Thank you once again for a wonderful day out.... at your expense !¬I know we have had a few Golds this past week or two, - but you deserve one for the wonderful pleasure you give to us all.
I try to watch a bit of news or other videos .....and anxiety builds.....than I find cruising the cut, any vlog, and I feel ok. I can relax, cruising the cut and all's right with the world.
In the process of watching all your vlogs for the third time (surely I get an anorak for that) and have now added my husband and my uncle to your fan club. Of course the scenery sells itself but your commentary sells the lifestyle. You have a gift! We feel privileged to share in it. Good luck and we hope to see you one day, on the cut- our boat is being built and fitted during the Autumn-Winter months and we hope to be 'wetted' by March '17.
I grew up on the Siletz River (Siletz Indian Reservation). For my 75th birthday my sisters bought me a small plane flight from the Pacific Ocean to the source. It is very winding. It was the best gift I have ever been given.
+CruisingTheCut no worries! interesting also to watch a video from TheFlyingReporter too and with that, learn a little about you and your profession. No wonder you're a natural infront of the camera. You have a presence and a manner of which you present which has gripped the audience, including myself. Thank you for all the good work, off of RUclips as well as on. Admittedly I don't recall seeing you on the telly because I don't tend to watch much news. I know only of 1 other reporter and I watch his channel on RUclips too, Jonathan Pie lol.
Beautiful Plane...Very nice....wow...you can't imagine all those locks and just how close and many they are until you see them from the air....and just how small the canal actually is...thanks for that look...
A grand day out by the looks of things and great to see my home county looking so green -- thanks for making this very enjoyable vlog. It's not what you know but who you know eh ;-)
Hatton Locks certainly looks Spectacular from the air - ( looks like a 'piece-o'-cake' :-) And amazing how orderly and tidy Braunston looks from the air - (but not from the boat) Nice one - As usual ;-)
Hi David, I'm 69 retired one of my life time passion has been Aviation, and when in 2002 we moved from Cambridge to a village near Huddersfield West Yorkshire I found what it was like to get up close and see the canal boats. So I found John (The Flying Reporter) on RUclips and have been watching his videos, catching up as fast as I can, so how wonderful it was to find the one of you both looking at the canals from the air, also that big hole near Leicester. From that video I have found your channel, it's great to see first hand what it's like to be involved with the narrow boats. So will be watching your videos from the first until I catch up. We are lucky because there are canals around West Yorkshire and over into Lancashire. Kind Regards Stewart 🎥
Well this is a turn up for the books. As an aircraft owner myself, and one made by the same company as the one John flies, I often visit his excellent Vlog. And here, I can now watch BOTH excellent Vlogs all welded into one!!
That was excellent, watching you chug through the canals you can't see the land around them, this shows the towns and other things that make the scenery more interesting
I did my pilot training on the same type of aircraft (long ago), and indeed remember first time flying over my own house i knew exactly where i was bus could not see it. Spotting from the sky is something you really have to learn. Some shots (like the blue boat navigating around the corner) where really very nice to see from the air.
An interesting vlog, you did a great job of blending the canal voyage in with the flight. I am glad it was you up there I like being closer to the ground, I like your opening comment “ up up and away” we had a very catching series of commercials here in the 70s “ up up and away with TAA” a regional airline lost in corporate mergers.
Came across your channel and VLOGs due to being a subscriber of "the flying reporter". I have a big interest in aviation but absolutely no interest in canals or boating!!! HOWEVER, I am somehow now hooked on your VLOGS, working my way through from the start. I am envious that you have found the peace and tranquillity that some of us (me) only dream of. I wish I had the ability/guts/confidence/money or whatever it takes, to quit teaching and live this kind of lifestyle, maybe not in a narrow boat but......... anyway I like your style and have subscribed. All the best! Andrew.
As you British say...Brilliant! Quite the visual feast from the air, yet another perspective. I knew the countryside you putt through was beautiful seeing it thru the various canals you venture on, but again seeing it from the air is just breathtaking. Good Show David. Thanking you for sure. :>
I loved this one. An excellent view of the marina. It looks busy, and seeing the boats lined up on both sides also. Great camera work and excellent quality again. You can even see the drop in water levels at each lock ! I'll check out your friend's page as well. Thanks for sharing.
Haha. Back when I worked in TV we sometimes would go up in helicopters if there was a big story - and do so with the side doors removed so we could lean out a bit for a better shot. Now THAT was interesting!
Fantastic! I was absolutely not expecting this, what a treat to see it all from the air - and even better when I think I can recognize several spots from the earlier vlogs. I have to say, though - while the view is spectacular up there, I think I prefer the view from the canals!
That was a pleasant and enjoyable vlog. Was great to see all the places that i know as a holiday boatsman (i have had many holidays on the canals ) Next year i'm doing the Leicester ring again starting out at Warwick and i just cannot wait to get back on the cut. Once again thank you for your vlogs i have seen them all now and enjoyed every one of them.
Loved the collaboration you two did. You mentioned something about the idea of camping across Europe on Jon's video. Although you wanted to stay close to family, which is understandable. Maybe, some day down the road huh? My family did it in 1986 in a van, oh the memories!
Wonderful video, thanks for sharing. Wonderful views from above. It's a shame to see that so much of the countryside has been built on with huge amounts of houses!
+CruisingTheCut I understand the small villages, but in some places in your video you could clearly see large areas of newbuilds that haven't been there very long. Such a shame that I countryside is getting eaten up by newbuilds of houses.
Well that must be a first for a narrowboater, what brilliant weather too. You did'nt wait for refreshments at Hatton then not surprising . I suppose you have a pal who skipper's a submarine too, well another different angle, well done as always
Thank you for providing this perspective. I love gathering lots of information about an area, and adding thieve views to your own really helps fill things in. (Adding it to the knowledge gained from your hand drawn map :).)
Still going back and discovering all of your older videos, David. This one was smashing!! I've been pilot since 1989, and we sold our plane to buy our RV, so this one was extra special for me.
You might well enjoy Jon's own channel then, link in the video description - you've probably found it already - very well produced flight videos; he works in TV news just as I used to so he knows how to put a video together :-)
We certainly did subscribe, and the very first video we watched was the one where you flew along. Hope your Mars bar commitment wasn't just for the camera. ;-)
This time around, David, I came from TFR's video instead of the usual other way round from other channels! His video came as Recommended first when I was searching for Canal Winter Mooring videos (??) Really exciting to see the trip from your perspective now.
Quite an Alexandria Quartet, or rather a Braunston Duo, this coupling of vlogs. I certainly like your way of doing this, classic, informing, yet entertaining.
Nice landing too - any landing you can walk away from is a good landing. This vid made me wonder if there are British-based small aircraft manufacturers around, or if most private planes are from the States. I've flown a Piper Arrow and Cessna 172, but have never been to Britain and know little about their civilian aviation situation.
Hi David, just progressing through your back catalogue when it came here. Talk about content variety. And I just recently read your bio, no wonder your videos are so good.
G'day from Australia. After a few random videos, I've started at the start and been enjoying the channel immensely. Very early on, I downloaded Google Earth KML files from the Canal & River Trust open data site. (Canals, bridges and locks) It makes it very easy to track (stalk) you from above. The aerial views in this episode made me smile as that's what I've been looking at for a week or so now. Between Google Earth itself, Street View and your videos, I'm having a delightful time touring the waterways. While here, I want to compliment you on the quality of the vlogs. I expected the early episodes to be a bit amateurish, but your previous career certainly shows through in the picture quality and the way you speak to the camera. All the best to you and your boat (it needs a name) from 10 hours in the future.
Thank you once again for a wonderful day out.... at your expense !¬I know we have had a few Golds this past week or two, - but you deserve one for the wonderful pleasure you give to us all.
What a kind thing to say, thank you :-)
Such a nice aerial perspective of the canals. Thanks for sharing!
I try to watch a bit of news or other videos .....and anxiety builds.....than I find cruising the cut, any vlog, and I feel ok. I can relax, cruising the cut and all's right with the world.

Good luck and we hope to see you one day, on the cut- our boat is being built and fitted during the Autumn-Winter months and we hope to be 'wetted' by March '17.
I think you get a medal for that! Having your own boat built must be so exciting, I hope it all goes well.
I grew up on the Siletz River (Siletz Indian Reservation). For my 75th birthday my sisters bought me a small plane flight from the Pacific Ocean to the source. It is very winding. It was the best gift I have ever been given.
WOW that was amazing glad you had a fantastic time!! thanx for sharing your day with us.
Friends in high places! Really enjoyed this one offering a different perspective :)
Well,that was amazing.Your just getting better and better.What can i say.Well done.More please.
Thanks
What an absolute pleasure to watch! I was thinking "maybe he's welded some wings onto his narrow boat with this one!" lol Brilliant stuff!
Haha, thank you
+CruisingTheCut no worries! interesting also to watch a video from TheFlyingReporter too and with that, learn a little about you and your profession. No wonder you're a natural infront of the camera. I was a local reporter so unless you were in Kent, Sussex or (very occasionally) London, you wouldn't have seen me. Cheers
I'm enjoying your vlog series immensely, thank you, the time has flown by, please keep going and cruise right past your 1 year anniversary :)
It has flown by, I agree!
Beautiful Plane...Very nice....wow...you can't imagine all those locks and just how close and many they are until you see them from the air....and just how small the canal actually is...thanks for that look...
Yes, you get a whole different sense of the canals up there.
Really enjoyed that and Jon's version. Thank you.
This looked amazing!! So cool
It was! Cheers :-)
I enjoyed this vid. What a great way to follow the canal
It was!
I really enjoyed this. Interesting contrast in travel speeds, but also in the feeling of involvement in the landscape.
Mmmm, good point and so true.
That was awesome! Thank you for the fabulous air views 👍🏻 good job x
Thank you!
Brilliant. Two of my interests combined in one video.
:-)
nice to see those areas from the air and the locks as well.
I think you owe him a trip on your boat.
A very complimentary view of the canals!
You nut but what a good one 🤔🇬🇧love it xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxccxxxxxx😉
A whole different perspective on canal cruising which I really enjoyed. Surprised that it took me four years to find this one.
A grand day out by the looks of things and great to see my home county looking so green -- thanks for making this very enjoyable vlog. It's not what you know but who you know eh ;-)
Quite literally, "friends in high places"
:-D Very good!
Hatton Locks certainly looks Spectacular from the air - ( looks like a 'piece-o'-cake' :-)
And amazing how orderly and tidy Braunston looks from the air - (but not from the boat)
Nice one - As usual ;-)
Yes, I liked how oval Braunston looked and how obviously raised up the village is :-)
Hi David, I'm 69 retired one of my life time passion has been Aviation, and when in 2002 we moved from Cambridge to a village near Huddersfield West Yorkshire I found what it was like to get up close and see the canal boats. Thank you for watching and I'm glad you liked the video. Hope you like the rest too!
Another fab video, really enjoyed it! Thanks again. Jenny
:-)
Well that was very different! Really enjoyed the flight. Don't things look different from up in the air!
Excellent David, very enjoyable different slant on things. :-)
Slant was certainly the word when we turned :-)
You never fail to deliver, bravo...
Thank you
Wow! Different but on topic and very good to watch. Thank you.
:-)
Well this is a turn up for the books. As an aircraft owner myself, and one made by the same company as the one John flies, I often visit his excellent Vlog. And here, I can now watch BOTH excellent Vlogs all welded into one!!
One of the best guest episodes 👏 everything looks so majestic from up there without the gory details
That was excellent, watching you chug through the canals you can't see the land around them, this shows the towns and other things that make the scenery more interesting
Not what I expected hope you enjoyed your flight interesting seeing various areas of the canals from the air
Cheers
Yes, it was fun, thanks.
That was super!!! I really liked it.
Perfect! I follow both of these channels, excellent teamwork!
Thank you. It was a fun day.
Thank goodness those wings were still attached...
😊😊😁😂
Really enjoyed the aerial view, Thank you.
:-)
Great vlog... So interesting to see familiar sights from a totally different perspective
Thanks
excellent idea to do that video really good
Thank you.
What lovely fun! I’ll check out your friend the flying reporter’s channel.
I loved this one. When seeing them from above, it made the lock system much easier to understand. Great idea to do this, and great vlog as usual.
I see this vlog switched from the low to the high profile! This is awesome! 👍
I don't know how I missed this one, I'd thought I'd watched them all.
I did my pilot training on the same type of aircraft (long ago), and indeed remember first time flying over my own house i knew exactly where i was bus could not see it.
Spotting from the sky is something you really have to learn.

👍 lovey views great , thanks for sharing guys .
Cheers
Fantastic footage, you two pro's are in your element. I think a box of chocolates and a pint of Guinness should fit the bill!!
Nice cup of tea for me :-)
Now THIS was special...!!!

Thanks for this one. It was interesting and very enjoyable.
Happy Curising
I'm the secretary of our local flying club here in Nova Scotia, Canada, so this VLOG was particularly pleasing to me. Thank you. Very nice.
a very interesting video. as I like both boating and flying it was very interesting.
Came across your channel and VLOGs due to being a subscriber of "the flying reporter". I have a big interest in aviation but absolutely no interest in canals or boating!!! I was expecting this to be filmed with a drone! your braver than me !
Haha. Back when I worked in TV we sometimes would go up in helicopters if there was a big story - and do so with the side doors removed so we could lean out a bit for a better shot. Now THAT was interesting!
Amazing and as usual super interesting. Fantastic.

Had no idea you two knew each other! I watch the flying reporter all the time
Fantastic! I was absolutely not expecting this, what a treat to see it all from the air - and even better when I think I can recognize several spots from the earlier vlogs. I have to say, though - while the view is spectacular up there, I think I prefer the view from the canals!
Beautiful from air, ever so much more from narrowboat.
I did subscribe to the flying reporter though I've not yet been.
That was a pleasant and enjoyable vlog. Cheers Mark, have a great time next year
i will thanks David, i'm really looking forward to it, being out there chugging along at 3 miles an hour and taking in the scenery
Loved the collaboration you two did. You mentioned something about the idea of camping across Europe on Jon's video. Although you wanted to stay close to family, which is understandable. Maybe, some day down the road huh? My family did it in 1986 in a van, oh the memories!
Yes, that's why I ended up dismissing that idea. But maybe someday.
Seems so big at ground level. Insignificant whilst up in the clouds!
I like the new perspective.
Wonderful video, thanks for sharing. Wonderful views from above. It's a shame to see that so much of the countryside has been built on with huge amounts of houses!
We were flying over towns and villages though!! Look how much was green in between our destinations :-) (watch Jon's video for even more)
+CruisingTheCut I understand the small villages, but in some places in your video you could clearly see large areas of newbuilds that haven't been there very long. Such a shame that I countryside is getting eaten up by newbuilds of houses.
Perfect video, many thanks! 🇺🇸
Glad I found you through Jon's channel. Love your videos! Really interesting and different perspective on life in Britain.
Thanks for tuning in!
Loved the video! Great perspective!
Thanks Linda!
Greetings from Johannesburg, I am really enjoying your channel, am on 55 and looking forward the upcoming vlogs.
Very cool.......two for the price of one. Nice footage 👍
Thanks
Well that must be a first for a narrowboater, what brilliant weather too. You did'nt wait for refreshments at Hatton then not surprising .
I suppose you have a pal who skipper's a submarine too, well another different angle, well done as always
Haha, I do know some people who are qualified divers...
Good interview and scenery!😁
Thank you for providing this perspective. I love gathering lots of information about an area, and adding thieve views to your own really helps fill things in. (Adding it to the knowledge gained from your hand drawn map :).)
So enjoying your adventures. Delighted to have found your channel thanks to the Narrowboat Experience. 😀

Alas, I've gone off Mars bars since the chocolate formula was changed or somesuch. They just don't taste as nice these days. Sigh.
Such fun to watch...tks!😇
:-)
WOW! Boating at a different angle.
That as really cool thanks for sharing.
Cheers
that made a change, funny how it all looks different from the air, well done!!
The videography on this one is so good I can barely keep my phone steady to take a clip of anything
You could, of course, just rewatch it any time you want to see a clip. And the ads.
Awesome video! Thanks
Cheers
