    Please keep the videos going. I'm taking notes. I have an aluminum glider and I want to wrap it too. I am very keen to learn about balancing the ailerons (if you intend to wrap them).

      I will keep them coming! I have a few waiting to be edited 😀

    Thanks for making this. We have started wrapping our Cruzer too!. I had not wrapped anything before. It is turning out well. I am surprised how much the vinyl sticks to the aluminum. I think it sticks much harder than on something like a painted car. Makes lifting and repositioning a bit harder than what I see the car guys do. But after painting a plane, I do like wrapping better. No paint booth needed. No mess. Less expensive. Lighter....etc. Charlie

      Absolutely! I love the no-mess part of vinyl wrapping! I think different vinyls have different degrees of initial tack. My Cheetah wrap had very low initial tack, but was thinner vinyl than the vvivid. The vvivid is thicker, and has higher initial tack, making position changes more challenging. Good luck on your wrap!

    I really like that Color! It really POPS! When I get the 750 built I plan on having my brother paint it(He was with the USAF Thunderbirds and painted them) I plan on using vinyl graphics. Thinking Navy Blue and putting USN Seabee Graphis on it!

      Your lucky to have your brother with that skill set! Should be a huge savings! I think the vinyl graphics for everything else would be perfect! Good luck!

    I understand you can do seams with the knife-less tape, pulling it through both layers.

    • @mhilderbrand7693
      @mhilderbrand7693  8 месяцев назад

      Yes, you can pull through both layers. I tried this a few time on the top and bottom fuselage pieces, it worked on some of the seam. Other parts of the seam, where you lift up the edges, had stretched making the perfect seam… not so perfect. More practice on my part is needed.

    Nice, thanks for the video. I suspect there will be a weight savings as well.

    • @richardpierce7994

      Scott. I checked into it and a square meter of 3M vinyl weighs about 150 grams.

    • @mhilderbrand7693
      @mhilderbrand7693  8 месяцев назад +1

      There should be some weight savings compared to paint. Just like there are different types of paints, there are also different thicknesses of vinyls out there, although probably a negligible weight difference between the vinyls…

    Looks great. We are starting our wrap on our Super Duty now. Do you think corrosion under the wrap would be an issue? I painted the fuselage white and doing vinyl stripes. I am thinking about just wrapping my wings without a base coat.

    • @mhilderbrand7693
      @mhilderbrand7693  8 месяцев назад

      That is a really good question regarding the possible corrosion under the wrap. Truthfully, I don’t know. My thought is that it won’t corrode under the wrap, but time will tell. In the car world, from my research, wraps really need good paint to stick. It has been known that wraps can take paint off if it is not good paint, not applied correctly, or partially peeling, etc. Painting first may help ease your mind regarding the corrosion element 😀. I wish I had a better answer.

    What is the name of that green? My PA-28-160 is painted the same color and I need to wrap it! Great Job!

    Looks great but how will you inspect in a few years for "smoking" loose rivets? I fly a 601XLB and I have had to replace a few smoking rivets. With this wrap would they not be blind and undetectable?

    • @mhilderbrand7693
      @mhilderbrand7693  5 месяцев назад

      Not worried about a few smoking rivets. I plan to change wrap ever 2-3 years. We will take a hard look how the aluminum and fasteners look at that point. All critical items I won’t cover.

    I would love to come look at you airplane sometime if that would be ok. I am building a rudder kit in Lakeland next weekend with the Zenith people and I am struggling on which of the kits is for me. That and it would be nice to meet some Zenith people in the area. Doug in Bradenton.

      Well…. If I don’t keep messing up! 😂. I am hoping $1000! You can get this wrap cheaper, I just need to do more homework.

    How much does a 500sqft roll weigh? Or how much do you think this adds to the build?

    • @mhilderbrand7693
      @mhilderbrand7693  5 месяцев назад

      It doesn’t weigh much 😊. I will try and make a video soon showing what a piece weighs. In order to weigh a descent size piece, I need to waste it. So my piece won’t be too big, but you could do the math to figure out approx. 500sq ft

      @@mhilderbrand7693 Thanks for the reply. I was just wondering if there was any realized benefit to wrap vs paint vs naked.
      Looks great BTW.
