Damn I would love to apply. Only issue is the that this job ain't good for those who are raising a big family or for someone who is looking to settle down. I'll stick with the local law enforcement for now and see how life goes. This job will test you like the military where you will relocate a lot and leave behind friends/families/etc.
What they don’t tell you is that when you go overseas you need to pass the 6-9 month course to learn the language. So good luck if you have to go somewhere, where the language is tough to learn
Well, if you enjoy language learning then it's a good fit for you.
I honestly do not think that every DSS Special Agent assigned to an embassy posting overseas are fluent in the local language, that would be logistically impossible. The State Department has a language school, and there are different "levels" of language training based on the needs of the job. The DLPT (defense language proficiency test) is given to soldiers, diplomats, etc to test their language abilities. I don't think that DSS special agents need to be fluent, maybe a 6-9 month "basic course" is just a bare bones, basic language school, it is not meant to make them fluent, fluency takes YEARS. The basics is just to give them a background. At the end of the day, DSS Agents work for the State Department, and they need to have some basic level of language proficiency in order to communicate with the locals and host nation counterparts, once they pick up the basics, the rest they will learn when working in the country, and on the job. And, if you don't like learning languages, then, perhaps a career as a diplomat is just not for you.
@@jedfoster3155 learning on your own pace via duo lingo is very different than them telling you - you must learn Arabic in 10 months and be a 2+ proficiency from the DLAB standards where 3+ is max
@@stevekrishnan7498 yea and when you arrive and do very little communicating you lose it . If one doesn’t practice it - you lose it - I think it’s a bit more than just being familiar - I believe you need to score a 2 or 2+ on the DLPT EXAM. 3+ being highest
What if one already knows and speak the language fluently. Do they send you to the country that you are fluent/native language
Greatest job in the world. It's certainly not perfect -- but nothing is. The experiences, the lifestyle, and the benefits outweigh the stress and challenges.
Good Afternoon,
Where is the DSS Practice Testing? I have the exam soon, but I haven’t found any type of study material.
Thank you! Very excited for this opportunity
Please reach out to DSScareers@state.gov for more information about the test. Good luck!
Yes!
0:31 Awesome video, great law enforcement agency! But what graphics intern "designed" these new special agent badges? The font dimensions, proportions and placements on these badges are horrible (especially on the inner circle). And who was the legally blind person in charge, who approved this new design?
How can i get my package if it's already Rich there

I LOVE YOU MY TOP SECRET SERVICE GOOD JOB DETECTIVE INVESTIGATION POLICE INTERNACIONAL 🙏✍️👊👊💪👍👍🙏👊👊💪👍🙏👊💪💪👍👍
I’m confused why the application isn’t on USAJOBS like other regular 1811 jobs 😂😂? It has made it harder to make an account. I have been waiting for a week for it to be approved
It's on USAJOBS for years, it's literally open right now April 29, 2023
Did you guys just recently change your badge??
@@alexbattenberg5638 I think the other one looks better, more in proportion. Have you seen the new Postal Inpectors badge, that is a thing of beauty. Another badge that needs to change due to looking odd and not proportionate is the special agent badge for US Army Counterintelligence, it has an unusual box shape above the seal which looks very odd and unnecessary. Cheers
Does one have to be a US citizen to be accepted or does the DSS accept citizens from allied nations as well?
Thanks for your question. Yes, you must be a U.S. citizen to apply.
Where can I Apply? I passed arm guard & scurity class.
I'd sell my kidney to have this career, but then I would fail the physical

Hallo Im Indonesia
Well, we must admit - if you have a Diplomatic Passport from the United States of America this is a BIG Plus!
Interesting fact - in my country Bulgaria, the diplomats and overall everyone who has a Diplomatic Passport is with Special Status - they Cannot be stopped by the police and if let's say they commit some crime, the situation is sending to their Embasadory, not to Judges, Jails, Courts etc.
The diplomats use cars with special, red plates and this is how you can recognize them.
You always have to know someone to get an interview.
Not true…I applied and have no contacts and I’m going through with it
My nephew is an DSS Agent from Texas
That's not a job! Would love that.
Why do you have to disclose your sexual preferences at minute 2:59? Question, do you get special treatment if you are other than heterosexual? This is a Federal job. Who do you like to sleep with shouldn't be in the advertising video, just in my opinion. And no, I am not anything phobic.
unprofessional right
