymore...
Describing this mod as "the future of Minecraft" is pushing it quite a bit but I do think this mod could be quite good.
