It’s good to be aware of it. And also not to shame ourselves. People spend this kind of money on their interests and hobbies - clubbing, running, etc. The weird thing is our beauty spending isn’t just a hobby but is also highly influenced by marketing and societal pressures. The more aware we are about what we want and why, the more we can feel secure in our decision to spend.
Love this video, Rachel! Such an underrated topic and an important societal discussion. I have never tallied my self-care expenses but I am certain it is considerableeeeeeee …haha I don’t spend money on cocktails or super fancy bags but have so many weird supplements and devices. And amen to copper IUD point 😂😂😂
Supplements and devices are my kind of investments, too! I don’t even want to know just how much I’ve spent on those categories. And that copper IUD. Those who know REALLY KNOW 😂
Eye-opening. Most of the time, the money I spend on cosmetics and cosmetic/skincare enhancements, I find is worth it for the fun and the self-confidence it brings. BUT . . . lately, I've grown weary of every shiny, new ingredient/product I should go out and buy. I have too much skincare and it makes me feel overwhelmed at all the steps. I'm actively working on using it all up and being more selective. There is something to be said for simplicity. Thanks, Rachel!
Always great to hear from you, Debbie! We are in the very same boat! Trying to use things up before taking on anything new and keep blinders on from all of the new shiny things!
I totally agree with you! I’m glad I’m not the only person feeling like as o get older a lot of this that made a difference don’t make a difference any more
Wow! That was soooooo good. Thank you! I started a list of the self care items that I buy regularly … ugh. Making the list definitely feels like I’m gaining more control of my behavior. I want to be more intentional. Thanks for bringing this to light for me at this time moment, ❤
You’re a very intelligent woman you remind me of one of my granddaughters and they are very beautiful. Just like you inside and out. Thank you for your videos. I just discovered them the one that caught my eye was the cast oil when my daughter got me a bottle of castor oil along with the cloth packs. I feel ashamed. I haven’t tried them yet but I have tried the Gasteuil I’m 75 years old and talk about thin eyelashes lol anyway keep up the good work girl I do appreciate it!
How I appreciate you taking the time to leave such a kind comment. You must be so proud of the family you created. I dream of having daughters and granddaughters someday. You must have a full heart to go with those full lashes!
I didn’t shave my legs from 2011-2022 but decided to that summer because I bought a white dress and didn’t like how my leg hair contrasted with the color. Now I have been shaving again for like a year because I think it looks better and the razor expense sucks. I definitely see why women stop shaving in the winter. I will probably be one of them! Laser hair removal seems like a much better option in the long run but I feel like the cost is a lot for me since leg hair doesn’t bother me that much. I’d rather spend it on massages!
Would you mind trying oralift ? A lot of people think looking older has to do with skin and lack of subcutaneous fat, but it also has so much to do with facial structure and bone density , I feel that isn’t mentioned and looked into enough, a new set of veneers or composites can definitely change face shape and structure. Btw I like this channel it’s super cool it’s chill and not annoying lol
Going down the Oralift rabbit hole and it’s fascinating! My only concern is the discipline required 😳. And thank you out for your kind words “Not being annoying” is the ultimate compliment.
I say this on a regular: these beautiful ladies out here with these expensive bedazzled nails on that will get thrown in the garbage if they don't get a fill in, yet walking around with costume jewelry. I refuse.😅 As for me, I'm team diy when it comes to my nails. I'd rather INVEST my coins on the real jewels that I can cherish for a lifetime. It's something that doesn't lose it's luster and get discarded. ❤

It is painful to look at isn’t it 🤦🏻♀️
Menstrual cups/discs are a great investment and better for the environment!

That’s the way I love to look at it! “What would I rather spend my money on?”

Thank you for doing this video. Women need to hear this. A proud ANTI-CONSUMER.
