- I hope you’re ready for a one-two punch of horror icons on Collider Ladies Night. Last week we put the spotlight on Mia Goth for the release of MaXXXine, and now we’ve got Longlegs headliner Maika Monroe who is, hands down, one of the most exciting voices in the horror space right now - and has been for a decade.
It Follows completely changed the game for Monroe in 2014. The David Robert Mitchell-written and directed film featured a brilliant concept that was expertly executed, putting the project on the path to becoming a modern horror classic. That wasn’t the only 2014 release Monroe had that earned such high honors. She also starred in Simon Barrett and Adam Wingard’s The Guest, yet another beloved film festival gem that went on to be hailed as top-tier horror by the masses. And Monroe has not stopped excelling in the genre since. She consistently works with directing visionaries with bold and ambitious ideas, ideas that give Monroe opportunities to push boundaries in horror storytelling and challenge herself as an actor in that space. Not only is her latest in that department a big winner in every respect on screen, but the quality of the work seems to be paying off significantly. Longlegs is already setting records for its distributor, Neon, and is poised to take in $14 - $17 million for its debut weekend.
Monroe leads Longlegs as Lee Harker, a new FBI agent who finds herself working on an especially gruesome case. Given her unusually adept perception, FBI veteran Agent Carter (Blair Underwood) recruits Lee to help him track down a serial killer with ties to the occult.
In celebration of Longlegs’ nationwide release, Monroe swung by for a Collider Ladies Night interview to dig into how she carved out the perfect place for herself in Hollywood.

Thanks so much for watching this edition of Collider Ladies Night!
Want to see a Ladies Night interview ...... live? You can at San Diego Comic-Con! Perri will be hitting the Ballroom 20 stage with Melissa Barrera, Katy O'Brian, and more on Friday, July 26 at 2pm. Hope to see you there!
I am an 80s kid and A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET floods me with nostalgia, I'd LOVE to see Maika in a extremely dark version of Elm Street.
I love Maika Monroe so much. The modern day scream queen. So underrated.
Her and Mia goth are carrying fr
Maika is the reigning Scream Queen, as far as I'm concerned.
No at best she's third behind Mia Goth and Jenna Ortega.
Agreed 🙂↕️
@@79dmcjrJenna Ortega?
you don't understand how Maika just won ALL THE POINTS for wanting to be a part of the NoES... especially if Parker Finn or Mike Flanagan made their pitch...
I was pulled in by her performance in Maika Monroe and love to see her in so many great films coming out these last few years.
Maika, Jenna Ortega and Mia Goth are our current scream queens. I hope Maika works with Jenna or Mia.
You’re such a great interviewer wow
Another iconic interview from Perri, you're killing it! I loved seeing how comfortable Maika was, it felt very genuine and special.
Makia Monroe is beautiful and deserves so much more respect as a actress. Total DIME!! 👍🏼🔥
Forget the final girl trope a final girls with Maika and Samara would be amazing!!! They would be the toughest challenge for Freddy to date. This needs to happen before Robert can no longer play the role
Very intelligent questions being asked. Kudos to the host, not the typical fluff. Bravo..
Yeah, she's really good.
That's perri for you
Loved all these questions, great interview
I absolutely love Maika. I just watched 'Longlegs"the other day and she was amazing. 'It follows' is a masterpiece and in my opinion will rise to the top of all time classics as the years go by. That film has so many unique elements and Maika's performance is certainly one of them. Also can't forget her amazing performance in 'Watcher'. She is naturally gifted in this genre of acting and even though she is an amazing actress overall (e.g I loved her in BOKEH which is a drama film) this, what I would call Mystery/Atmospheric Horror is her element. She was born to do this work.
Great interview as always! Maika seems like such a genuinely sweet person. Really emotionally intelligent and easygoing. A total breath of fresh air!
This interview was really great!
Finished during chores lol. Great job as always 🤘🏼👌🏽 Glad she was able to participate, and pick her brain
Haven’t seen It Follows, but watching Longlegs made me fall in love with Maika. She’s so charming and such a great actor!
WATCH IT FOLLOWS!!!!
Woahhh didn’t know Perri had this show!!! I’m 100% on board
Perri, you ask THE best questions and follow ups… thank you for this ❤
scream queen!! cannot wait to see longlegs this weekend
Maika Monroe is simply amazing. Even the roles where she isn’t the lead actress she nails it. Long Legs was soooo unsettling, I LOVED every second of it! 😅
Excellent interview maika is that actress that can knock it out the part with any role she does. I cannot wait for it folliws 2
She's a good actress I like her. I know It Follows is the one many like most but personally I liked Watcher more. She definitely picks interesting roles with interesting characters. I've only seen three of her films so far Longlegs being the most recent but I'm going to go back to her other roles that I haven't seen yet.
lovely interview!
This was such an incredible interview, the energy was there and both the questions asked and answers given were so well thought out, super fun to watch and listen and learn
Just watched!! So good! Thanks Maika for your performance! 👍🏽
Great chat!
Can't wait to see Long Legs for myself! Looks incredible!
"It Follows" was a superior horror film, I've watched it a few times and it really holds up, it's such a terrifying film.
This was a great interview, like always. Before Longlegs, It Follows was the only movie I've seen of Maika's. She's very talented, and I can't wait to see what's next for her!
Watch the guest - excellent film.
Oh and watcher !
@@suedehead-lv2bo Watcher is SO underrated
Ooooh, nice one here cuz I've been debating seeing the film and Maika here is good at making one wanna watch it!
The guest is my favorite horror movie that’s “technically not a horror movie” Loveee Maika
Great interview! por favor que Mika esté en la próximo peli de Anightmare on elm street, pura vida
Holy shit. Once again. THANK you.
Thnx for sharing
The guest is THAT movie
I only recently realized Oz Perkins was the nerdy dude in Legally Blonde!
Nothing like a great conversation between two beautiful and intelligent women!!
Yes Maika, it follows2 i love it Longlegs everything your great love your work thanks I'm watching everything
Queen of elevated Horror! Genuinely nice, normal and you can see she loves her craft ❤ Longlegs really raised the bar.
She’s a good actress. To call her a “scream queen” is selling her short. She’s just a good actor who can show a lot of vulnerability on screen and she can be in any genre.
43:53: If they're bringing back some of the other characters I would definitely like to see Paul and Yara...
She’s made nothing but smart decisions with her role picks.
Our screen queen
43:17: Just can't wait for this rn!!...
Such an amazing actress ❤️
The Guest is amazing. Has it all. Had to find a copy of the soundtrack. PLEASE DO ANOTHER VIDEO W/“LONGLEGS” SPOILERS. Can’t wait to watch it again and pay more attention to the fine details.
I do acting and you ask great questions. 🎉
We did! We’ll share that one on the Collider Interviews RUclips channel this weekend.
Got to get Michael Monroe and Mia goth in a movie
My favorite actress 😊
I'm really glad her Disney stuff didn't work out. She's a scream queen, and she belongs there!
Maika Monroe ❤❤
Maika Samara Melissa and Katheryn on ANOES reboot with robert englund returning as freddie im for it if radio silence or mike Flanagan or zack creegan pitches it
I've never seen her in an interview before, I love her vibe and I'm so glad she's getting more roles! A bit random but she mentioned having to audition with a swedish accent while dancing and I am wondering if it was for Tinka from Disney Channel's Shake It Up 😂
That is so hilarious to imagine, it could’ve def been for that role
God Is a Bullet was kind of a mess overall, but Maika was tremendous in it.
scream QUEENSSSSSSS!
Wtf shes gorgeous
I saw a long legs and liked it but it's definitely a movie where you have to put the dots together
LET ME IN NOW,
... AND IT CAN BE NICE!
MAKE ME GO NOW,
... AND I'LL HAVE TO COME BACK,
... NOT ONCE!
... NOT TWICE!
... BUT AS MANY TIMES AS I LIKE!
I'll always see Maika as a young Gwen Stefani, it's cute haha! She should sing one of her songs lol! Personally, I don't love the movie, It Follows. It's good, but not amazing. I believe LongLegs is her top adventure so far😱❤️🔥
After seeing long legs this past Thursday after letting the film settle a bit. I just say Ms. Monroe will u marry me, 💖? Lol it's honestly a Monroe and Goth neck and neck in the race for the best most standout scream queens.
The on-set environment is very important for sure. But unfortunately the experience is also very different for actors. I'm on a movie right now with huge names. The actors are having an amazing time of course, but the crew is miserable because the director has insane requests and the first AD is a bully. But they won't treat the actors the same way bc the actors are much bigger names. So they probably have no idea of what's going on even though the main actress is also a producer and friends with the director. Two crew people walked off set on the first day of shoot. There is also no point reporting this stuff because HR is there for show only. Who do you think they're going to fire? The crew member who reported the bullying or the first AD who has done other jobs with the director? Unfortunately this industry is extremely unethical. Actors get paid thousands or even millions meanwhile crew members can't even have a lunch allowance. Sorry, just a bit of a rant tangent there, but I just wish this industry didn't have as many psychopaths as it does. Anyway, I love Maika Monroe and she is definitely one of the Scream Queen of this generation. Is she's in it, I'll be seated.
She could really play GWEN STEFANI in a biopic!
Maika is what everyone thinks Jenna Ortega is when it comes to acting and horror films.
Does Maika look like a young Gwen Stefani to anybody else?
i can fix lee harker. 😍
No new nightmare on elm st please unless Robert Englund is going to do freddy. If he doesn't let it rest and move on
She looks like Gwen Stefani
young Gwen?
Holy crap its Gwen Stacy 😊
My very first thought ❤
I can't even think about what they follow could be like
w
Please continue to do this series. Really nice, pro-"ladies" positive conversations/messages. We don't get enough of this in the internet.
Sadly, not a fan of Longlegs. The cast was good, but the story was not enough.
My close friend used to be a paramedic..until he was called to a house where a woman died alone and lie there for 3 months in 100+degree heat. She practically melted through the floor. Not my dream job for sure.
Has Collider ever considered hiring actual writers instead of the unskilled amateurs currently writing its weak attempts at articles?
Is she Longlegs I don’t get it
Lollll go watch the movie 🎬
The best part of the movie was when her character said: You were right about me I am the long legs
Had a crush on her since it follows, I prefer her over Mia Goth any day of the week.
no need to pit em against each other
I love maika
Great interview!
