Oh my god the detail on that bell. It's there for the entirety of the segment until it's being put in reverse, but not only that, it's 100% in key with the background song (and the song that follows, even). Fucking beautiful, Edgar. Absolutely fucking beautiful.
Anyone ever noticed how all three movies - Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and World's End - are about a group of people trying to survive in a town full of murderous denizens?
Love the physical acting from everybody else during Gary’s speech honestly During the speech you can see Steven seems to be the only one humouring Gary as his reaction goes from a confused frown to a “this guy serious?” Smirk to a disappointed frown when he realises Gary is for real. Oliver is bewildered by Gary’s actions throughout and is just staring like he’s witnessing a car crash. Peter is confused at first, looks away to ignore him and focus on something else then has to take a few seconds to snap back to reality and realises Gary’s still talking. Andy’s focusing on anything other than Gary and trying to distract himself with the building’s interior but then realises what Gary is doing and just has to watch in annoyance Pretty good physical acting from everybody honestly
One thing I just noticed as a car nerd. Foreshadowing - all the cars parked at 1:10 are electric cars. I put this down initially to Vauxhall having a deal to product place their cars but it makes more sense if you think the blanks are using top technology available to them. (Other shots with petrol cars, I guess undermines this or they couldn't clear the roads for shooting)
I feel like i'm the only one who finds this scene depressing gary is just trying to recreate the best moment of his life before he ends his life even though all his friends changed and moved on from their childhood
Well, Gary already tried to end his life before even trying to recreate it. What's sad is that even if he had succeeded, it wouldn't last. It was only one night out of an entire lifetime. That's the mistake he's making, which lots of people do. There never were any "good old days." There was just things you didn't know yet. And yeah, his friends moved on but none of them are all that happy either. Life is hard. ("Life is pain, highness. Anyone who tells you differently is selling something.") But it beats the alternative. And nothing worth doing was ever easy.
@TheTipArrowNT You can see it as depressing, yes _ but you can also see it as defiant and triumphant. They didn’t use one of 1990s England’s greatest songs straight after his speech for nothing. It was practically the decade’s national anthem.
I seriously can't stop laughing at 1:39. I mean seriously, they were all walking at 1:32 in the same place and then suddenly, Gary in front of the door. Edgar is a damn genius.
You can see the logo everywhere in the movie. It’s the town crest, the logo for Crown & Glory Beer it’s even on the school uniforms of all the kids in The Mermaid
Yep, she's also in Shaun of the Dead (Yvonne's mom) and Hot Fuzz (Mary Porter, one of the NWA members, the wife of the bartender, the woman whose age was listed wrong (she's 53, not 55)).
Richard Cejer Yeah I didn't believe it when I first read it but I looked again and thought it could be him since he never appears in focus. It's probably just confirmation bias on my behalf though.
They are just not conventionally attractive, something that is herasy in Hollywood. Would even say they are worse than that, they must always play the jester, because they are seen as ugly.
@@cou1202 I think that accolade belonged to 'Three Lions' tbh, all the same, the 90s was a great time to be a teenager / twenty summet so many great bands and tunes
Picking up the map is actually the first indication something's wrong. They all tried the Golden Mile multiple times, and all grew up there. If he was the original, he wouldn't have needed the map.

Right I gotta go watch the worlds end now.

welcome to the realisation of the 'Cornetto Trilogy'.
I truly love this movie, I’ll still be watching this 10, 20 years from now if I make it that far.

If England ever wants a new national anthem, it should be this speech, followed by this song.
I need this
So do we all.

He only tried to end it because he felt nothing.
It's more likely if he finished the golden mile he'd feel conplete and move on with the guys.

Great scene.
“Though we may return with a twinkle in our eyes, we will, in truth, be blind... drunk!”
Brilliant
To be fair Pete and Oliver returned with twinkles in their eyes but that’s for different reasons
I love how every car is an electric Opel Ampera.... XD
Vauxhall Ampera In The UK.
Makes sense if the blanks are using the advanced technologies they proclaim to have brought to human civilisation :)
when you first see gary arrive at the station to pick up the others, there's a billboard in the background advertising the ampera too
I seriously can't stop laughing at 1:39. I mean seriously, they were all walking at 1:32 in the same place and then suddenly, Gary in front of the door. Edgar is a damn genius.
1:22 Just noticed those are the five teenage blanks the gang ends up fighting in the bathroom
The logo on the Newton Haven pub brochures are the same logos that the Network uses... Love the foreshadowing in this movie.
You can see the logo everywhere in the movie. It’s the town crest, the logo for Crown & Glory Beer it’s even on the school uniforms of all the kids in The Mermaid
This man's voice is gold
this scene lives in my head rent free and im never mad about it
What a song !!
They didn’t use one of 1990s England’s greatest songs straight after his speech for nothing. It was practically the decade’s national anthem.
Suede - So young.
**When my friend's mum asks what the plans are for tonight**
Wow this scene is really funny and sad at the same time
@1:49 Pete from Shaun of the dead
I just noticed!
Pete's a real prick
Oh crap! Your right! I didn't even noticed him.
It's Marsha from Spaced!!!
''Hullo Brian''
God that makes me feel old, seeing Tyres, Brian and Marsha in this film makes me feel like Garry King...
Nick Frost really has aged the best out of the lot of them
Yep, she's also in Shaun of the Dead (Yvonne's mom) and Hot Fuzz (Mary Porter, one of the NWA members, the wife of the bartender, the woman whose age was listed wrong (she's 53, not 55)).
Holy shit how did I not recognize her! Shows how integral her voice is to her character.
Is there nothing more sad than to grow old yet pine for our youth.
I didn't realise Marsha from Spaced was in this! And apparently Brian is as well :O
Last time they brought the gang back together. Hard to believe they were all student days in Spaced.
Cameo from Peter Serafinowicz there as the angry guy who got his doorbell rung.
Nope
Richard Cejer From IMDB:
Peter Serafinowicz
Knock-a-Door Run Home Owner (uncredited)
Slow to 0.25 you can see it isn't him. IMDb is like Wikipedia in that it can be edited by users
Richard Cejer Yeah I didn't believe it when I first read it but I looked again and thought it could be him since he never appears in focus. It's probably just confirmation bias on my behalf though.
What are you on about? That's definitely Peter Serafinowicz.

And to think Hollywood treats Nick Frost and Simon Pegg like supporting characters - all because they aren't tall enough.
They are just not conventionally attractive, something that is herasy in Hollywood. Would even say they are worse than that, they must always play the jester, because they are seen as ugly.
Where is Newton Haven actually? Can't find it on Google Maps.
Denny Rahardjo it’s not a real place, unfortunately
modelled on a new town in the chilterns, high wycombe and other hertfordshire towns
Denny Rahardjo You probably can't find it due to the fact that it does not exist

Oh shit just realised the group of kids they meet here is the same in the bathroom fight
Notice how the everybody is walking in the opposite direction 2 hint at the strangeness on the town
I did notice that in the "Five friends on a night out," part with "Alabama Song," playing, but not here

fun fact: the whole speech was filmed in 1 take, idunno how many he had fucked up, but he did it in 1 take
On the bloopers reel there is this scene with multiple takes.
