Okay, woodworking, bookbinding, electrician work, miniature models, fantasy nerdship, painting and more, all under an umbrella of artistic creation..... It's an incredibly pleasant affair to discover a thing this wonderful when you have never asked for it, thought about it, searched for it or had any idea that it would make you happy. And for that, I thank you.
This one took soo much time to make! What do you think about these fantasy-inspired builds? (I love them if you didn't realize by now). Thanks for watching and waiting for this vid, I know it's been a while since the last one!
@@obitoasty7065 Great question. Since many of these techniques are new to me, and we do a lot of cameraworkas well, it's probably not representative for another person, but around 60-70 hours. There was a lot of time spent figuring out how to do stuff, etc. so doing it again would probably only take around 15-20 hours.
About 35 years ago I made a staff with a ball on top. I used straight piece of oak branch that I found on a hike and carved it with a 3-bladed pocket knife. Then I flame-tempered it and after scraping all the char off I hand-rubbed it until it was nice and smooth. Since I was a big LotR nerd (and still am) I carved a bunch of runes in it from the appendixes of The Return of the King. Since the staff was a deep brown color the freshly carven runes really popped, as they were the color of un-flamed bare wood. I ended up giving the staff to my father as a Father's Day gift many years ago. He passed on Tuesday from cancer and as I was cleaning his house and getting together his belongings I found the staff in the closet. He kept it all these years along with a small wooden hound dog I had carved for him. Anyway, love the channel, it's good to see someone inspiring others to be creative especially in the fantasy realm. The world is so messed up nowadays, everyone needs an escape as well as a positive creative outlet...this channel serves both purposes and I'm glad I found it!
Just an old lady here who thinks she was born a few generations too soon. Martina, you're an inspiration to young women everywhere to be creative thinkers, problem solvers, and makers. I love projects and always have at least one going, but your skills are so far beyond mine it's crazy. This video, in particular, helped me figure out how to do a hollow casting (and bubbles aren't a concern, but thanks, Hansi), and I do so love learning new skills. Thanks to both of you for all of your very informative and entertaining videos.
Friends: why can't you just have a plain old fish tank? Me: because I watch Nerdforge... and I KNOW this little guy wants to be a sunken treasure chest.
This is FRICKIN' EPIC!! I would genuinely be making one now if it wasn't for my lack of funding for importing half a tree, buying 12 gallons of epoxy resin, purchasing of several power tools and my lack of a Hansi for DIY pressure cooker whatsamajig. However.... I *could* make miniature versions with sticks and UV resin and turn them into earrings! **grabs sketchbook** BTW; anyone else getting random Zelda vibes from this staff?
Hmm, you don’t need to import half a tree I think. Depending on where you live, you could do the same with just an ordinary plank. Local shops should sell them though you may need to do some looking. You also don’t need power tools! Annnndd….that’s about that for my comfort comment, dunno about substituting a pressure cook and resin. I guess you could just design a 100% wood staff? With cool carvings and stuff?
I feel like out of all of the amazing fantasy outfits we have been shown and all of the fantasy items you have made, you would be able to film a whole fantasy movie (or short movie) featuring all of the items. It would definitely be a huge project and I understand that but the outcome would be too good to even describe with words.
Wrench staff! That's funny! Hansi appearing with the "super unsafe" vacuum chamber and the bad acting was an excellent touch. Beautiful work as always!
Everybody can make garbage. Take this comment, for instance. It's garbage. d: Edit: The garbage comment I was referring to was my own. I got no beef with JulietteASM or her comment.
With so much dedication to carve this huge wooden plank and then split and re-glue it back and shape the top part, I can no longer resist and join as a member! Please don't stop doing what you are doing! Just be a bit more safe when drilling things, no need to loose a hand ;) well, and wood+PVC pressure pot also... fun, but you two deserve good tools!

You could of used threaded "nutserts" for the wooden triangle piece @ 8:26 .. For easy and frequent removal. Threads on either or both sides...There are many styles for wood and steel.

Hi, I just stating watching your channel and wanted to say you are amazing. Love your creativity and how many tools and materials you know how to work with. Wanted to add a helpful hint to finishing the epoxy globe. (you may know this but no harm telling you) My stepfather taught me how to paint a car and the main process was the sanding part. The last stage in the painting process, after adding a few coats, was to wet sand it and use 1000 Grit wet sandpaper. It made the gloss finish like a mirror. I only mentioned because when you were walking in the dark I could still see the sandpaper marks from rotating it on the drill. It may be helpful in future projects. Hope it helps...
I love how much work you put into all your builds ❤️ the staff looks absolutely beautiful 😍 and it's so cool that the orb has kind of a blue smoke inside - I don't know if it was on purpose since it looked like it was hard so mix the color but it looks so cool!
I know this is not supposed to be a tutorial, but it still gives me some very good ideas about how to make a Staff of Magius for my Raistlin Cosplay! So thanks!
Hey so a tip I learned is starting the pour, doing the tapping, popping bubbles with a flame thrower, then once it gets to this certain state (I can't remember when) it's good to pour more and do the same thing. It's a big pour so all the heat makes it weird. Of course that's if you didn't have an awesome diy pressure chamber to make a perfect one
I absolutely LOVE what you did. The shots at the end o the film where you standing in the dark and turned it on was a great effect. The only thing different that I would have done is install a dimmer switch so the crystal could have slowly increased in intensity rather than popping on so quickly. I think it would have given it more of a mysterious effect. JMHO.
I kinda wish you had used the one with bubbles, because teh way the light would have refracted through it would have been amazing. The end product does look stunning though... I love the videos I have came across and you are such a wonderful person and crafter

How you described turning the square stock into a round shape is really close to how they used to make wooden ship masts. Always thought it was a neat process.
How cool is this!!! I was watching you struggle to cast the ball and I'm thinking "she needs a vacuum thingie" (I don't build anything I just love watching, and Boylei Hobby often vaccuums his epoxy before deep pours), and then your boo came in with the diy vacuum! So cute/sweet
Excellent staff. I just discovered your channel, and I wanted to say that the improvement you have made over the last 3 years is AMAZING! The production values, your English, the editing, and the sound quality are now all top notch. You two do an incredible job producing extremely high quality content. Subscribed!
Let me start by saying I love everything that you do, you are an amazing artist and very creative. Hansi and you make a great team! Could you please tell me the name of the tune at the beginning of the video and where I could get it?
Method I heard of for making an epoxy sphere. Use 2 sphere molds. One little smaller than the other. Suspend the smaller mold in the middle of the larger one then pour the epoxy. It cuts down on the amount of epoxy needed, reduces the weight of the final product, and gives you an inner sphere to place any electronics such as lights.
Hansi: "it's super unsafe"

How cool is this!!! I was watching you struggle to cast the ball and I'm thinking "she needs a vacuum thingie" (I don't build anything I just love watching, and Boylei Hobby often vaccuums his epoxy before deep pours), and then your boo came in with the diy vacuum! So cute/sweet
Amazing job, girl! Really fantastic! 😃
Why is everything you make so nice!?

Could you please tell me the name of the tune at the beginning of the video and where I could get it?
Method I heard of for making an epoxy sphere. Use 2 sphere molds. One little smaller than the other. Suspend the smaller mold in the middle of the larger one then pour the epoxy. It cuts down on the amount of epoxy needed, reduces the weight of the final product, and gives you an inner sphere to place any electronics such as lights.
