I have had mine for 4 days now, and I can honestly say, that I am also blown away by the way this controller integrates into Cubase. I have done things in my projects, I never did before, and am controlling my plugins with the knobs which is great. I also did not find a way to control the channel instrument other than using quick-controls. I am guessing it will come in a later update. And one small thing, you didn't mention about the knob colours - you can actually change them by holding Shift, touching a knob, and then scroll through colors with the data wheel - all without going into learning mode - so cool. If you are using Cubase and have been looking for the perfect replacement for our beloved CC121 - now is the time.
If Steinberg creates their own new controller, I hope it includes all features from this Nektar Panorama CS12 and iCon P1, especially programmable touchscreen buttons that can be assigned to Cubase macros, key commands, or Cubase logical presets, etc.
I have been using the CS12 for 2 weeks now. Out the box all knobs and functions are already set up. So easy to get started but I am in the process of adding my own functions. Great value
Have you figurednout how to change a command for Shift+button? I am trying to make redo control Mixer History Redo
@@peterrostgaardbojesen5790 Not yet, so far I have only assigned some Quick Controls. I will play with this some more on the weekend
Good god man, excellent review, best I've seen. Need one of these YESTERDAY!
I hadn't even heard of this thing before seeing your video, but I'm so happy to FINALLY have a legit alternative to the discontinued CC-121. Fantastic work, Dom, thanks for sharing all that great information!
Finally a controller that makes sense and ticks all the boxes. Thank you, Dom!
No doubt , this is the Cubase controller gift that keeps giving. after using it for a two weeks I have recorded and mixed my first track and it's wonderfully functional and intuitive and takes my workflow to a new level. Nice review Dom!
Boom!! Been hunting for a CC121 for a long time and haven't found one, but now I don't need to; I must order a CS12 right away and my mouse hand will be grateful later :) Thanks Dom! (Also, a good crash course in using the controller, I really appreciate it!)
Wow, Nektar is just killing it lately and this new controller looks really promising. A little pricey for the all plastic build but tons of features. The pre mapped plugin control is the game changer here I think.
Really nice demo. Thanks! Great controller
First off not sure if I told you that it was an honor to shake your hand and talk to you The NAMM Show, thank you!
Now onto your current video here. I have had this controller in my basket for about a month but have pulled the trigger because I wasn't sure if it was really as good as others have said. You have broken that wall down. I will be pulling that trigger now. Thank you for this wonderful insight.
the zoom just did it for me, ther was an uttering of Oh My God in my livingroom studio cave
Nice one. I remember seeing the launch of this with Logic integration out of the box and stating future updates for Cubase. Glad to see it's finally working with Cubase.
Astonished to find that it's so reasonably priced too. I had expected about £500-600 but it's just over £300 in the UK.
What a beautiful controllers Dom! I hope the fader feels good too
Been waiting for this one haha. I have the CS12 in my basket and have been wanting more Cubase specific reviews. I may have to wait until next month as I bought a new desk this recently, but I'm sure I'm gonna go for it, Thanks!
Buy it. You have to have Cubase 13 upwards but apart from that, it is a no brainer.
Thank, Dom! Is a really look like a cool alternative vs CC121! Left to waiting to accesability for my country.
Been waiting for more CB reviews of this controller. It looks really good. I do think they missed an easy opportunity by not making the knobs a push button as well. My Midi Fighter has this functionality and it basically doubles the amount of control is very useful. All in all, this seems to be a well made and fairly well thought out controller. Thanks as always for what you do Dom!
Great review. Midi remote as an api is finally maturing into usefulness! Nektar said they did a lot of work with Steinberg to improve it.
One issue I still encounter with midi remotes is disconnection issues. Have you run into this? It especially hits when opening a 2nd session without quitting Cubase.
très bonne question ;)
Thank you Dom Excellent !!!!!!.I have this controller its amazing with Cubase
I bought the cs 12 and can only confirm how great it is .
BROOO i love your content. Have a good 1
I want!! makes so much sense.
Bought this 2 days ago! Can't wait to get try it out 😊
Hurry up DHL! 🤗
When the CS12 appeared about a year ago I was like "YEAH...oh no, only Logic...".
Forgot about it...
December stumbled upon some news stating that it supports now Cubase...
Looking at video for 3 weeks...
1st week of January, late x-mas present to myself...
Used it ever since and do not want to turn back to my CC121. This IS a real replacement!
Thank you @Dom for your Video too as it shows many of the workflow improvements you can do.
ay, they updated it with another DAW. Nice. Thanks for sharing
Stunning ... thanks, Dom. ;-)
The only thing I can think of that you left out is this same controller also works with Logic with the same depth of control and coming next is Reaper compatibility with Studio One next after that. So as time goes by if you decide to change DAWs the Panorama CS12 can move with you. Great review!
So exciting! 🤩
Purchased, thank you!
this one looks great! (to be PERFECT it needs an X/Y panel.... and a bigger scroll wheel and another motorized fader dedicated only to the AI function)
Second time watching. So freaking excited!
4:58 best moment of my life
That looks really promising.
I bought MP MIDI controller and have absolutely zero issues. It's amazing. So flexible
No transport controls and you have to put all your plugins in a wrapper. That’s a no-go for me.
@QuantumComposer it does have all transport controls, and you can control all vsts without the wrapper. You can use the wrapper only if you want to see the whole vst on that controller. I have it, trust me. Works incredibly well
Have my CC121 since 2009 or something. Been also looking into many controllers but non of them was worth it. I need something like the CC121 when it comes to size to place it on the left of my keyboard. I think this is it. Plugin mapping is great. No need for 8 faders. I would be ready to pay double the price for a metal version with rigid knobs and so on.
Nektar always had the best Cubase integration, its not even close. Panorama P4 is now 10 years old and is still the best thing ever. CS12 is killing it.
Great to hear the CS 12 is fully compatible with Cubase! I use a CC121 and wonder-does CS 12 truly speed up workflow if you're still clicking and moving things? The main advantage seems to be the tactile experience vs. mouse and keyboard in many cases (e.g., setting "loop mode"-is it really faster on the CS 12?). One nice feature is the ability to pull up specific plugins of a channel that are on screen.
Can you open an instrument assigned to a track with the CS 12?
Thank you
this is definitely the first real upgrade of the cc121
I just ordered one 😎
I think I was one of the people adding to the overwhelming requests to look at this🙃
Thanks for the video! - as i was really hard configuring my streamdeck + - i can almost do many similar things like clip gain, pre filters.. etc. but plugins controlliong in CS12 is exceptional.. it seams to have one of the best scripts ever.. ;) - i have 3 streamdecks and i like muscle memory so everthing has its place - that would mean switching to CS12 would mean a bit of trainging :D - all the best
I have a CC121, Monogram CC, and two iPad pro 12" with Lemur, and I love my Streamdeck+ dials for clip gain , jog, scrub, and waveform scale. This controller is super tempting, but I also feel retraining muscle memory is more of a concern than cost!
I wish the knobs on the right of the unit had rubber coating because they're quite stiff and I find the smooth plastic slippery. They need something more grippy. I wonder if there are any 3rd party knobs you could swap them with 🤔 Also the light comes through the internal shaft, so knobs with a clear centre would transmit the light better than around the edge.
@@hexial Some of those "grippy" knobs become super sticky after a few years. I have a Nektar Panorama P6 and it had the grippy style knobs and they had to be replaced after a few years.
2 first impressions: Two good, one bad. The C12 fader is far less noisy than the CC121 when playing back automation but there is a considerable lag compared to the Steinberg CC121. I hope Nektar can do something about it in future updates. Another big plus of the C12 is that you can see the buttons in the dark, one of the real weak points of the CC121.
thank you for sharing
Very impressive piece of gear. Looking for a replacement for my CC121 for a long time although it is still working fine for many years. The one and only thing for me is that the CS12 cannot switch between my control room monitors as far I can see.... a function I use a lot on my CC121. If they'd implement that in the software I'd buy it right away.
well, I wasn't planning to spend $400 today, but here we go!!! :)
Thanks 🙏🏻
OK Nektar, take my money! LOL One question, the CC121 allowed you to easily open the Instrument Editor for an Instrument Channel. Is there a way to do that with the CS12? At 1st glance I think that is what I would miss from the CC121 the most. The dedicated buttons next to the fader for Read and Write automation and to turn the channel monitor on and off and opening and closing both the channel editor and instrument editor for a channel. But maybe it's there and you just didn't have time to tell us about it.
I don’t have use for this controller but opening instrument editor is easily the worst time waster in cubase for me
Actually when the select button pressed not only does the fader control whatever is under the mouse pointer but so does the pan knob too is you prefer turny action..
The Nektar seems awfully big as a single fader unit to fit on a desk with Softube Console / Fader. On its own, looks great. I'm leaning toward SSL UF1.
Now I've got to find the desk space... Lol
Love your videos, but I think I’ll stick to my Softube Console MK3. 😊
Dom, stop making me want to buy things.!!!! :)
9:18 eucon Controllers can do it, I think. I don’t know if it’s assignable to a rotary knob though
Boom ! With this controller, Cubase plugins become hardware ! Looks like you don't need to use your mouse. Maybe the screen can be bigger ?
Finally, C121 replacement
Hello Dom, thanks for all your videos so educational.
If you had to compare this Nektar controller to the Behringer X-touch (in the same price range) what would be your choice and why?
(Thanks in advance for the response)
I have the x-touch and it now ( in the last year) works as it should with channel selection and colours per channel. I have all sorts of shortcuts setup for adding diff types of tracks on the f keys, and struck to studio settings etc. it does a load of stuff this seems to not do However getting it to control plugins is not good. If I went cs12 I would loose a lot of features, but gain plug-in control. Maybe buy it as well
I had to buy a magnetic for xtouch as the surface is wrong for Cubase. Once in place you cannot see it
Hmmm....I always said I would never replace my beloved CC121, but this thing is extremely tempting...
Thank you Master...you are the ONE for all of us....!!!
wow clip gain (tm) ftw!
I hope it does well and they come out with fader expanders dreaming. lol.
Thanks for another great review Dom! I picked one up a few days ago, would you know why my Cubase stock plugins aren't mapped with the colours like yours? Perhaps I need Cubase 14 rather than 13? Thanks
6:24 😍
20:16 😍😍
So this should also work with Nuendo?
Been using this a couple of months and I love it! The only thing that annoys me is that you have to press the eq button first to get access to the pre-section. It slows down my work flow. Tried to map the pre-section to the user pages, it works but after a while some mappings dissappear. Could be a cubase problem.
Finally a company who take Cubase serous.
- Seems interesting.
I don't use any controllers but have been thinking about it for some time. I look at this video and the main thing that makes me worried about heading down the controller path is that I see a lot of latency between the movement of the controller knob/fader and the response of the software. Is what I;m seeing here the norm?
Oh no! Dom, why are you doing this to me? I just sold my mackie mcu pro because i wasn‘t really using it that much, but the way you demo this controller i am struggling.😅
I really enjoy the CS12 concept, but what stops me from buying it is the fact that I cannot control my synths/instruments as my channel insert plugins. If that would be possible, this would be THE controller!! Unfortunately it’s not (yet??).
Is it possible records in real time clip gain ? ( my dream) can we assign shortcuts at will? and can we use the cc121 in series :) merci
It is the best one... by faaaarrrrrr
has anyone compared this to the SSL UF1?
Hey Dom, an off-topic Cubase question. My midi controllers are connected and appear in the midi set up but i cant send any midi data when I press any keys.
They were working fine then stopped. Not sure if i unintentionally did something to cause this. Can you help?
I’m a Logic user and apparently the CS12 is just as good in that setup.
Maaaan, no jog wheel?
Watch the whole video ;)
Better than metagrid? We need a comparison
I`m not shure if I make a change 🙂
Great review and demonstration as usual. What is funny as I’ve actually had the soft tube console one MkIII for a couple of months now and I was about to get rid of it because as great as it is, it’s just not as intuitive as going to the mouse.
So I decided to try the CS 12 and ordered one and even after one week I think it’s amazing. Honestly, a game changer.
Now the idea was, I was going to keep the CS 12 if it worked out and then sell them MKIII and get most of my money back.
But …
Now softube has created an update and it has some interesting features that I think would make it even a better companion with the panorama CS 12. So these companies are taking all my money!! lol.
Soft tub added a mode where you can control limit control for specific faders.
For instance, maybe only on your sub groups, which is something I do a lot. That means I don’t have to worry about the other 30 tracks if I don’t want to, and just use the softube faders on my buses, which is Pretty awesome for creative mixing.
I'm in - price is very reasonable.
Is it just me or does the UI look a bit laggy?
imagine if it had an extender
I was waiting for your review on it. Now i have to somehow convince my girlfriend that I really need to spend that money.. damn it!
But thanks for the review!
@@Wannabewotan your gf should not have any control of your money! Man up
Can you please ask her if we may talk here and perhaps become friends as well? Thanks
@@whome3911 Above all, it was a joke.
But I think that in an equal relationship you should decide on major purchases together, and this value is undoubtedly a major purchase.
I tried it, had all kinds of connection issues. Sent it back. MacOS Sonoma, Cubase 13.
What interface are you using? Just wandering if that makes a difference in the user experience? It looks like a great option at a great price point but I want to avoid connection issues also. M2 Macbook CB14
if only they added loop section in Cubase this controller would monopolize the market.
The best Controller for Cubase are CC121!
'Undo' should be located somewhere else entirely from the other buttons. Too easy to go for the transport 'Stop' and accidentally hit the 'Undo'. Have this problem with my SSL Nucleus 2, where Undo and Save are close together. Too easy to hit Undo accidentally and not know it.
Dooopeness at its max!
I wonder if you can use the SSL360, the hardware mixer. I think UF something?? UC1??
We can clearly hear the buttons when you click them, is that a problem? Maybe sotfer buttons would be more adequate?
Generic controllers are always generic compared to a custom interface like hardware should have.
Total gain changer
Really? 😂 a controller that has one controller only is the best? Are we in 2011 yet? Where are the faders . This is an attack against the more is more principle. The shortcuts do things i do on keyboard and with track pad on Logic Pro
Cheer up looks like you don’t need this..
Also I think in your haste I’m thinking you meant the word fader not controller in its second mention. Why the hurry..😂
Great controller, but here still waiting for a new CC 121 🥲
