@@maggiereneemusic Absolutely, left a comment there also. Ronnie was one of the nicest guys in rock, very down to earth. He attributed his vocal ability to his years playing trumpet and the breathing exercises he learned from that, He was once asked by one of his peers about his pre show "warmup" his response, smoke half a joint to relax and then go on stage.
He had a tremendous stage presence, a real showman. during the 85-86 Sacred Heart tour, he had an animatronic dragon on stage that he would "battle" with an illuminated sword that was lit up like a light saber, there are videos of this in the song "Sacred Heart" from the live show. I had the pleasure of seeing him 3 times each tour for the Holy Diver, Last in Line, and Sacred Heart tours, always put on a great show. One of the few singers that sounded as good live as he did on the album.

According to wendy dio that exact part was written for Richie Blackmore. Also, the song Rainbow in the Dark was also about Blackmore. Ritchie hurt Ronnie pretty badly personally. Ritchie kicked him out of Rainbow 🌈 for more commercial songs. Ronnie never got over it, according to Wendy.

I'm surprised you don't mention how dio colours the words. He tells a story all the while maintaining a great sound. He knows when to use his rasp or a clean voice or his head voice to tell the story of his song. And he does it so beautifully and naturally. When he says hot you feel it's hot, when he says the wizard falls instead of rising you can perfectly visualise it because his voice is falling and rising. Dio isn't a singer he is a great story teller.

He threw in the 95 mph range to start. Where most pictures would loose velocity as the game went on, Verlander didn't. By the 8th inning he was throwing 97 mph still. I wonder why no one mentioned that Ronnie James Rio played trumpet as a child and was good at it (atleast that what I heard)....maybe that has something to do with his vocal control, but then again I'm not a vocalist either. per source: As a child, Ronnie James Dio learned the trumpet and his father made him have lessons for two hours every day. “He played on trumpet onstage with Gene Pitney when he was 15,” his widow Wendy told Loudwire. “He decided that he couldn’t pull girls playing the trumpet, so he taught himself how to play bass.”

@@maggiereneemusic Yep, if it's the Holy Diver one, sure did. Great job. His vocals are so insanley great, all depends on the type of sone he sings. He was in a doo-wop band in the 60's (red caps) I believe. So he transformed hisself. The DIO songs I do like (and there's many more than this) are Don't Talk to Strangers; All the Fools Sailed Away; The Last in Line; Heaven and Hell; Children of the Sea; Startgazer; Gates of Babylon. Some are with Rainbow, Black Sabbath or self titled DIO.

I had the incredibly good fortune to have been at one of their concerts on this specific tour... It was a magical rock experience and the song actually went on for longer at the concert but they faded it out for the album. Also, No, Ritchie did **NOT** smash all his guitars, that was something that Pete Townsend was well known for and there are dozens of examples of that. Ritchie only did that a couple times during certain concerts, but that was rare and Ritchie took decent care of his favorite guitars.

Think of where rock came from, Elvis was inspired by the blues and jazz that he heard in certain venues, yet we consider his genre rock, even though in almost all of his songs there is a 12 bar blues walking bass line. Therefore it stands to reason that a lot of rock since then would have blues elements behind it.

It was common to break guitars and instruments. If you wanna see when he was with Deep Purple known as MarK III LINE UP of Purple in California Jam performance they exploded a drum set with like 10x explosives almost hurting them Ritchie then broke a think it was ABC's camera that cost like $40,000+ because camera guy kept getting too close to him . You should check out "BURN" FROM Deep Purple Cal. Jam 1974 with David Coverdale as singer and Glen Hughes . Ronnie James Dio said Glen Hughes was one his favorite vocalist

Blackmore is well known for using a fender strat and during live shows the band takes a break while he simply goes nuts with guitar. He never smashes a genuine strat. He uses a cheap knock off and proceeds to absolutely abuse it before smashing it and throwing the pieces into the audience.
In a way he’s saying “this is how you treat knock offs”.
He had a deal with fender and at the time was kinda arguing with jimmy page who had a deal with Gibson. All good fun.

Uh, guitars don't have tails, he was actually swinging the guitar by its NECK, but I dig the way you called it like you saw it. I also disagree w/ folks who hated this reaction...not my favorite either but boy do you score points for stepping outside of your comfort zone. My reaction to any opera would be one long loud retching sound...I mean I recognize & admire the talent it takes to sing opera, but it just ain't my bag, man. At least you can celebrate Dio's greatness. Although for all I know the Charasmatic Voice may have tipped you off ahead of time...and FWIW I can tell you have an Amazing voice too, I'd love to hear you sing some Sabbath, or go head-to-head w/ Rainbow & Dio in a Battle of the Vocalists. Really, I think that'd be so cool for one of you golden-voiced Reaction Vocalists to sing a song like Stargazer word for word & let US give YOU, OUR reaction. Seriously. Whaddaya say?

According to dio himself, who's lyrics were almost entirely written within the realm of fantasy with a flare of the middle ages, he envisioned himself a captured slave forced to build a pyramid for some ruler. Once the ruler dies and the slave is freed is where Dio says the struggle begins within the slave because he's rather institutionalized at this point. He doesn't know where to go. There is a part 2, called a light in the black, which he says in the interview tells the story of the slaves journey home, which in the end is right back where he started...one interesting, impressive thing about Dio is that all that power came out of a man only 5'4" with his shoes on.
