There are also separate drawings for Arthur to make in his journal and cutscenes with him in it that are normally only able to be accessed as John, I really wonder what kind of development cutbacks and stuff happened behind the scenes because for as great as the game is there's a _lot_ of little things that point to it being radically changed over the course of its development (Guarma probably being the biggest thing, and possibly Mexico)
There is a LOOONG list on Reddit of things which got cut, not all of it is confirmed. Among other things, a lot of trinkets were cut, a lot of NPC models dont seem to appear in the game at all (Neanderthal among others). A lot of secrets were supposed to have some conclusions (ie. the Princess of Netherlands? or some other country, I dont remember). Deer Cottage and Reed Cottage was supposed to have twin borthers, who hate each other and thats why their houses are somewhat opposite. The camp upgrades were supposed to be more meaningful (currently most of the bonuses are kind of pointless). At some point you should have been able to breed horses (hence the horse balls were more relevant). One UFO encounter was cut. Those are just from top of my head.

My biggest guess is that at some point they never intended for arthur to die, they might have wanted him to agree to leave, or head east, and never speak about him again to avoid getting caught by the pinkertons, but decided to kill him just so people wouldnt expect him in a sequel rock star might not make for a decade
@@drekon6939 no the flintlock pistol itself isn't weird, the weird thing is that they keep calling the pistol a *revolver* in dialogue when it clearly isn't, so my thinking is maybe they intended us to collect a unique functional flintlock pistol but didn't have time to program it in and wanted to change it to a revolver but must have forgotten to change the model somehow (I've only played through the story mode once towards launch so I'm not sure if they've done a patch since that might've corrected this dialogue oversight) or the inverse, it was first meant to be an old revolver but they changed it to a disabled flintlock and never changed the dialogue

You know, I was thinking of it the other day and, besides the obvious most talked about reasons, the writers actually missed a real opportunity with New Austin story wise. It would've fit Chapter 6 superbly. 1. Because moving to drier climates was one of the chief methods in the Wild West of soothing tuberculosis. 2. Dutch doing Arthur the favor of moving the entire gang for his benefit alone using the last of his compassion could of reignited Arthur's conflict about leaving despite knowing deep down there's no choice. 3. The hellish, pseudo-supernatural scenery of New Austin would've paralleled/complimented Dutch and the gang's deterioration into madness and chaos. 4. Being in the absolute middle of nowhere, separated near-entirely from civilization, and that having 0 effect on the Pinkerton's pursuit would've really nailed in the outlaw age being truly over.
I used a mod to disable the snipers and disable the wanted level in blackwater, so I went there and most of the events aren't there, just like the skinners aren't. The armadillo events and the Tumbleweed sheriff aren't as well. Blackwater saloon is empty but everything else works.
Same. I don't understand how is it possible that some people can get all of these events as Arthur but we can't and we are using the same mods I guess.

This makes me want a plot point where Arthur totally could have rode west and settled down in Tumbleweed, but he knows that he has to stop Dutch so rather than living in a dry climate and beating his TB he makes the decision to wrap things up even if it means risking his life.

Honestly the cholera plague makes more sense to me in 1899 than it does in 1907. 12 years vs 4 years difference seems like a more plausible time frame for armadillo to be the more or less thriving town it is in 1911. Wish they'd kept this as an option
I think in rdr1 they mentioned a cholera or some other type of outbreak in Armadillo around this time as it led to the death of most of the McFarlane siblings. I can only assume that during rdr1 sometimes after the cholera outbreak armadillo become the boomtown we see in 1911

The problem with that is at this time and where they are at, they didn't really have plumbing, so water was either stored, from a well, or from a river. If something tainted the source of water, you wouldn't know until it was too late. It's why for the majority of human history we've been drinking low alcoholic beverages as opposed to water.
in Mexico theres some Music that plays when your exploring Mexico and theres also a dog you can hear its a rare event but that dog is nowhere to be seen
In my walkthrough, I decided to sin and used mods to disable the sniper and dangerous zones. I sent closed only the lands adjacent to Blackwater and the city itself, and the whole of New Austin open. Personally, I think this is unrealistic. According to the laws of those years, they searched for a criminal either throughout the country or in the state where the crime took place. Headhunters and Pinkertons don't count.
Glad I played when it was possible to travel there as Arthur. From what I remember though, it was rather odd and empty and I don't think there were any bounty missions until I played as John. They are more voice lines for Arthur when you visit Armadillo. When developers were making rdr2 at the beginning there was an concept to explore Armadillo as Arthur (in the game files you can also find voice lines for mexico soldier)

I like the great amount of detail of rdr2 that even rockstar has foreseen that the players find a way to take arthur to New Austin due to a bug or later on pc due to mods and allan left hidden dialogues or just rest of the beta
I went to a cremation once. It was after the Nepal earthquake that devastated thousands. Ruins everywhere. Winter too, so it was worse for people who got their homes destroyed. The smell of burning rotten flesh will never leave my memory. If you don't prepare the body properly for cremation you'll get an explosion as the flesh are all burnt away. The skull that holds the brain cannot handle the inside pressure of the brain being cooked so it explodes. It's crazy.
The fact that voicelines exist for an area that Arthur is incapable of going to in the base game means that the devs *knew* that players would find a way and wanted to cover all their bases. Credit where it’s due; Rockstar has some pretty amazing foresight regarding their playerbase.

it seems to me it was always the devs intentions to allow arthur into new austin whether some last minute outside decision was made by some big shot producer or Dan Houser had a mental breakdown during the final months of production that led to his stepping down either way it is such a fucked and shitty decison to remove all of the content that would have been available to Arthur, just to shoehorn John into that spot for the sake of "realism" or whatever they chalked it off to, theres probably 30+ hours of cut content from this game that we will never know about because rockstar has no transparency between the company and the customer
The reason why they cut this content from Arthur is because they want to save content for when you play as John ,because if you play Arthur and have him done every single thing before John is gonna make John’s part empty and boring
They cut this content to meet deadlines, in-game story wise and also as a product. They had a fair amount of issues with development, the first RDR was apparently a nightmare lmao. All of this was built from a game engine designed for a 2006 table tennis game
John was not supposed to be familiar with New Austin in the first game and he already has 2 chapters and several unique interactions even outside of New Austin. Is that not enough? Jack only had 1 unique mission and a slight interaction change in another stranger mission.
I love the atmosphere of the plaque, it was done perfectly. Though it did upset me that the lively small town in Red Dead Redemption has became into such a dying hell hole.

Developers keep cut content in the game even if it’s not accessible because game development is hell and changing one thing can completely fuck up multiple other aspects of the game because coding and code in general is extremely complex and not smth that’s incredibly stable especially when you have games like red dead that are absolutely massive it’s best to think of cut content like a deleted scene in a movie yeah it’s cool to see they’re previous ideas for the game but the lack of it in the movie isn’t due to laziness it just might not have fit the story they wanted to tell the only difference is it’s still in the game due to reasons explained before there’s a famous story about I think a valve game where’s there’s an asset under the map that you can’t access but anytime they tried to remove it it fucked up the game massively

I like the great amount of detail of rdr2 that even rockstar has foreseen that the players find a way to take arthur to New Austin due to a bug or later on pc due to mods and allan left hidden dialogues

I went to a cremation once. It was after the Nepal earthquake that devastated thousands. Ruins everywhere. Winter too, so it was worse for people who got their homes destroyed. The smell of burning rotten flesh will never leave my memory. If you don't prepare the body properly for cremation you'll get an explosion as the flesh are all burnt away. The skull that holds the brain cannot handle the inside pressure of the brain being cooked so it explodes. It's crazy.

The fact that voicelines exist for an area that Arthur is incapable of going to in the base game means that the devs *knew* that players would find a way and wanted to cover all their bases.
Credit where it’s due; Rockstar has some pretty amazing foresight regarding their playerbase.

it seems to me it was always the devs intentions to allow arthur into new austin
whether some last minute outside decision was made by some big shot producer or Dan Houser had a mental breakdown during the final months of production that led to his stepping down either way it is such a fucked and shitty decison to remove all of the content that would have been available to Arthur, just to shoehorn John into that spot for the sake of "realism" or whatever they chalked it off to, theres probably 30+ hours of cut content from this game that we will never know about because rockstar has no transparency between the company and the customer
The reason why they cut this content from Arthur is because they want to save content for when you play as John ,because if you play Arthur and have him done every single thing before John is gonna make John’s part empty and boring
They cut this content to meet deadlines, in-game story wise and also as a product. They had a fair amount of issues with development, the first RDR was apparently a nightmare lmao. All of this was built from a game engine designed for a 2006 table tennis game
John was not supposed to be familiar with New Austin in the first game and he already has 2 chapters and several unique interactions even outside of New Austin. Is that not enough? Jack only had 1 unique mission and a slight interaction change in another stranger mission.

Yes, I do realize that. But do you realize that RDR1 takes place four years after RDR2, yet there's not a signal sign or mention of a plaque? My issue is that one of the series most iconic areas is lifeless and empty due to some plaque Rockstar added out of nowhere.

Developers keep cut content in the game even if it’s not accessible because game development is hell and changing one thing can completely fuck up multiple other aspects of the game because coding and code in general is extremely complex and not smth that’s incredibly stable especially when you have games like red dead that are absolutely massive it’s best to think of cut content like a deleted scene in a movie yeah it’s cool to see they’re previous ideas for the game but the lack of it in the movie isn’t due to laziness it just might not have fit the story they wanted to tell the only difference is it’s still in the game due to reasons explained before there’s a famous story about I think a valve game where’s there’s an asset under the map that you can’t access but anytime they tried to remove it it fucked up the game massively

Most likely it was originally planned that Arthur can discover the area that is actually blocked for him now. The fact that Arthur has voice lines for this conversation is the evidence for that.

Bro what every game in existence has cut content not due to lack of effort but because it may not fit the vision the developers wanted to tell whether that be narratively or for gameplay purposes cut content is not indicative of some failure on developers it’s just remnants from previous visions or idea they had for the game that they didn’t felt fit with what they wanted the game to be
