Getting to level 50 in Halo 3 was insanely (and I would argue _unfairly_) hard. Remember winning literally 12-13 ranked TS games in a row as a 49, routinely playing against and beating 50s mind you, and still not ranking up. Then you lose 2-3 games and drop back down to 48. People always wanna praise H3's ranking system but it was actually kinda broken.

The new Halo kids nowadays wouldn't understand the struggle. I've played hours upon hours and I've only got a 45 over the course of Halo 3's lifespan. Halo 3 took skill to be good at. The first time I hit level 40, I fucking scream like a maniac. For people who says Halo 3 is garbage, I guarantee they was shit at the game. I wish games nowadays would go back to a ranking system like this, only way to level up is to win and that's how it should be.

Djthegamer988 Let me ask you something, what seems more rewarding Spartan Rank 152 after hours of non stop Infection that anyone can get if they played enough, or a 5 Star General which you have to be Highest Skill 50 to even achieve it. Idk about you, but a 5 Star General sounds more rewarding than Spartan rank. And yes it is about your personal stats, K/D and W/L ratio. If you lose you don't rank up, simple as that. If your shit at the game, your rank will show it.

Never got any of the weekend Playlist though. 49 in both brawls and then 48 in infection :( That game was basically my life back then. Good times. Felix Führich A lot of people have got rid of their Xbox 360, or Halo 3 It's not exciting to play right now either because the max players it gets is 200. It's kinda sad playing it when numbers are that low, knowing how incredible Halo 3 is. When the numbers spike, it will be exciting again because tons of people will be on it. There's more factors that go into it than just 'Being the same game on Xbox One'. The community portion of it (which is arguably why Halo 3 was so great and grew how it did) will grow again, because of backwards compatibility.

Halo 3 ranking system was annoyingly hard lol. It took me an entire year of grind, no job, no lifing only to get general grade 3 and highest skill 50. Halo 3 is the epitome of hardcoreness and no game comes close.
I loved this system, I only got to brigadier. But when you saw a 5 star general, you knew it would be a tough game. Not like halo 4 I got max and you could easily beat them. 5 star general was the undisputed top players
this was true, i remember those loading screens that you got to acess all the player status one by one to see what your opponents records looked like. Especially when it comes to armor, if i was to try and unlock armor in halo 3 id probably be able to get a few armor sets. But in general from what i heard in this video the halo 3 system sounded unfun if you suck at the game.
Wolf Person Or if you’re mediocre or even if you’re good. You don’t know who will be on your team. You don’t know who will be on the other team. It depended on chance. I loved Halo 3, but the newer system is much better. Fortunately for you and me, a lot of the armors were unlockable just by completing challenges, unlike the newer games, for the most part. For example, beating Halo 3 on normal would get you the EVA set. Beating it on heroic would get you both the elite pilot set and the EVA set. Beating it on legendary would get you both these and the EOD set. And you could easily get Hayabusa just by collecting all the skulls in campaign.
Halo 3 was the best game to play online multiplayer. Nowadays you can just buy your way through getting armor. But Halo 3 was special because when you got new armor is showed other players you deserved that armor because of how devoted you were to the game and how good you were
i dont know, i think it depends. a player who sucks ass at the game will never get some of their favourite armours in a system like h3, but a player who's god at the game doesn't really get anything to show off with in a system like infinite. i think striking a balance is the key
Level 45 Brigadier here. I had level 45 in Lone Wolf and in Doubles. I feel like I could have gotten to at least level 46 but I knew I would never be a 50 general as I feel like I was near my peak skill so it wasn't worth the stress trying. I had my wings and I was quite happy with that. I still remember when I got my level 45. It was a Lone wolf oddball match at Construct which I got first place. I'll never forget it. One of the happiest days of my life lol.
My skill rank is a 39 from years ago, i was frustrated winning over level 41's and 40's on lone wolves and never reaching colonel skill rank level 40. I am still a commander grade 2 to this day with I believe 940 something ish exp points. Halo 3 was a bitch but equally awesome and still remains my go-to halo game when it comes to reminiscing about the good ol' days. Mad respect to my fellows h3 players who grinded. Also forging the shit out that game was my afterschool hobby back in middle school. I constantly broke the maps and glitched out, made race tracks for mongooses, and zombie forts for infection. My fav map was a zombie fort i made in the water of the beach in the map Last Resort where survivors shot down zombies running 200% speed at you from the overrun town. The biggest rewarding moment i ever got from a video game was beating the campaign solo, that and unlocking the katana and security armour set. God i miss those days, sorry for rambling.

Another thing most people don't understand, and Halo 3 players will vouch for me when I say: becoming a General in Halo 3 is no easy task. You must reach a rank 50 skill level which basically means as you progress from the beginning it becomes more and more difficult to hold up with the increasing level of competition. 0 - 15 I say is fairly easy 16 - 25 you must have slight skills 26 - 34 you must have some skills 35 - 39 intro to the real challenge 40 - 46 could take months to make progress at this level (depending on play time) 47 - 48 here you face legit players who are a game or two away from earning a 50 49 - 50 the best of the best are here, if you want to become a 50/ general, you have to get through these players (who are at the top of the food chain), P.S. you must peform virtually perfect here because any mistake will be capitalized on by your opponents every single time. I've had many friends who have been stuck at around 45 - 49 for more than two years and I feel like you're ignoring this fact that you can't just play the shit out of Halo 3 and become the top rank **cough** Halo Reach **cough** It takes time/development/strategy to hang with those guys at the top and earn your 50, they don't hand them out like coupons believe me.

One of my best friends made it to 5 star general. I made it to normal General, but that grind nearly killed me. That’s what caused my Halo 3 burnout, but now I’m more excited than ever for Halo 3 on PC!
In a little over a year I got to 5 star general with an 87% win loss with a 50 in snipes, slayer, swat, doubles, 48 in mlg and 45 in lonewolves. I don't get it though because when I got master chief collection I can't play for crap! I'd average 35 kills in H3 snipes and for MMC I'm lucky if I hit more than 20. I feel like I completely lost ALL skill at halo when I started playing MMC. I doubt it's the game, I just think my Halo days are done.

it's not just you dude. MCC halo 3 is actually different, I was never 50 but can still tell there's subtle differences which can make a big difference for gameplay. look it up like the ^comment above mine^ said. EDIT: the other big difference that nobody mentions is the XB360 controller vs XBOne controller
I was at 47 lone wolve, I was pretty good at halo 3. I played team slayer on mcc and I couldn't get past 19. MCC has series scaling issues with ranking let alone problems inside the game itself.

Never played MMC, h4 or h5, but it sure feels bad to not be able to play at a high 40 skill range anymore, I did quit after armour abilities shananigans on reach and bs halo games like halo wars (i went to the midnight lauch to realise at home that it wasn't a first person shooter. one frase did stick out from the rest after 10 years of halo 3: "nostalgia is a dirty lier, it tricks you into thinking the past was better than it seemed"
Level 50 and 5 Star General here! It took me two years after 2007 to achieve level 50. After becoming a Colonel grade 2 and Brigadier grade 2. There was a lot dedication to playing better. A year after 2009, I accomplished the 5 Star General. In the end, worth it!!

49 brig general in h3. I was, and still am, super pissed I never got 50. H3 is the best game I've played to this day. Custom games/forge mode allowed you to make so many good minigames and maps.
I have to respectfully disagree with you except for the boost. Sprinting and sliding is natural to human nature so it would make sense to have them, plus they can make game play a lot more intense and exhilarating. Maybe we could compromise and instead of boosting, they could dodge roll like in gears of war? I see where they'd have the technology as they'd advance but maybe save that for the campaign and the story. Or possibly have two different game modes, called classic and modern, in multiplayer. That way we could both get what we want and neither can complain
@@deathblood9811 Sorry, have to disagree. The reason why sprinting is bad for halo is that it changed map design and the overall chaos of how the game itself played. Due to not sprinting, maps were much smaller in design. You could spawn, walk around a corner and be back in the fight. Controlling a power weapon spawn like the snipe on Halo 2 lockout or overshield on Halo 3 guardian was amazing. Maps were so small, your teammates were calling out areas on the other side of the map and you would do a quick hop to get a shot in. Sprinting being added in Halo accounted for one thing. The map design had to be changed drastically to account for the extra movement speed of the players. This made games like oddball less intense, it made fighting less intense, everything about the game slowed down. Just go watch a gamebattles match of Halo 3 guardian oddball and compare it to a match of Halo Reach, you'll notice the difference. The time it takes to get into a fight is a massive difference, making a lot more room for teamplay at all intervals of the map (in classic halo pre sprint). Sprinting being added in Halo was just bullshit by people who thought it would be better because they weren't proper halo players who understand it on a mechanically technical level in its design. Also, wtf do you mean "natural to human nature", the jumps are like 7 - 8ft high and you have jetpacks, fucking aliens. What does "natural" have to do with anything? It's a game, not a simulator. Pre sprint Halo was the best Halo.
The game should be no sprinting (no sliding), no bloom. boosting and and climbing is okay. Sprinting adds too much position variation, and makes the game non-competitive. There are no strats when the game turns into CoD. This is why CSGO is such a popular esports game
Halo 3 is my childhood. Started playing it when I was just 9. I remember when I didn't know how to drive a mongoose, rocket race was my first ever real experience playing Halo online. By the end of it my highest skill was 40 (from lone wolves) with little over a thousand exp. In my opinion Halo Reach is the best game in the franchise but Halo 3 will always be my favourite.
Bruh it gets HARD AF 45+ in Halo 3 depending what game type you played and who you played with / against. Team swat was my go to, then lone wolves, then slayer.

I remember having 48 true skill in team doubles with my friend trying to grind that last couple for about 4 months, but I was only on about 2,000 xp, safe to say halo 3 was lovingly brutal.
My addiction to Halo actually ended after Halo 3. I was a total no life and had 2 5 star general accounts lol. It was the only game I played until Reach came out, which pretty much killed Halo for me (and a fuckton of others) after that.
Had a 50 in team slayer and 44 highest skill achieved in mlg. Had a few accounts but overall played about 5000 games. Had quite a few 50 friends in mlg who came close but general grade 4 was still rare to see. Even rarer to see the rank for a single playlist as they added a rank symbol to your experience in a playlist as well.
I used to level peoples accounts up for money. Heres how you beat the system. It calculates your invisible MMR based on your win/loss ratio. The higher your MMR, the harder it is to level up. The lower your MMR, the easier it is for your team to rank up. So us boosters would make an account with -1000 xp from quitting every game. The accounts MMR would be crazy low, so we would recover the other guys account (lets say hes rank 40 and wants a 50 in MLG.) We play MLG and rank up 4-5 times every game because the booster account has such an attrocious MMR. It's super easy
I was a brigadier general too. 47 in doubles, 40 in snipers, 42 in ffa, 35 in team slayer, and I miss everything about halo 3... halo died after halo 3. The mechanics and graphics and overall gameplay and ranking system was the best, they perfected halo in halo 3, but they tried to fix something that wasn't broken
I'll never forget the release night; I was a Junior in high school and my friend and I took 3 days off school (most you can do without getting a doctors note) and played 18 hours a day for all 3. I think we got to 35 or something near there. The 50 came a few months after. The "down time" that was placed in this video was not realistic as to what it was launch date. They had an active player base of 1 million people at that time - there was no waiting for the next match. Also, it was very easy to skip ranks with all the new people in the game - just shoot better than they shoot at you. With that many hours, respawn points became redundant and there was a lot of plasma grenades "well placed" and people quit a lot. And the real pressure to keep pushing was around the gear unlocks. Everyone wanted that damn Katana on their back as well as the shoulder attachments. With enough Mt Dew and Cool Ranch Doritos, anything is possible.
I'm a commander grade 3, skill rank 38 in Halo 3. Grinded the shit out of lone wolves back then. Over 4,000 multiplayer games played with a total of 18 days spent in game. Looking forward to finally getting that 50 once the OG H3 becomes BC.
Reach was alright, still fun, but it was definitely the beginning of the end for Halo. Putting in "loadouts" goes COMPLETELY against the competitive spirit of halo: what made halo unique from COD was that at the start of every match every player was 100% equal. Loadouts changed that.

Seeing a Brigadier General was always fun. Everyone would make fun of them for having so much xp but never being able to get 50. Halo 3s ranking system was great because every game had so much at stake and you never knew if you would rank up until you were back in the lobby. I remember the times when I would stare at my rank in lobby after games just praying that the game was delayed and it need a second to update my new rank. This actually happened a lot for rank 49 to 50. A couple times it wouldnt give you the rank in lobby but when you looked at your service record it would say 50 and when you saw that glorious number you could finally sleep well.
Ahhhhh the good old days were true skill was met with skill and not mixed with new players who u couldn't depend on to help out! I hope they keep that the same for sure! Time to separate the 11 year olds from the 20 plus year olds!

My first account, I got to 47 in lone wolves. I screamed like a girl. My rank was brigadier grade 2. My second account, I got my 50 in doubles and swat. Doubles was easy because I had a good teammate and we worked really well together. All in all, my max rank was general grade 3. I felt like an absolute boss. You know, back when rank mattered and required skill.. I miss those days so much. Now everything is welfare and devs just hand out shit just so you'll play the game.
it was insane the amount of cheaters, standbyers, soft modders or hard modders, either way you were fucked because they used halo guardian ftp to their xbox to change the game files... Youd change the stats so only you have super speed, 360 auto aim, auto br rifle that fires sniper bullets. etc etc even changing spawn points i lost to that.,
I am actually pumped for Halo 3 backwards compatibility! We can actually deck out our spartan's style with no restraints and we can actually see which kids actually found all the skulls for their Hyabusa or managed to run over a kid with a mongoose in the Lone Wolf playlist. :)

Currently, that playlist is incredibly competitive (I personally can't get above Diamond 4). What do you mean by this statement? Are you assuming anyone could just get a Champ in HCS with out being a top player? I'd assume anyone with Champ in HCS would easily get ONYX in every other playlist, and walk to a 50 in H3.
I dont think a good halo 5 player will even come close to a good 3 player, the two games are polar opposites, halo 5 is basically call of duty so your claim is a good call of duty player could come close to someone who has been at the top ranks of a 100% skill based game for a decade. I remember playing halo 3 since 08 and how hard I grinded to get to general and 50 trueskill but only being able to make it up to 40-45. To this day I pop in halo 3 every once and a while to see if maybe, just maybe I can finally do what I couldn't as a kid. But to this day I'm still stuck at 43true skill :,)

Everytime I remember the adrenaline and the skill I used to have in this game almost makes me cry. What a game. I spent a small but big part of my life in this game. My favorite of all time, hands down. I played 27 days 23 hours and 31 minutes total. I'm proud of reach a Brigadier Grade 2 rank with 47 of skill. Never Forget...

You had "theater" wich lets you look at every game you played at every possible angle to study what you did wrong or what you could do better. You can look at every strategy or tactic or movement your opponent used on you and think of a counter. For your accuracy, you had octogon with instant respond equipped with snipe and BR's to perfect and sharpen your shot. You had "youtube" wich lets you see the best players play the game, you could learn from that. People talk about getting matched up with crappy players but I got a 50 in all playlist going in by myself even lone wolf's lol. The real beauty of halo is that you get what you put in. If all you do is play, you may not make it but if you learn from every disaster of a game where you got crushed, you'll eventually get to a 50. And all it takes is your own willpower and determination meaning you don't need to persuade or get permission from anyone else to put in the work to get better. Everything comes from you and I LOOVE that.
I hit a 5 star general through pure sweat in the competitive playlists. Me and my best friend grinded in the doubles playlists. Winning countless matches in a row for me to go from a 48 to a 49. Then we won one game on my 49 and went to a 50. It was wild. I played everything Halo 3 had to offer and I loved every second of it. I still say my most proud rank is a 47 in squad battle because that short-lived ranked playlist was pure chaos. I still wonder if people remember playing against or with us. Now that Halo is coming to pc I'm beyond excited to relive the grind.

I've barely played Halo 3, and I suck at it... Leveling up will be hard. REALLY hard... Mainly because I'm used to shooters with sprint, not the differently paced classic Halo games. I honestly think I could make a series out of trying to get to max rank in Halo 3, lol.

Years ago, during recess back in middle school, I remember one of the gamer kids was bragging about making it to max rank. All these years later I realize how big of an achievement that actually was. Goddamn, this shit was ridiculous.
Watching this hoping to cope on why I wasn’t good enough to get past 47-48 on Halo 3 when I was 15-18. Now thinking back just playing rushing in, not really learning any strats or playing routinely with a team yet alone practicing...makes sense.
Halo 3 was insanely rewarding when you ranked up. Your rank actually meant something. You knew the moment you joined a game if someone was better than you or not. That highest skill rank was your blood sweat and tears. It gave you something to work towards.
You should also add that if you were to lose matches one after the other, your trueskill will actually decrease if it was between increments. For example the highest I had got before in had to move away from the 360 was Commander Grade 2 and with a highest trueskill rating of 37. If I were to lose a match of Lone Wolves, I was deducted a trueskill point or even two points until it was at the base value of 35. Also EXP points could be lost if you were on a losing streak, but you would keep the rank.
5 star, 50 in every playlist. Surprisingly lone wolves was the hardest to get a 50 in because it only matched you against people of your rank - meaning no speed ranking like in team slayer, etc. I used to make a new account when I got bored and play with my friends who were already 50’s and I winning one game would rank you up 2-3 levels per game because of the algorithm. The best playlists in H3, though, were doubles and MLG

The new Halo kids nowadays wouldn't understand the struggle. I've played hours upon hours and I've only got a 45 over the course of Halo 3's lifespan. Halo 3 took skill to be good at. The first time I hit level 40, I fucking scream like a maniac. For people who says Halo 3 is garbage, I guarantee they was shit at the game. I wish games nowadays would go back to a ranking system like this, only way to level up is to win and that's how it should be.

Idk about you, but a 5 Star General sounds more rewarding than Spartan rank. And yes it is about your personal stats, K/D and W/L ratio. If you lose you don't rank up, simple as that. If your shit at the game, your rank will show it.

There's more factors that go into it than just 'Being the same game on Xbox One'. The community portion of it (which is arguably why Halo 3 was so great and grew how it did) will grow again, because of backwards compatibility.

I loved Halo 3, but the newer system is much better. Fortunately for you and me, a lot of the armors were unlockable just by completing challenges, unlike the newer games, for the most part. For example, beating Halo 3 on normal would get you the EVA set. Beating it on heroic would get you both the elite pilot set and the EVA set. Beating it on legendary would get you both these and the EOD set. And you could easily get Hayabusa just by collecting all the skulls in campaign.
Halo 3 was the best game to play online multiplayer. Nowadays you can just buy your way through getting armor. But Halo 3 was special because when you got new armor is showed other players you deserved that armor because of how devoted you were to the game and how good you were

Level 45 Brigadier here. I had level 45 in Lone Wolf and in Doubles. I feel like I could have gotten to at least level 46 but I knew I would never be a 50 general as I feel like I was near my peak skill so it wasn't worth the stress trying. I had my wings and I was quite happy with that. I still remember when I got my level 45. It was a Lone wolf oddball match at Construct which I got first place. I'll never forget it. One of the happiest days of my life lol.

My skill rank is a 39 from years ago, i was frustrated winning over level 41's and 40's on lone wolves and never reaching colonel skill rank level 40. I am still a commander grade 2 to this day with I believe 940 something ish exp points. Halo 3 was a bitch but equally awesome and still remains my go-to halo game when it comes to reminiscing about the good ol' days. Mad respect to my fellows h3 players who grinded.
Also forging the shit out that game was my afterschool hobby back in middle school. I constantly broke the maps and glitched out, made race tracks for mongooses, and zombie forts for infection. My fav map was a zombie fort i made in the water of the beach in the map Last Resort where survivors shot down zombies running 200% speed at you from the overrun town.
The biggest rewarding moment i ever got from a video game was beating the campaign solo, that and unlocking the katana and security armour set.

Another thing most people don't understand, and Halo 3 players will vouch for me when I say: becoming a General in Halo 3 is no easy task. You must reach a rank 50 skill level which basically means as you progress from the beginning it becomes more and more difficult to hold up with the increasing level of competition.
0 - 15 I say is fairly easy
16 - 25 you must have slight skills
26 - 34 you must have some skills
35 - 39 intro to the real challenge
40 - 46 could take months to make progress at this level (depending on play time)
47 - 48 here you face legit players who are a game or two away from earning a 50
49 - 50 the best of the best are here, if you want to become a 50/ general, you have to get through these players (who are at the top of the food chain), P.S. you must peform virtually perfect here because any mistake will be capitalized on by your opponents every single time.
I've had many friends who have been stuck at around 45 - 49 for more than two years and I feel like you're ignoring this fact that you can't just play the shit out of Halo 3 and become the top rank **cough** Halo Reach **cough** It takes time/development/strategy to hang with those guys at the top and earn your 50, they don't hand them out like coupons believe me.

One of my best friends made it to 5 star general. I made it to normal General, but that grind nearly killed me. That’s what caused my Halo 3 burnout, but now I’m more excited than ever for Halo 3 on PC!
In a little over a year I got to 5 star general with an 87% win loss with a 50 in snipes, slayer, swat, doubles, 48 in mlg and 45 in lonewolves. I don't get it though because when I got master chief collection I can't play for crap! I'd average 35 kills in H3 snipes and for MMC I'm lucky if I hit more than 20. I feel like I completely lost ALL skill at halo when I started playing MMC. I doubt it's the game, I just think my Halo days are done.

it's not just you dude. MCC halo 3 is actually different, I was never 50 but can still tell there's subtle differences which can make a big difference for gameplay. look it up like the ^comment above mine^ said. EDIT: the other big difference that nobody mentions is the XB360 controller vs XBOne controller
I was at 47 lone wolve, I was pretty good at halo 3. I played team slayer on mcc and I couldn't get past 19. MCC has series scaling issues with ranking let alone problems inside the game itself.

Level 50 and 5 Star General here! It took me two years after 2007 to achieve level 50. After becoming a Colonel grade 2 and Brigadier grade 2. There was a lot dedication to playing better. A year after 2009, I accomplished the 5 Star General. In the end, worth it!!

I have to respectfully disagree with you except for the boost. Sprinting and sliding is natural to human nature so it would make sense to have them, plus they can make game play a lot more intense and exhilarating. Maybe we could compromise and instead of boosting, they could dodge roll like in gears of war? I see where they'd have the technology as they'd advance but maybe save that for the campaign and the story. Or possibly have two different game modes, called classic and modern, in multiplayer. That way we could both get what we want and neither can complain

The reason why sprinting is bad for halo is that it changed map design and the overall chaos of how the game itself played. Due to not sprinting, maps were much smaller in design. You could spawn, walk around a corner and be back in the fight. Controlling a power weapon spawn like the snipe on Halo 2 lockout or overshield on Halo 3 guardian was amazing. Maps were so small, your teammates were calling out areas on the other side of the map and you would do a quick hop to get a shot in.
Sprinting being added in Halo accounted for one thing. The map design had to be changed drastically to account for the extra movement speed of the players. This made games like oddball less intense, it made fighting less intense, everything about the game slowed down.
Just go watch a gamebattles match of Halo 3 guardian oddball and compare it to a match of Halo Reach, you'll notice the difference. The time it takes to get into a fight is a massive difference, making a lot more room for teamplay at all intervals of the map (in classic halo pre sprint).
Sprinting being added in Halo was just bullshit by people who thought it would be better because they weren't proper halo players who understand it on a mechanically technical level in its design.
Also, wtf do you mean "natural to human nature", the jumps are like 7 - 8ft high and you have jetpacks, fucking aliens. What does "natural" have to do with anything? It's a game, not a simulator. Pre sprint Halo was the best Halo.

The game should be no sprinting (no sliding), no bloom. boosting and and climbing is okay. Sprinting adds too much position variation, and makes the game non-competitive. There are no strats when the game turns into CoD. This is why CSGO is such a popular esports game

Halo 3 is my childhood. Started playing it when I was just 9. I remember when I didn't know how to drive a mongoose, rocket race was my first ever real experience playing Halo online. By the end of it my highest skill was 40 (from lone wolves) with little over a thousand exp. In my opinion Halo Reach is the best game in the franchise but Halo 3 will always be my favourite.

Had a 50 in team slayer and 44 highest skill achieved in mlg. Had a few accounts but overall played about 5000 games. Had quite a few 50 friends in mlg who came close but general grade 4 was still rare to see. Even rarer to see the rank for a single playlist as they added a rank symbol to your experience in a playlist as well.
I used to level peoples accounts up for money. Heres how you beat the system.
It calculates your invisible MMR based on your win/loss ratio. The higher your MMR, the harder it is to level up. The lower your MMR, the easier it is for your team to rank up. So us boosters would make an account with -1000 xp from quitting every game. The accounts MMR would be crazy low, so we would recover the other guys account (lets say hes rank 40 and wants a 50 in MLG.) We play MLG and rank up 4-5 times every game because the booster account has such an attrocious MMR. It's super easy

I was a brigadier general too. 47 in doubles, 40 in snipers, 42 in ffa, 35 in team slayer, and I miss everything about halo 3... halo died after halo 3. The mechanics and graphics and overall gameplay and ranking system was the best, they perfected halo in halo 3, but they tried to fix something that wasn't broken
I'll never forget the release night; I was a Junior in high school and my friend and I took 3 days off school (most you can do without getting a doctors note) and played 18 hours a day for all 3. I think we got to 35 or something near there. The 50 came a few months after. The "down time" that was placed in this video was not realistic as to what it was launch date. They had an active player base of 1 million people at that time - there was no waiting for the next match. Also, it was very easy to skip ranks with all the new people in the game - just shoot better than they shoot at you. With that many hours, respawn points became redundant and there was a lot of plasma grenades "well placed" and people quit a lot. And the real pressure to keep pushing was around the gear unlocks. Everyone wanted that damn Katana on their back as well as the shoulder attachments. With enough Mt Dew and Cool Ranch Doritos, anything is possible.
I'm a commander grade 3, skill rank 38 in Halo 3. Grinded the shit out of lone wolves back then. Over 4,000 multiplayer games played with a total of 18 days spent in game. Looking forward to finally getting that 50 once the OG H3 becomes BC.

Reach was alright, still fun, but it was definitely the beginning of the end for Halo. Putting in "loadouts" goes COMPLETELY against the competitive spirit of halo: what made halo unique from COD was that at the start of every match every player was 100% equal. Loadouts changed that.

Seeing a Brigadier General was always fun. Everyone would make fun of them for having so much xp but never being able to get 50. Halo 3s ranking system was great because every game had so much at stake and you never knew if you would rank up until you were back in the lobby. I remember the times when I would stare at my rank in lobby after games just praying that the game was delayed and it need a second to update my new rank. This actually happened a lot for rank 49 to 50. A couple times it wouldnt give you the rank in lobby but when you looked at your service record it would say 50 and when you saw that glorious number you could finally sleep well.
This is by far the best ranking system of all time, none of the kiddies that actually play H5 would understand.

My first account, I got to 47 in lone wolves. I screamed like a girl. My rank was brigadier grade 2.
My second account, I got my 50 in doubles and swat. Doubles was easy because I had a good teammate and we worked really well together. All in all, my max rank was general grade 3. I felt like an absolute boss.
You know, back when rank mattered and required skill.. I miss those days so much. Now everything is welfare and devs just hand out shit just so you'll play the game.

Currently, that playlist is incredibly competitive (I personally can't get above Diamond 4). What do you mean by this statement? Are you assuming anyone could just get a Champ in HCS with out being a top player? I'd assume anyone with Champ in HCS would easily get ONYX in every other playlist, and walk to a 50 in H3.
Final thought: Getting a Champion in HCS would absolutely be an accomplishment. Halo 5 ranks do reflect a decent representation of a persons skill.
I dont think a good halo 5 player will even come close to a good 3 player, the two games are polar opposites, halo 5 is basically call of duty so your claim is a good call of duty player could come close to someone who has been at the top ranks of a 100% skill based game for a decade. Whisp You didnt actually use the BR that much though. Im English and I thought it sucked when I played a US host. Aus must have been worse. But IMO the BR was the least effected by lag.

I was General Grade 3, 50 highest skill reached, and I have no idea where I was at as far as EXP. But I remember loving every minute that I played. Easily one of my favorite multiplayer games of all time

I remember playing halo 3 since 08 and how hard I grinded to get to general and 50 trueskill but only being able to make it up to 40-45. To this day I pop in halo 3 every once and a while to see if maybe, just maybe I can finally do what I couldn't as a kid. But to this day I'm still stuck at 43true skill :,)
No shame in that because at least you tried your best and didn't mixed skill boost or buy a 50. Respect to you for that.

and than guess what? Halo Reach came out with a exp ranking system and I raged quit video games for 9 years, I only came for a few games in league of legends because of friends and for the new early VR gaming era (yeah it bother me a little that i never got that true mlg50)

because on halo 3 you can search any game type you want for just halo 3. It also has better hit registration and isn't str8 garbage too

Everytime I remember the adrenaline and the skill I used to have in this game almost makes me cry. What a game. I spent a small but big part of my life in this game. My favorite of all time, hands down.
I played 27 days 23 hours and 31 minutes total. I'm proud of reach a Brigadier Grade 2 rank with 47 of skill.

If you REALLY wanted to get a 50 in halo you could. You had "theater" wich lets you look at every game you played at every possible angle to study what you did wrong or what you could do better. You can look at every strategy or tactic or movement your opponent used on you and think of a counter.
For your accuracy, you had octogon with instant respond equipped with snipe and BR's to perfect and sharpen your shot.
You had "youtube" wich lets you see the best players play the game, you could learn from that. People talk about getting matched up with crappy players but I got a 50 in all playlist going in by myself even lone wolf's lol. The real beauty of halo is that you get what you put in. If all you do is play, you may not make it but if you learn from every disaster of a game where you got crushed, you'll eventually get to a 50. And all it takes is your own willpower and determination meaning you don't need to persuade or get permission from anyone else to put in the work to get better. Everything comes from you and I LOOVE that.
I hit a 5 star general through pure sweat in the competitive playlists.
Me and my best friend grinded in the doubles playlists. Winning countless matches in a row for me to go from a 48 to a 49. Then we won one game on my 49 and went to a 50. It was wild.
I played everything Halo 3 had to offer and I loved every second of it.
I still say my most proud rank is a 47 in squad battle because that short-lived ranked playlist was pure chaos.
I still wonder if people remember playing against or with us.
Now that Halo is coming to pc I'm beyond excited to relive the grind.

I got to 50 on 3 different playlists on halo 3 I think my proudest moment on the game was getting it in snipers. I miss a system like this great video my dude you should do one for halo 2.
I've barely played Halo 3, and I suck at it... Leveling up will be hard. REALLY hard... Mainly because I'm used to shooters with sprint, not the differently paced classic Halo games. I honestly think I could make a series out of trying to get to max rank in Halo 3, lol.

I've had a few 5 star generals, my main account is a 5 star General with a 50 in every playlist. Work all week and get that 50,then played double Exp all weekend. From Thursday to Sunday night.
2 accounts with MLG 50s here. Halo 3 was the most competitive ranking system in any shooter I've ever tried! Miss the hell out of it, the emphasis on winning really brought teams together to promote elite teamwork and coherent gameplay. Thanks for that one Bungie

I played like 20,000 games on Halo 3 (custom and matchmaking). Loved the ranking system in Halo 3
Watching this hoping to cope on why I wasn’t good enough to get past 47-48 on Halo 3 when I was 15-18. Now thinking back just playing rushing in, not really learning any strats or playing routinely with a team yet alone practicing...makes sense.
I had multiple 50’s on multiple accounts. It really wasn’t that hard as long as you were actually good. lol level 49 brigadier generals.

Halo 3 was insanely rewarding when you ranked up. Your rank actually meant something. You knew the moment you joined a game if someone was better than you or not. That highest skill rank was your blood sweat and tears. It gave you something to work towards.
You should also add that if you were to lose matches one after the other, your trueskill will actually decrease if it was between increments. For example the highest I had got before in had to move away from the 360 was Commander Grade 2 and with a highest trueskill rating of 37. If I were to lose a match of Lone Wolves, I was deducted a trueskill point or even two points until it was at the base value of 35. Also EXP points could be lost if you were on a losing streak, but you would keep the rank.
To this day, I still play Halo 3 on my 360 and try to get my 5 star general. If you see crawdad6, you've found me still trying to obtain it.

5 star, 50 in every playlist. Surprisingly lone wolves was the hardest to get a 50 in because it only matched you against people of your rank - meaning no speed ranking like in team slayer, etc. I used to make a new account when I got bored and play with my friends who were already 50’s and I winning one game would rank you up 2-3 levels per game because of the algorithm. The best playlists in H3, though, were doubles and MLG
