    This unit can be used as a stand alone MPC also. It is not just a midi controller. The sounds are built in.

    @bigberg3k A decent pitch shifter VST plugin in Maschine used alongside the sample tuning can have more or less the same effect as timestretching. Though quality of the results may vary. What most strikes me as a big plus for the MPC studio controller is portability. Even the Maschine Mikro controller is unnecessarily thick, with unnecessarily large buttons. And the big plus for Renaissance is built-in audio interface.

    Choke all playing sampler voices feature ("panic button": Shift + Mute)
    Sample play position indicator on the waveform (hardware and software)
    AutoWrite pinning feature
    Various bug fixes

    Yeah, for the price the Ren should have been able to go 100% stabdalone. The thing about hardware is that it is always more solid and longer lasting if you know how to take care of it (at least with my experience with good stuff 60s, 3000s, and 2000XLs still work great) but while Maschine still has hiccups and software quirks, the integration is really nice. The Studio seems awesome though, if it shapes up well I may pick it up.

    If the Maschine's next upgrade has timestretch, it will match the Akai cos it can do practically the same thing, plus the Maschine can map its hardware control knobs to native instruments or external plug-ins, a function that's very useful for production flow and live.
    I've used MPCs in the past and now Maschine. Akai's talking about the new product keeping the MPC workflow, etc, but to me, the workflow is not going to make a difference once you learn either one. Each has its pros and cons

  • @Swenglish
    @Swenglish 12 лет назад

    @bigberg3k Way I see it, different tools for different users/uses. I can do a lot with Maschine, hell, I can do a lot with Jeskola Buzz (it just takes more time, but I can get a lot more surgical with the mix and automation), it's all about getting to know the tricks and working around the limitations, as I'm sure it is been with MPC's as well (and though it seems the new MPC software will do away with a bunch of limitations, it's at the expense of the standalone aspect).

  • @Swenglish
    @Swenglish 12 лет назад

    @bigberg3k I have a Beat Thang. I also have a PreSonus FireStudio Mobile interface for my laptop. Both can be set to buffer size 256, which is virtually no latency, but PC with decent interface can take a lot more without glitching out than Beat Thang can. I keep my Beat Thang set to 512 for stability, which is low enough latency, but due to its other limitations it's mostly good for quick ideas. It's stand-alone and portable, which is a major selling point, but Maschine can do a whole lot more.

  • @TheDougSpot
    @TheDougSpot 12 лет назад

    Obviously this is a typo. They really meant that this is the MPD Studio, not MPC

  • @slalom1987
    @slalom1987 12 лет назад

    The update will include the following features and improvements:
    Offline time stretching and pitch shifting feature
    Transient Master
    Tape and Tube Saturators
    Save group with samples feature
    Improved handling of missing samples
    Revised select page (hardware) with access to note length
    Quick select events of a sound in a pattern (Shift + Select + Pad)
    Quick erase events of a sound in a pattern (Erase + Select + Pad)
    Pre-hear samples from the hardware browser before loading them
    And....

  • @Kevon420
    @Kevon420 12 лет назад

    The layering seems fantastic, and from what I have heard the build quality is rock solid. I hope the feature set is there in the beginning, and it is efficient and relatively bug-free for real track making. I like the Maschine but feature-wise it is still missing a few things here and there that are pretty big.

  • @roboedar
    @roboedar 12 лет назад

    So you gotta buy the Studio... Plus the audio interface to make up for lag... Plus your own computer... Plus your own DAW. Kinda wish they'd make stand alone setups...

  • @Swenglish
    @Swenglish 12 лет назад

    @UniqueBeast216 Some good points there, yes. As for locking to pro tools, do you by that mean running it as a plugin or some specific aspect of running it as a plugin? 'Cause it's been stated it'll run as a plugin, which I assume means it'll lock to the tempo and all that. I have limited experience with Pro Tools, though, it's not my DAW of choice, so I can't speak for its reliability.

  • @Swenglish
    @Swenglish 12 лет назад

    @UniqueBeast216 I've never been an Akai nor ProTools user, so I'm really not the person to ask about compatibility (though Google tells me you're not alone with the MPD/ProTools problem, so I'd imagine Akai might be aware at this point). I currently work in such wibbly-wobbly ways that I do most of my instrumental work in Maschine or Buzz and then do vocals/mixing and mastering in Studio One Artist and/or Adobe Audition. Should probably upgrade Studio One to the full version at some point.

  • @Swenglish
    @Swenglish 12 лет назад

    @bigberg3k I've heard very little of AraabMuzik, but what I've heard was not bad. He's certainly a skilled finger drummer. Haven't heard him get too creative with his samples though. But that might just be me not having heard his best examples of creative sampling.

  • @Dumiso

  • @philex216
    @philex216 12 лет назад

    It's not a MPD. A MPD is only a midi controller, you only control sounds from your DAW. This mpc studio has integrated sounds and can be used in your DAW (fl studio,protools,reason etc...) as a vst.

  • @Swenglish
    @Swenglish 12 лет назад

    @bigberg3k In general, no, but I think that has less to do with hardware vs software and more to do with musical trends and stricter views on sampling. Though I wouldn't necessarily deny that some people who get their hands on something that's easy to use end up not bothering to experiment with it. But that's a flaw in people, not technology. Maschine is easy to use, and you can easily make garbage with it, but you can do insane stuff with it if you think outside the box, as with many things.

    True, the term "dinosaur producers" itself is ridiculous. Music is about inspiration, creativity, doing things you like... Technological revolutions are helpful tools, but nothing more. People who think it's about the tools, didn't get it.
    What's really strange though, when it's about MPC's, computers, sequencers,... people nag about features and technology. But when it comes to guitars, everybody thinks valve-amps are the best and no one complains why a guitar doesn't have 9 strings by now :)

    @bigberg3k I was never a fan of Dr. Dre, and Timbaland can be described many ways (detail freak, for one thing), but I'm not sure I'd call him hard hitting. A lot of people I look up to have used MPC's, though, and I'm not knocking it. Hell, I could name a couple great producers who still only use Roland/Boss SP samplers, and those are quite limiting to work with. Just saying a big part of it is in how you use it. MPC's aren't automatic quality generators, neither is anything else.

  • @123ubuntu666
    @123ubuntu666 12 лет назад

    It still won't have the 'clock' of a hardware unit. I have an Axiom25 with eight pads on it running Guru and Geist. Nothing that can be done on this that I can't do with my modest setup. I love akai stuff though. I have a bit. Next up I'm gonna grab an apc20 with ableton - the akai version of ableton is the the best 'crippled' program they do. I wish I had the money for a REAL mpc 60, 1000, you know. Solid hardware clock with that 'funky' akai timing. There is a template for it in GEIST.

    So what can the Renaissance do that this one can't? Because as far as I understand it, this one is just a slimline version with a few less knobs but still does the functions the same? So my question is how on Earth do Akai justify charging almost DOUBLE the price for the renaissance at £730??? I don't get it, seriously....

  • @Kevon420
    @Kevon420 12 лет назад

    @505BANKMONEY some people simply work better with or understand the hardware approach like an MPC as opposed to using a mouse for making music. People just use what they are comfortable with, what they can use the best. There are advantaged & disadvantages of both. The point of the Ren is Akai wants to bridge both together. I think they will be successful, but it is a bit expensive.

    @bigberg3k Well, for one, I'm pretty sure MadLib uses an SP. MF Doom as well, I think. RZA has used all kinds of stuff, including Roland MV 8800. All do great, dirty stuff. As for Timbaland, I don't dislike him, per se, he's good at what he does, I just wouldn't characterize him as "hard hitting", his stuff tends to be more about rhythm than punch, and probably wouldn't sound that much different being made with software. Oh, and DJ Nu-Mark has jumped unharmed from MPC to Maschine.

    @bigberg3k Bangs harder? Ever heard of mixing and mastering? EQ? Bit crushers? Compressors? Maximizers? Transient shapers? Creating better sounds? There's plenty of things one can do to make beats "bang harder" other than buying an MPC5000. Mind you, I'm not knocking the MPC, just saying there's no need to have a one-track mind and dismiss the alternatives just because they don't have MPC written on them. It's all about how you use it.

    Which is BS, it's 499 Street Price (599 rrp). The Studio is nice, a good alternative to the Maschine if you like its style better. But the renaissance... I think it's a missed opportunity. It became an expensive controller, while it should have been a standalone unit with the ability to integrate/connect with it's computer-software to easily integrate with DAWs as well. Now it's standalone OR integrated, while it should have been 'AND'. People would have paid for the extra. Look at the Virus TI.
