Hey John, Dark Expert Vito may be the same person as "cool trainer" Vito in Ruby Sapphire and Emerald's Victory Road. He's one of the more notable NPCs from that game as he's the eldest son of, and strongest member of the Winstrate family. Even if they're not the same person, he's gotta be a reference to the original because they both use a Shiftry on their teams. Just thought you'd find that interesting :)
Is that Vito also an idiot? The Vito in PWT has an Absol that knows Psycho Cut. That's a damage-dealing Psychic-Type move, something that's completely useless in a battle where only Dark-Type Pokémon are allowed.
I remember playing PWT hundreds of times. I loved seeing the leaders you defeated in the lobby after the match. It was fun to see what they said and pretty neat to try to get interesting pairs to sit next to each other. That and trying to predict who would win the matches you weren't a part of was super fun. Thanks for bringing back some good memories!
B2W2 are the best Pokemon games ever made. It's absolutely mind-blowing how much content they have, and the majority of it is really good and fun content. None of the other main series games compare...
I tried playing the champions tournament in 2015 and was thrashed repeatedly. Didn't have much idea about EVs and setting up battles using status moves back then. I recently replayed the game and won the champions tournament in double battle. It was a 8 year long struggle and I am feeling very satisfied. Hey, John! Love your content. Here's a video idea for you... So I recently played through XD again for the first time in a decade and tried my hand at the post-game exclusive Orre Colosseum. I figured, eh...I'm older, wiser, and a much better pokémon player than I was then. Surely I can beat it, right? Haha, nope. 🙃 I got my a*s handed to me. Couldn't even beat the first round. I'd love to see you do a "How Easily Can I Beat the Orre Colosseum?" video. Smogon even described it as one of the, if not THE toughest in-game challenge in any pokémon game to date. So no shade if you use a generator. All the same, love your videos! Hope you'll consider my suggestion. 😁
Probably my favourite addition to any main series game, the fact you can face all leaders/champions with awesomely remixed themes was such a buzz as a kid, and also it was extremely competitive. I remember spending hours even days sometimes just to win one specific tournament. This was the peak of Pokémon for me.
As a person with 1 DS and no gen 4 Sinnoh games, going through the HELL that is Black Tower because its the only way to get Gible, will always be one of the worst experiences in these games.

I remember Veto! He's an Ace Trainer in Ruby/Sapphire/Emerald. There's that house right after Mauville that you can go to where you fight an entire family of trainers and they talk about how a family member of theirs is on their way to the Pokemon League. Once you get to Victory Road, you can find Ace Trainer Veto, though I don't remember his team. I think Veto's team in the PWT being made almost exclusively of Hoenn pokemon (besides for Honchkrow) is a reference to RSE Veto. What a neat little reference!
I have very fond memories of this game mode, especially because this was what made me really enjoy Triple Battles. I managed by the end of it to make a nearly full-on Sand team based around doing Triples, and because of the format, it always felt really nice being able to fight the important Trainers' full teams!
One day, I hope they implement this feature once more, accounting for Elite Four members, Kahunas, Trial Captains, and any other important trainer like N, Zinnia, hell, maybe even Skull and Aether admins/leaders.
I mean to be fair with Koga he was upgraded from gym leader to e4 member, and they didn't make an e4 tournament(which they could have used to supplement type masters dark type since dark was pretty exclusively an elite 4 type). As for iris I guess they didn't want her to show up in gym leaders as she wasn't one(and would just be a clone of drayden but with the opposite gender pokemon), but wanted to keep her as the champion a surprise?
I used to hate on BW/BW2. Unova was easily my least favorite game, mainly because I played it when I was young so I didn't appreciate the plot, and I also didn't like how the BW dex was entirely new mons that I didn't know. But now, revisiting Unova a decade later, I have much more of an appreciation for the games. BW/BW2 is chock full of side features that I didn't care to explore a decade ago. I regret hating on Unova so much. Such a feature rich region, and now look at how stripped down the games are. Pokemon today has no replay value.... I wish we could have games like gens 4 and 5 again
I have Black2 but haven't played it yet and your video really makes me think I should! I'm not good at competitive playing, but I might end up learning some of it because the World Tournament sounds like something I'd love to try
The PWT can be fun and it's the only place to get useful items and TMs. On the downside your potential victory is either make or break depending on what kind of match up you get against your opponents. In my experience its also kind of haxy.
Yep, as the Clefable master trainer (Alex) and the Dratini master trainer (Jirard) in Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. (See their FireRed/LeafGreen let's play as to why those pokemon were assigned to them)
I was never able to beat the champion tournament. As a kid this was the second Pokémon challenge I ran into. And the only one I never beat. Even after using action replay codes I still couldn’t beat it.
Doing this with the cracked out randomizer Pokémon is honestly so much fun. It can be just as easy as fighting an audino with snow warning or as hard as fighting a dragonite with pure power. It’s absolutely nuts. The movesets for the PWT battles don’t change though.
The PWT is such an awesome addition to B2W2. Definitely a big reason why they are my favorite games in the series. I know a lot more about battling than I did when I played Black Version 2 the first time, so I’ll be sure to check out the PWT next time I replay it!
This is the only reason I still play B2W2. I still go back to it to battle in the PWT. I loved it so much and it's the best post game challenge in my opinion
I'm pretty sure none of the dark-type trainers are in any other games, but it's fun you mentioned Impera because I made her the 7th gym leader in the region that I'm making.
I love the PWT, but I spent hours breeding a perfect Hydreigon, Metagross, and Gyrados, only to have them beat by a starfish. I deleted my safe file...but hey, I have a perfect Cloyster and Jellicent to beat up Misty with now! Loved the music.
(14:15) You don't understand. Cynthia has _two_ boss remixes in B2W2. Her normal post-game boss theme, _and_ an uptempo version just for the Pokemon World Tournament. (Incidentally, even her normal post-game boss theme is a faster arrangement of her theme from Gen 4 - between DPPt, BW, and B2W2, Cynthia's theme keeps getting faster...)
I actually recall doing this with a Ground type Trick Room based team, inspired by the Viridian Gym. When Giovanni led the Gym, his theme revolved around the Ground type. When Blue took over, according to Heart Gold and Soul Silver, he changed the theme to Trick Room. One of Giovanni's signature Pokémon, which Blue also used, was the Rhyhorn line. I recall my team consisting of Hippowdon, Excadrill, Golem, Rhyperior, Baltoy, and Claydol. It was in triple. I always led Excadrill at center, alongside Hippo and either Baltoy or Claydol. Excadrill would take advantage of Sand Rush to hit hard with Earthquake, and then Hippo could clean up with its own Earthquake, taking out Excadrill in the process, all the while Baltoy/Claydol would set up Trick Room for Golem or Rhyperior. Golem had Normal Gem Explosion while Rhyperior had rainbow coverage thanks in part to its Fang moves.
WHAT?! I had no idea the PWT was this packed with awesome! It partly my own fault, BW2 is probably the main series Pokémon game I've spent the least time with (a lot was going on in life when the game was new, and by the time I got back to it, XY was about to come out) Man, I wanna dive back in and try out these awesome modes

B2/W2 are the best main series games and this is a hill i’m more than willing to die on
The two statues in the lobby have a sword and a shield. It'd be funny if they were actually hinting gen 8 this far back
Ngl its the best feature in the franchise by far
now i only need to win the world leaders tournament 9 more times to unlock the champions tournament
It’s simple, I see Johnstone upload and I drop everything to watch.
I am looking forward to doing this my self i LOVE BW2! there my favorite games OF ALL TIME
I trust you but I trust your pf more
It’s so sad gen 5 didn’t have any ribbons... imagine the possibilities.
Finally 😭 👏
Favorite era NDS hgss plt and B2W2 were my world
Finally he's doing a challenge that I have actually done myself
Is it me or when you walked across the stage it sounded like the people were chanting “Larry”?
I always wanted to beat the PWT but never could because I sucked at pokemon :)
now we know what you should do after crystal clear 👀
The Great Nate no :)
WooffleDee :(
YEP :)
Ludicolo 15 :D
I was never able to beat the champion tournament. As a kid this was the second Pokémon challenge I ran into. And the only one I never beat. Even after using action replay codes I still couldn’t beat it.
Doing this with the cracked out randomizer Pokémon is honestly so much fun. It can be just as easy as fighting an audino with snow warning or as hard as fighting a dragonite with pure power. It’s absolutely nuts. The movesets for the PWT battles don’t change though.
The PWT is the reason I never transfered my good Pokémon from Black 2 to another game. I need them to be able to replay the PWT.
The PWT is such an awesome addition to B2W2. Definitely a big reason why they are my favorite games in the series. I know a lot more about battling than I did when I played Black Version 2 the first time, so I’ll be sure to check out the PWT next time I replay it!
"Cilan" is supposed to sound like "Salon"?
I thought it was like "Silent" without the "t".
I thought it was see-lahn
Glad to see PUPY:) on here
Man this just adds on to the huge list of things that makes gen 5 so god
I used rotation battle to defeat these champions
This is the only reason I still play B2W2. I still go back to it to battle in the PWT. I loved it so much and it's the best post game challenge in my opinion
The champion cup is literally the game version of the masters 8
I guess Iris isn't in the Champion tournament because you're the representing Unova Champ now I guess?
Still waiting on that 5-star B2/W2 trainer card.
I love gen 5 content bc thats the gen i skipped and have been going back to play recently and wow i wish i didnt skip this era
I always had trouble fighting Jasmine 😂 The PWT is the best game mode ever imo. Definitely a huge fan service mode, and I love it
Prolly won’t see this but Cynthia’s pwt team is slightly different than her other theme in BW2
Thanks for uploading this, now I wanna replay my White 2 and get back to try the PWT for real. I also skipped it when the game initially was out.
Bro idk why but Johnstone’s thumbnails pop out for my eyes vs literally everything
Should definitely do the 24 hour Catch them All or the Professor Oak challenge for the BW2 games since you already did BW!
In case I saw flyers/floaters (looking at you Gliscor!) Excadrill carried Rock Slide
WHAT?! I had no idea the PWT was this packed with awesome!
It partly my own fault, BW2 is probably the main series Pokémon game I've spent the least time with (a lot was going on in life when the game was new, and by the time I got back to it, XY was about to come out)
Man, I wanna dive back in and try out these awesome modes
Gen 5 appreciation let’s GOOOOOOOOOOO
