Fun fact! The creators of the TMNT comic book tried to link their origin to Daredevil's. The canister that blinded him is supposed to be the same canister that mutated the turtles and Splinter
@BakaYoshiYT It was always that Splinter was Master Yoshi's pet rat which learned martial arts from watching him and was mutated when trying to clean toxins off of four baby turtles. The '80s cartoon was the only one that made Splinter human first.
to explain the plot holes...it was more loosely based on the Eastman & Laird Comic and the show combined. Casey Jones, the back story details, Yoshi and Splinters immigration to America were form the comics. The turtles personalities were from the show
I love how no one is concerned at all when Casey flips the switch on the garbage truck and straight up murders Shredder after he's been totally disarmed. I mean, Shredder survived, but no one knew that at the time.
I kinda want to see the first movie again after seeing this review. Jim Hanson did some awesome work making the turtle costumes that has never been outshined since the other movies came into place.
when he makes the Casey Jones looking like Jason's homosexual Canadian brother, he passed on a golden opportunity to use the scene where Donitello (spelling?) calls Casey a claustrophobic, and Casey says "I've never even looked at another man before"........that would've been golden!!
I gotta agree with you, man. The Turtles were the SHIZZ-NIT! I had the toys, the movie, and watched the show on a regular basis. Who knew mutated reptiles could be so effing awesome? The first movie was good, too.
He doesn't just trips. Splinter catches the staff thing in the nunchuck and that's how he's throws him off so it makes a tiny bit more sense than that.
If they're going to make a reboot on Ninja Turtles, they should have April in the jumpsuit and also have the Technodrome, Beebop, Rocksteady, Krang, the Rat King, etc.
faithful to how they interact with each other. At least they got splinter down well. Another thing is with the Shredder. The Shredder was not some whiny, piss-poor excuse for a villain, the true Shredder was sadistic, dark, and very strong. He could take down the turtles by himself and gives them severe brutality doing it. April's another disappointment; April is a strong female character who used to work for doctor stockman but after the incident, works over at her uncle's antique shop.
In Shredder vs. Turtles battle 1, it was a clear student-level vs. teacher-level fight. There was no way they could win that one. That was an iron rule for as long as martial arts was put into movies back in China :D
Same here, I was one of the big fans for the Ninja Turtles. Though, now that I am older, I am kinda agree with Doug when I think about how weird the Ninja Turtles are. But I still like them.
@cqbspartan Vader's helmet was inspired by the German shock trooper helmets used in World War 1, even his respirator facemask was based off the gas masks. But the arts and style of the Jedi and the Sith were inspired by the Samuari.
Preachin' to the choir, brother. When I'm in a bad mood, I just watch a Nostalgia Critic review. What, haven't you heard of the healing power of laughter? (Couldn't resist a Jack Nicholson Joker plug). But yea, this guy is fuckin awesome. Rips movies the new ones they so rightly deserve.
No, but he was in the 2003 series (which is mostly based on the comics). The Utroms are a species of aliens that look like brains with faces and tentacles, and they were what Krang was inspired off of. They made him an Utrom in a mechanical human suit in the 2003 series. It actually made more sense for him to be an Utrom, because he died 3 times in the comics, one of the deaths being from decapitation. They also couldn't have gotten away with that happening to a real human in a kid's show.
Casey Jones "Jason's gay Canadian brother"? Well, the critic was right about one thing: the actor playing Casey was actually a Canadian named Elias Koteas.
@spidermansidekick1 in terms of the real world yes it is but if we look at the Incredible Hulk that was created when Bruce Banner got hit by a Gamma bomb. In real life Gamma would kill but in Stan Lee's world it creates a powerful monster. I guess I can't see it that way with Splinter's origin, I just prefer the idea of him being human who mutated into a rat because I think it cuts better. I also know that in the comics April was a lab assistant not a reporter. Which do you prefer?
There were two versions.. one was a typical hostess pie dyed green, full of vanilla pudding.. the other was a normal hostess pie crust, but full of GREEN pudding..
AVGN is awesome because people can relate to him and that he's not that into it. He doesn't try too hard, but it's still funny, which is why I love him. NC is a bit too into it when he reviews, but that's why he's awesome. Both of them are great once in a while.
I'd agree with that, except I'd say it wasnt really the AVGN who reviewed it. It was more James himself because he wasnt really in character when he reviewed it. Also the things he comments on are pretty hard not to poke fun at (what you listed) but he created his own jokes around it and I wouldnt call the Critics TMNT3 review an actual review. It was more a mental breakdown.
Not to mention Gummi bears from DISNEY! (Both had 1960s voices..Gummis had June Forya, Bill Scott and others and the Toitles had Joan Gerber, but that was it along with the more modern ones like young avctor Townsend (like that first name) Coleman and one who started around 1970s Cam Clarke. Seems a lot of these (Smuerfs, with Foray and Lucy Blsis) had a lot of the Bugs/Flintstones era voices along with the ones. Gotta eat, you know, I guess
fun fact for the hell of it. Shredder was created by the TMNT Creaters when one was doing the dishes and started cleaning the cheese grater and put his hand inside. Not kidding. That and TMNT was a parody of a few things popular at the time, including that samuri rabbit thing who i cant remember. also the first issue of TMNT they kill the Shredder. Its bad ass.
In truth the movie was a giant mess. I did enjoy it, but only because Bob and John had a good chemistry together. Hoskins HATED the movie and says it was the worst thing he's ever been a part of. The film is a mess but its a fun mess. The Critic is just poking fun at the way the film makes no sense.
Actually, Splinter named the turtles after painters because on that day he had found a book about them on the sewers, and in the lack of better idea, picked the names from the book.
What pissed me off most about the TMNT movies is they had Splinter mutate from a rat. The way I choose to remember it was how the cartoon potrayed it, Splinter was Homato Yoshi, turning into Splinter after being exposed to the mutagen ooze. That way, its not lame, a stupid rat doesnt learn kung fu watching his master and the grudge between Hamato Yoshi (Splinter) and Oroku Saki (Shredder) will always exist.
Shredder wasn't a rip off a Vader. Kevin Eastman, came up with the idea for the character by wearing a cheese grater over his and top of his hand and first half of his forearm.
Old Critic is like a tame AVGN. Classic Critic is like the internet embodied. Our guide to the film industry. New Critic is like George Lucas without Special Editions, but still overblown with greenscreens, actors, sketches, awful jokes. Someone we know is bad, but we still can't look away because it's the Critic.
You rule. This is more proof that creative people can make entertaining reviews the same thing without ripping each other off, unlike some no-talent hacks I could name.
I never liked that Rapheal lost one of his sais. I always wondered why he didn't just throw a shuriken star. They had them in the cartoons, so as kids we would probably have believed it!
@CoolVids19 That's what the cartoon says, but this movie is also based on the ORIGINAL Mirage comics. In the comics, Splinter was a rat to begin with. The ooze mutated whatever it touched, but it would make you more intelligent. So yeah, the cartoon and the movie were obviously different in the origins.... REALLY DIFFERENT...
@JReed1985 I prefer the April from the comics, she was a stronger charecter who learned martial arts and fought along side the Turtles. She was only a lab assistant for one issue before Baxter Stockman tried to kill her. I like NC reviews, but it bugs me he never acknowledges the comics. He considers himself a huge fan but seems to only refer back to the 1987 series.
@mattiathekaiju I just dont like that whole concept. I refer to know Splinter as Hamato Yoshi, so Shredder has an ongoing reason to hate him and vice versa and the Turtles and Splinter alike will have the ongoing common goal of turning Hamato back to normal.
All I can say is this...the 1987's turtles personalities was truly an insult to the original comic book in itself!! The freaking comic book that it came out with, the personalities were just not...right... I mean Leonardo is the leadership type whose also a hard-ass, Raphael is truly a rebel whose reckless and doens't give a lick for authority, Donatello is the genius in the group, and Michaelangelo is well...Mikey. They quarrel with each other an awful lot, at least the '03 version was more
One of the big problems I had with the first Turtles movie is Splinter's origin, no one could learn martial arts from watching someone and a rat doesn't have that much intellect. I preferred the idea of Splinter being a human originally who became a rat. The actress who played April in the sequels was much hotter
@spidermansidekick1 yeah I remember the new series of the Turtles has April as a lab assistant but I guess I somewhat prefer April when she's the vulnerable reporter. I'm too getting heavily into NC but when he reviewed Mortal Kombat I new that he's no fan of the series like I am. I don't always agree with him but he's fun to watch like AVGN.
The foot ninja were more advanced in the comic than the freaking '87 show and the movies. They advanced as time goes on to look like those bad ass samurai dudes with longer blades. Casey Johns was severely downplayed; Casey was a man with a heart of gold whose a bit of a klutz at times. Bitterhead was also another character that was not introduced that should've been. Same with the utrons and Karai, the Shredder's adopted daughter. Bottom line, I'm done with that-other-show!
@KCJ506 I know mate, I just think it's a little far fetched that it's a rat learning martial arts as it's not how a human learns martial arts. It made more sense that Splinter was a human who learnt martial arts before he became a rat.
3 live action 1 animated. wen this movie was running i saw it three times...because EVERY birthday party i was invited included a trip to this movie...or was it 4 time? i dont remember...
THAT was NOT Splinter "sticking out his foot" and "tripping" Shredder. That was frigging brilliant, having the sensei defeat the villain simply with a nunchuck. The only thing I've ever disagreed with the Nostalgia Critic on =\
In the beginning you show a comic book at 0:10 . I think you've got the original comics confused with the TMNT adventures Comics. they're very different. The Turtles started out as a dark comic, and then became a comedic cartoon. this movie stayed loyal to the dark comics but had some elements from the cartoon. but this is still a funny video.
4:07, I'd say that Casey Jones actually looks like Geddy Lee from Rush, which as I think about it isn't too far from NCs remake about Jason's homosexual Canadian brother. BTW I'm actually a Rush fan, but yeah.
i thought that this movie was really weird when i first saw it as a kid because i had watched the original show and thought "wait, wasn't splinter originally a human?" I couldn't focus on the movie because i trying to figure it out

"If this movie was done today, chances are they'd turn them all into giant computer generated images". FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCCCCCCCCCCCCC......
Michael BAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYYYYY!!!!!!!
***** Oh, the entire city of Providence agrees with me.
1:58: "OH, COME ON!!"
cAN'T GET ENOUGH OF THESE NOSTALGIA REVIEWS!
What's the name of those Japanese vests?
What's so hot about April O'Neil's yellow jumpsuit, anyway?
Him spitting out the cookies remains to be one of my favorite early NC moments.
I don't know why but that one line "Alright April's gonna kick some ads" really funny also his face after.
How so?
to explain the plot holes...it was more loosely based on the Eastman & Laird Comic and the show combined. Casey Jones, the back story details, Yoshi and Splinters immigration to America were form the comics. The turtles personalities were from the show
Oh boy in the last second with this information you saved me before I could make this horrbile mistake to comment with "but he is back."
I love how no one is concerned at all when Casey flips the switch on the garbage truck and straight up murders Shredder after he's been totally disarmed. I mean, Shredder survived, but no one knew that at the time.
Ninjas: DURDURDURDURDURDURDURDURDURDURDURDURDURDURDURDUR
Ninja: Dur dur dur dur dur!
*cymbal*

First Ninja Turtles movie is one of my favorite movies ever =) Here's how I view the movies:
TMNT>TMNT (3D Animated)>TMNT2>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>TMNT3
what are your thoughts on the 2003 series
He doesn't just trips. Splinter catches the staff thing in the nunchuck and that's how he's throws him off so it makes a tiny bit more sense than that.

I'm guessing the baby turtle who said "pizza" is Mikey. AND HE'S SO CUTE, in a weird way. The live action still freaks me out.
FYI at the end he didn't trip, he flipped over the shredder with the nunchuks and landed him in the garbage compactor.
In Shredder vs. Turtles battle 1, it was a clear student-level vs. teacher-level fight. There was no way they could win that one.

Mr Nostalgic Critic. are you one of the rotten tomatoes critic's? because you should be if you're not. your Batman and Robin review was priceless.
There were two versions.. one was a typical hostess pie dyed green, full of vanilla pudding.. the other was a normal hostess pie crust, but full of GREEN pudding..
that jumpsuit was hot but it's unrealistic to expect the movie-adaptation-of-the-comics to be anything like the cartoon..
AVGN is awesome because people can relate to him and that he's not that into it. He doesn't try too hard, but it's still funny, which is why I love him.

Considering he's already done Ninja Turtles, I personally think an old vs new on Biker Mice From Mars would be good.

5:58 I LITERALLY PISSED MYSELF LAUGHING WHEN I SAW THIS AS A KID XD AND AGAIN JUST PISSED MYSELF AS AN ADULT I FREAKIN LOVE THE FIRST TMNT
Actually, Splinter named the turtles after painters because on that day he had found a book about them on the sewers, and in the lack of better idea, picked the names from the book.
@frenzyXprime its kinda hard to explain, i just said that because he made a shaft reference in the video
What pissed me off most about the TMNT movies is they had Splinter mutate from a rat. I don't think it was the fact that Splinter was a puppet, but Splinter is old, and mostlikely couldn't fight as well as the turtles could.
@Bauglir100
I know.; I was just makin' sure what The Nostalgia Critic said was actually what happened.
What do you think the turtles do if they came across Gamera?
Shredder wasn't a rip off a Vader. Kevin Eastman, came up with the idea for the character by wearing a cheese grater over his and top of his hand and first half of his forearm.

@xJoeEDangerouslyx
Sure, I didn't expect the Yoda-Dooku-duel, but it could've been a tiny little more complicated fight.
"we still get to see her in her yellow jumpsuit... OH COME ON!"
lol just spat what i was eating onto my screen
All I can say is this...the 1987's turtles personalities was truly an insult to the original comic book in itself!!

5:09 is comedy gold!!!!
@AtlantaCommercials yeah. it sounds different, but that´s because it was one of his first reviews.
I love how they don't even take off the mask when they wear disquises.
now that he mentions it, what was the shredder's objective?
Just keep clicking 2:20 in this video for the best time of your life.
I wish he would have pointed out the relationships and character development of the turtles, April and Casey.
6:00.; Splinter didn't stick his foot out. He used a set of numb-chucks.
Yellow jumpsuit would have looked rather ridiculous in a real-life Net York. o_O

I think turtle pies had green filling. They were actually pretty good. : )
iove splinter in this movie..they put alot of heart on his animation..to me splinter was the best
@KCJ506 I know mate, I just think it's a little far fetched that it's a rat learning martial arts as it's not how a human learns martial arts. It made more sense that Splinter was a human who learnt martial arts before he became a rat.
WAIT A MINUTE!
"They're so tight they couldn't talk" was it? So it means... that THESE are Pyro's ancestors?
Can't wait to get those on Blu-ray. Even though the third one is not great but still fun to laugh about it.
"I'm going to sit down and review the movies, with you, as you're watching it with me."
Isn't that basically what he always does?
3:39.; "Pizza... Pizza...".
I so need to have my son say that as his first 2 words.
The only thing I've ever disagreed with the Nostalgia Critic on =\
NC was hilarious whenever he looked to the side of the camera as if he were actually watching the movie.
I know THAT. I mean in the third movie, they traveled through time and ended up in Japan. I know the franchise itself is American.
@gaaara4ever That one is too recent. I think his cut off date is 2002, or maybe even earlier.
lol its crazy how in the scene where ralph walks around NY with a coat on and no one sees that thats a turtle lmaooo
Micheal Bay:*trollface*
"Problem?"
Those muffled ninja voices sounded like someone bound and gagged Statler and Waldorf
In the beginning you show a comic book at 0:10 . I think you've got the original comics confused with the TMNT adventures Comics. they're very different. "We pissed our pants with joy" LOL
@tencents6 That comments I posted to you was an accident. I wanted to cancel it, but I clicked post by mistake. Dang RUclips
One of his oldest but best reviews.
"it tasted like splooge but we didn't care"
LOL
4:07, I'd say that Casey Jones actually looks like Geddy Lee from Rush, which as I think about it isn't too far from NCs remake about Jason's homosexual Canadian brother. BTW I'm actually a Rush fan, but yeah.
@NinjaRacoonDelta2 He was only a human in the original cartoon. In the comics, movies, and 2003 cartoon he was an oridinary rat beforehand.
@JReed1985 That was actually his origin in the comics.
5:08 - The ninjas that can't talk. :D
I practically cried laughing at the 'tight ninja suits' part
i thought that this movie was really weird when i first saw it as a kid because i had watched the original show and thought "wait, wasn't splinter originally a human?" I couldn't focus on the movie because i trying to figure it out
Evil kitchen utensil named Shredder.
Greatest. Line. EVER.
I always thought the 'without honor' speech he gave before he killed Shredder made up for the lack of fighting.
Looking at these 80s movies (I am not old enough to remember the 80s) I can tell how much the Japanese scared the Americans. I mean, all the bad guys are asians, and it was the same case with robocop and some other 80s movies that I remember.
