Maybe its just cause she's mine but maybe its just cause she independent and stubborn like I am and wanna do everything myself lol. She plays basketball to but I know more about theoretical physics than I do basketball so im kinda stuck just helping with softball. Well, stuck helping everyone else anyway, but, I guess a little bit in the click of things is better than not being in it at all 🤷🏼
As a former minor league player and All-American (JUCO) who grew up playing fast pitch softball with older kids in my youth, this is an excellent mechanical tutorial exhibition on the art of fast pitch technique. This will help thousands of young up and coming players for sure! Just another reason I watch women's college softball as much as much as I do with Major League baseball. I am not alone!

I coach beginners 8 9 10 11 year old girls and still to this day have push back from parents on internal rotation and how we pitch with our legs and body and our arms and hands and fingers are just the vessel that carries and spin the ball and the force of our legs dive the power to our fingers. It's a battle but I appreciate this. I tell them to trust the process of building machenics
Interesting...when I learned how to pitch, I didn't release the ball with the hips open and the foot dragging behind into a figure four. I learned to do it the first way with the top of the cleat being dragged and that's how I'm teaching the girls I'm working with. It worked fine for me. Speed wise, never have been above 48-50. 55 if I was lucky. But normally was around 48 when clocked. *shrug* It was fun to pitch. But interesting to see how you put it, especially the follow through drag. I don't think I'll be able to relearn that one. LOL.

My daughter is smaller then the most at her age - she get that chant of pewee power at bat- anyhow I will use this video as a guide . Thanks ! Amanda, what kind of pitch are you throwing in the closeup of your hand around 0:30? The grip looks like a 2 seam fastball but the spin looks a little sideways (though that may just be the video angle). And thanks for the great video.
I am so thankful I stumbled across this video, after paying alot of money to have my daughter coached, it just wasnt clicking with her what she needed to do and was pitching poorly. I saw this and said, thats it im switching up her tech and Im coaching her! Low and behold after one day of training she is throwing strikes!! One question though, I cant tell when you are snapping your wrist, if you are at all? I had a pitching coach watch her during her last game and said her only problem is she is not snapping her wrist. When my daughter releases the ball her palm is to the side so Im not sure how she would snap her wrist in that position. So can you please tell me when and if you are snapping your wrist? Thank you
The term is “ internal rotation”. Same as a golf swing. As palm facing up when forearm level with ground, then wrist and forearm rotates so palm faces catcher when arm is at release point . The key to prevent injury and have more power and snap is to continue the rotation of the forearm internally or counterclockwise. This is when the arm wants to be . Very natural. Watch a golf swing . Right hand is in the same position at backswing, contact and follow thru.
Really nice slow motion video and narration of the lower body mechanics. However, I was waiting for some explanation on the arm mechanics, specifically the IR of the arm, seeing your antecubital fossa rotate inward at the point of release/wrist snap.
Softball Gorl you stretch that arm and your throwing arm out towards your target during the pitch and then as you release the ball you slap your glove against your left thigh, i hope that helped
I am a beginner pitcher and all the pitch I throw are always ball when i pitch with the other pitcher i feel embarrassed because i can see in my teammates and coaches face their disappointment😔. Any advice?
I believe that women fast pitch softball pitchers waste a LOT of energy trying to imitate collegiate women pitchers of the PAST. Don't teach your kid these methods - they will tire out putting so much energy into a style that produces no more speed and types of pitches than a typical MALE fast pitch pitcher. I know, I know - I'm comparing oranges and apples- (men vs. women) - but I've seen male pitchers pitch all 7 innings without even breaking a sweat. Female pitchers are copying a style that WASTES so much energy!! Compact the pitch, conserve energy and save your body - you will be the one who is physically able to make it ALL the way through playoffs without pain. Male fast pitch pitchers don' get the nickname "flick" for no reason. This step and 1/2 business for women pitchers doesn't increase speed! Increase your infield abilities rather than trying for a strikeout!!

As I have always toldl my parents and students, there are many great pitchers, but not many have great mechanics. Amanda has perfect mechanics!

i know this is late but once you come down to your hip your wrist should snap the ball forward into a finishing position
