    The great thing about the Matt Smith cameo in this dramatization is that he is green screened into the shot. The reason why is so if they want to air this story again down the line say for the 60th anniversary, they can replace Matt Smith with the current Doctor. So that the meaning and impact behind the cameo isn't lost, It started with William and its still going, The Doctor lives on and through the new incarnations so does Hartnell.

    To anyone confused by that "Avengers" line, it's not referring to the Marvel Comics. The Avengers was actually a 60s spy show that aired on UK television, years before Marvel decided to create a team of their heroes and also call them the Avengers!

      Neither the Doctor nor Susan were 'Gallifreyans' when the first doctor era was aired, the Time Lords aren't mentioned until Troughton's last episode and Gallifrey not until Pertwee's last season. Considering how inconsistent the show is with all of it's canon (I should clarify I don't think this is a flaw particularly) I'm not sure it would be helpful to start imposing all this lore on them just to make them confused later.

    • @Kasterborous1963
      @Kasterborous1963 5 лет назад +3

      Not true. Passing the Academy isn't what gives regenerations. It does grant the Time Lord rank. But there is also a Time Lord species (Gallifreyans with triple helix DNA). The species of Time Lords are the ones with regenerations. 2 examples; Susan isn't a Time Lord in species (but is in rank) and she can't regenerate. Rassilon is a Time Lord in species (not in rank as the Academy was founded after his death so he clearly never graduated) and he can regenerate.

      Travis Poirier yes I know “passing the academy” doesn’t directly give them regenerations, I always thought it was bestowed by rassilon upon those who passed, since wasn’t he the one who discovered/invented regeneration?

    • @Kasterborous1963
      @Kasterborous1963 5 лет назад +2

      @@ProEllusionist Rassilon was dead during the majority of the Academy's existence so it'd be impossible for him to give regenerations. Rassilon was dead and only came back during the Eighth Doctor's era (other than the hologram of Rassilon in The Five Doctors).
      In truth, Rassilon genetically altered some Gallifreyans which gave them regenerations, a longer lifespan, etc. But he never changed all of them. The Academy was founded long after his death and had the six chapters all made in honour of the six founders of Time Lord society. The Prydonian Chapter was the one made in honour of Rassilon.

    It's called a Docudrama. Doctor Who aired at the same time as the JFK Assassination which resulted Verity Lambert pushing Sydney Newman to re air the show a week later. Sydney came up with the idea of regeneration because the show was doing so well but William Hartnell couldn't remember his lines anymore.
    Doctor Who was set up to fail from the beginning but ended up being BBC's biggest show. Doctor Who also originally was supposed to be an educational show that taught kids about historic events, that's why Sydney said no robots or bug eyed monsters.
    Susan continues to travel with the Doctor and her two teachers until the 1964 serial, The Dalek Invasion of Earth. During the events of that story, Susan falls in love with David Campbell (Peter Fraser), a young freedom fighter in the 22nd century. However, Susan feels that she has to stay with and take care of her grandfather. The Doctor, realising that Susan is now a grown woman and deserves a future away from him, locks her out of the TARDIS and leaves after a tearful farewell.

    23:23 Susan (the Doctors granddaughter and her real name apparently being ‘Arkiyitor’ which means ‘Rose’ 😏😏) escaped Gallifrey with the Doctor and travelled with him until reaching Earth. She became a student there until 2 of her teachers found out who she and the Doctor really were, so the Doctor kidnaps them and that’s where their journey starts.
    Susan leaves in ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’. Up until then she had always had a very young personality who was still getting used to the world. But in TDIOE she meets a man called David, who she falls in love with. The Doctor realises it’s time to let go of her because she became much more independent (hence the very famous Goodbye speech in Doctor Who is performed by the Doctor).
    Susan has only once been seen again and that was in ‘The Five Doctors’, but actress Carole Ann Ford (who played Susan) has expressed interest in coming back to her role.

    The BBC had a policy of disposing of programmes once they were no longer of value. That was pretty much once any overseas sales had been completed as shows were not typically repeated in the domestic market. The masters were on 2" magnetic tape that was both expensive and bulky to store so it made sense to reuse the media. The broadcasters (and the BBC were not unusual in this policy) could not have foreseen the rise of home video and the potential value of these old shows, especially as the rise of colour television made the older black and white programmes almost impossible to sell.
    If everything had gone to plan, none of the 60s episodes would have existed--they should all have been scrapped. The master tapes should have been wiped and the 16mm prints used for overseas sales were supposed to be destroyed after final transmission (the practice was that each broadcaster would post the film reels on to the next after airing thus saving on film prints and postage until the last who was responsible for disposal either by destroying the print themselves or returning it to London for destruction). In fact, a number of master tapes were found decades later either misfiled or just put away in odd places and many broadcasters didn't bother to destroy or return the overseas prints some of which were discovered 20 or 30 years later tucked away in cupboards and stores around the world from Africa to Hong Kong.
    A complete set of audio recordings exists thanks to enthusiasts who recorded the soundtrack off-air. Still photographs also exist for most stories due to the work of an inventor (John Cura) who had an automatic camera system set up to capture a still image every few seconds throughout the broadcast schedule. He termed these tele-snaps and continued to produce them for over 20 years selling the resulting photographs to actors, production staff and broadcasters (ironically, including the BBC themselves) for their portfolios. After his death his widow apparently offered the 250,000 photograph archive to the BBC who turned her down and they were subsequently destroyed. Fortunately, many copies were still in the hands of the original artists and staff.
    These audio recordings and telesnaps form the basis of the reconstructions of missing episodes. No tele-snaps have been found for some stories, presumably because Cura either failed to sell any or they have been lost after sale.

    • @Yetaxa
      @Yetaxa 5 лет назад
