@marviosantos yes, that is the way the JCM800 preamp is set up, but he is using the JCM900. Also, the argument someone made about using "half the amp" is not relevant whatsoever. The only way in which the power amp will change things is if the volume is set so high that the power tubes are breaking up. All the gain in this video is coming from the preamp. For all intents and purposes, strat1 could have plugged the GSP1101 into a random power amp and used the effects send of the 900 to send

@skibus69 I try to answer despite my bad English.I switch between the JCM900 PREAMP and the same *simulated* preamp.Things that remains the same in both configurations are the JCM900 *power amp* and the cabs. If I test 1101+JCM900 pre+power amp versus 1101+another power amp (i.e. Rocktron Velocity) this is not the correct way, IMHO. I think that in your opinion you omit the fact that in the gsp1101+jcm900 configuration I totally skip the preamp stage of the jcm900,uning instead the Digi preamp.
I don't get it. If you're switching the digitech from the model to direct, then you're still playing THROUGH the Marshall JCM900 on BOTH "sounds". The tone is going to be EXTREMELY close because the amp is the last thing in the chain, so you still get the same tube response. AND the overdrive/distortion was still ON in the Marshall. To do this RIGHT, you'd need to plug the GSP1101 into another amplifier and cab the A/B directly into the JCM900.
@skibus69 It's a peculiarity of GSP; if you connect with the 4 cables method you can choose, for each preset, to use the preamp of the GSP, skipping the preamp of the amp you are using, or to use the preamp of the amp, skipping the pre stage of the GSP; in this way you can use only the effects of the GSP1101. If you read the manual of the GSP all will be clear.
digitech sounds little harsher to me. but, one thing i learned about modeling effects - when i stop comparing them to the originals, i tend to like them more, meaning, they have good sounds on their own until you do a side-by-side comparison.
@skibus69 I play in two bands; in one band I use the traditional amp; in the other I go digital,GSP direct in the mixer. I see you are rather skeptical about the GSP1101;it's a great machine with great possibilities. I've used for 30 years the conventional amplifier, but now I'm evaluating the great possibilities of the digital world. Now,if i want, I can use a Twin pre in a JCM power amp; or a Orange pre, or a Soldano. Obviously we are talking about high quality gear, not Pod or Zoom.
@skibus69 This is a comparison only between the JCM900 real preamp and the same preamp simulated by the Digitech GSP1101. The sentence "you're still playing THROUGH the Marshall JCM900 on BOTH "sounds" should be correct in this: "then you're still playing THROUGH the Marshall JCM900 POWER AMP on BOTH "sounds", because one path is guitar->JCM900 preamp ->JCM900 power amp->cabs the other is guitar-> Digi simulated JCM900 preamp ->JCM900 power amp->cabs Thank you for the interesting note.
Absolutely! Of course it's gonna sound good, you're already using half the amp! :) Worst yet, the way the JCM 800 pre amp is set up, the crunch you extepct from it is coming mostly from the power section anyhow. Also, to skibus69, I wouldn;t say Digitech is a step up from a POD, quite the contrary, if you really want modeling, POD is the way to go; Of course you really don't want modeling in the first place, unless you doing a quick demo at home :)
@IcechickenSr So I thought I wonder if I bought a JCM900, got the dual chorus pedal, some good delay pedal, a guy overdrive (again someone please tell me where I can find this Guy overdrive pedal) and have the real setup so I can get some higher quality sounds if i'd get similar sound. After your demo of the REAL jcm 900 I think it may be a good move! Appreciated your demo it helped me alot, thanks man! Cheers, IC.
to send the preamp into the same separate power amp and they would have sounded almost exactly the same. To the person that said the Kemper is real and this is a toy, I hope they realize that this is less than a fourth of the price for a Kemper. The Kemper
Thanks so much for this comparision man!!! I have the digitech RP255 and got this sweet Michael Angelo Batio sound using some light slapback delay, the VERY SWEET digitech Dual Chorus, JCM900 amp modle, and a GUY overdrive pedal (whatever that is lol) I've been a little dissapointed with the touch sensitivity with my 255, it dosn't have any it's full attack to the strings or nothing, Contd.....
@g37dude are two very different machines, and what you can do with the Nova, you can do with the 1101, instead not all you can do with the 1101 you can do with the NS.
Are you playing through the same cab for both? If so, that will have a huge influence on the final sound. Also, I'm able to configure my GSP effectively for several different signal paths - including running straight into an amp's front end - with excellent results. Overall, i'm not surprised that you're able to match the sounds as well as you've done (particularly in your small space), because the GSP is a remarkably versatile device. Rgds.
Hi, it would be nice if you could record a demo of the GSP1101 effects without the cab simulation. There isn't a single video of the GSP1101 demonstrating the "effects" only. I have subscribed to your channel just in case you decide to do something like that. Thank you.
Are you or are you not cabled like this: Guitar---GSP1101---JCM900---Marshall Cab? If so, you are ALWAYS using the JCM's pre and power amp. There is NO way to NOT use it's preamp even if it's turned down to 0 it's still in the chain and gives some tone. You said you skipped the preamp stage, how? Watching the video all you did was change the channel on the GSP.
Irregardless, playing ANY modeled preamp THRU the amplifier it's modeling is going to give the same sound as the amp would, at least VERY close to it. Which make NO sense to even do it. Why would you buy a modeling preamp then buy say a JCM800 and use the modeled preamp and the 800's power amp? It's like wiping before you poop, makes no sense.
lol, no. Plugging any preamp into the power section of the amp will not make it sound similar to the amp in question. I can see you truely have no clue how the 4CM method works go do some reading and educate yourself mate. The 4CM opens up a huge can of different tones at the push of a button. You shouldn't comment on shit you don't understand bud. Cheers, Lucius
Great video. I just got a GSP1101 and am still tweaking with it....so much to do. Thanks for the comparison. Keep on Rockin'!
Thanks so much.....very nice of you to share this..........

Holy crap. Digitech made something I like! This is the first emulated unit that doesn't sound terrible to my ears.. and I have heard a lot. ^^

Marshall. Digitech. Marshall. Digitech. :D Nice demo The marshall sounds a bit more bassy and thicker.

@abradfordajb Thanks for the comment; yes, same cab for both
great review thanks...But dude what is the deal with your ceiling? above you?
Hi. I did switch by alternating the pre (internal-external)
lol I love that there is a ton of equipment here...and the ceiling is falling in.
What you don't see is he has an extension cord he's using to "borrow" some power from the neighbors. : D
nice crib you've got there.. straight ballin' shit
Sounds better than your Marshall
This is a great video. I always want it someone to do some video like this
🇺🇲IMMIGRATION "ICE".......just kidding......thanx for the comparison 👍🇺🇲❤NOTHING BEATS A MARSHALL 💥
thank you for taking the time to make this.

awesome - I'm totally getting the GSP1101
There is a difference, a negligible difference. I am still undecided between this processor and the Nova System, it is a hard decision.

Great Video, Really sounds like the marshall!
come si chiama quel pezzo degli acdc (se non sbagliooo) che fai negli accrodi col marshall.
Scusa l'ignoranza
YOU SHOOK ME ALL NIIIIGHT LONG!!
@g37dude I'll think about it, it can be a useful video. Thank you.
i would sell some of that gear and do some renovations on your house. that roof looks pretty bad
@paulscape72 It's the power of rock'n'roll!
wow very close in sound
lol... it's a old old ceiling; and what you see in this video has collapsed two days ago (strong rain...)
I honestly couldn't tell much of a difference...
You shook me all night long
if youve got the money for a real jcm900 and GSP1101 then surelly you can afford a microphone ?
marshall sounds better if u close ur eyes
gne ... gne ... gne...
