one of the classics of the 80s/90s the golden era of car manufacturing imo. not sure how a cars like this arent being reproduced rather than production efforts go into making stupid suvs and new models that just look plain stupid and are less desireable. well made video btw segements, quality, footage, audio etc
Saw this last year at the OUlton Park Gold Cup, Putted my mate in his Volvo S40, left a bit bent but that said it was awesome seeing Brancatelli push the thing to the max.
Great to see it being used as it was designed to be! Its a shame that some of these old timers are left dormant in collections never really turning a wheel in anger......
Was hilarious back in 1989 when Alan Moffat turned up to the first round of the ATCC in his brand new and shiney Eggenberger RS500 only to have his doors blown off by Dick Johnson's Brisbane built RS500's. DJR built the fastest of all the RS500's.
Ford had a test mule Mustang with a 16-valve engine that never made it to production. It would have been the American version of this car. Too bad it never happened.
if it's 1040kg then it's underweight, the homologated weight in Group A for a 2L Turbo is 2000x1.7 = 3400 which puts it in the 3-3.5l weight class which is 100kg imgur.com/fkiTarJ
Could anybody tell me the car(yellow, number 155) that comes round the corner with the Sierra at 2:22, looks like it is a mk2 Escort but I've never seen one with a rear end like that, looks like a fast back ??
Nowadays you can build a fairly reliable albeit maintenance heavy 500 bhp YB, though in the 80s they were burning the candle at both ends to get that power and race hard. And it depends what you mean by reliability. In a race they'll take more abuse than just trackdays or road. They need to be taken care of but they can be fairly dependable if you keep them happy, which is expensive to refresh the head and check the bottom end so often but spotting wear early will save the engine from self destruction.
Is this the REAL Andy Rouse commenting among us peasants? Love watching your old BTCC stuff every now and then. Hope all is well and that you still drive like you did then. Cheers!

That thunder saloon escort is keeping the RS500 on its toes!

King of the touring cars.
Love the classic Group A Sierras. Nice turbo flutter at 2.01.
External waste gate bud
@@RoverEins It's the compressor surging that makes that sound, not the wastegate. ;)
Whatever. Your English Sierras are toys compared with the Australian DJR 800hp fire breathing Bathurst race cars of the 90's.
@@RoverEins Sorry my mistake
@@RoverEins Dick knew how to tune those Sierras, that’s for sure.
Some great photography, love the RS500 Cossie. 💙💚💛
The mk2 escort with the x pack seemed to be hanging on very well with the serria!

One of the finer things in life! God that looked quick !
I owned an 88 Ford Merkur in 96..it was a fun car...5spd turbo and all...
The Mk2 is 2.5 litre Normally aspirated YB built in the UK owned by Saun Brown ...was only beaten by the Mucke Zakspeed Capri in the race.
Brilliant to see. Awesome Cosworth and a very cool escort chasing it

Mk2 Escort mate

Great to see it being used as it was designed to be! Its a shame that some of these old timers are left dormant in collections never really turning a wheel in anger......

Tail lights look like a mk2 too
Video poster says it's a 1967 Opel Kadett
Opel Kadett Rally. My Dad had one when I was a kid. Dual Carb model. Really fun little car.
The moment people realise this is Gran Tourismo on the PS5 footage...
🤣
Where can I get that engine? And what about it
reliability with 500hp?
Reliability=no

Rs 500 with lhd?
and then the R32 came and knocked the axles off all of these cars for four years straight.
If you’re YB isn’t running a Nick Waples head, it’s not the fastest 👍
Needs to be behind an R32, for realistic purposes.
That wont happen on spa👍 only on tracks with many corners
