- This video is aimed at intermediate level to advanced students. It shows you how to do a type of dodging movement which I call an L-Shape Dodge which involves retreating from an attack then side stepping the attackers follow through.
This video is part of a series on sparring drills, where I suggest practice drills to improve sparring techniques, combinations, strategies, footwork etc. The sparring drills are mainly focussed on Taekwon-Do free-sparring but can also be used for kickboxing or any similar martial art.

I am preparing for the Taekwondo ITF Tournament . This Tournament will be held in Barselona in November in Spain.
Hi Sir, very good explanation. Just to value add to it I believe it’s important to explain that in this type of dodge you need to finish in an L shape stance with the rear leg carrying most weight (70/30) and also to try and identify which side to dodge from in regards to the kick received from the other player eg. Inside of a side kick , outside of a front kick (could turn into a twisting kick but less risky) , inside of a downwards kick moving inside /out, outside of a downwards kick moving outside /in etc . Same with direct line punches eg . Outside of a jab or cross . Everything is risky when dodging however becoming invincible is something all practitioners strive for .
Thank you for the videos
Taekwon
*side stepping with a side kick counter most of the time works well when dodging with L stance and counter with a leading middle range side kick . Definitely works when dodging sidekicks from inside with a leading counter sidekick
There are no players in Taekwondo. We are fighters.
