he and Kleco were juiced to the "gills"-Gastineau was also intensely disliked in the Jets dressing room--he walked across the Jets picket line during the 1987 strike and actually got into a fistfight with a player. And now was it all worth it?? Gastineau has Parkinson's disease/dementia and Stage 3 colon cancer. Gastineau admits he wished he never played the way he did

99 is in our ring of Honor. But he should be considered for the hall of fame. Unfortunately, with how long it took just for Klecko to get it, we may be waiting a while longer.

Mark Gastineau remains my favorite NFL player of all time- all because of his impressive reaction to making a sack..... Being a young adolescent in the early 80's, his "dance" was very impressionable on me and it was actually the thing I remember most about NFL football of the first half of the 80's... Growing up in Steeler Country, I always looked forward to the few times a season when the Jets game would be on TV in hopes of seeing #99 in green & white make a few sacks and then go nuts- rarely was I disappointed....
I came to youtube today with high hopes of finding a Gastineau sack montage of uncut full plays (with post sack celebration included)... This production was the best I could find; thanks for the post... I miss those good ol' days..

MG was great and should be in the HOF. Unfortunately, quite a few people will only remember him for 2 things: the Kosar hit and Brigitte Nielson. Those shouldn't take away from his amazing on field work. And he held the season sack record until Favre took a dive for Strahan.

I had the chance to meet the man in person back in 1993 at the Jack Lalanne GYM in Brooklyn New York on Kings Hwy and Coney Island ave..i had no idea why he was there and i got to meet him 3 times once with his mother..i was in heaven..there he was the sack master himself..he stuck out of everyone in the GYM like a tree.. Larger than life..this was when he was a boxer..i spoke to him along with this other guy who was just excited as i was..the first 2 times i met him i was just getting off the bus and as i was crossing the street he was on his bicycle and as we got to the door of the GYM i was talking to him as i held the door open for him..me and my dad went to the Jets camp many times every summer at Hofstra..this was during the 1990s i miss those days and i miss my dad..but i will always cherish my meetings with Mark Gastinaeu.#99

Speed, strength, viciousness & non stop motor was trademark Mark Gastineau. He was hated for his sack celebrating something that all players do now regularly. Gastineau was my favorite NY Jets in the 80’s. He’s better than HOF Howie Long. No DE had a better 4 year total of sacks 1981-20, 1983-19 & 1984-22. Gastineau only played 8 seasons and 1986-1987 were injury riddled seasons. He was the single season sack leader until Brett Favre layed down for Michael Strahan to break that record. Love him or hate him he was just as destructive as LT on the field. Gastineau belongs in the HOF.
