Thank god someone remembered this gentle genius of a cricketer and very good human being. Just like Dravid this gentleman also didn't get the credit which he deserved. My most favorite cricketer and i remember watching him in Madras in my childhood and never missed any game of his be it a test match or ranji or buchi babu trophy . It is very sad that no one talks about him or may be even remember him but I am pretty sure that serious cricket lovers who really love the game will remember him always, the one of the few most stylish cricketer ever to grace the field.
He is one of India's greatest batsman ever to play for our country. He will always be very special in the hearts of cricket lovers and pundits of the game
be it in vizy, gava, tendul, styles, only batsmen from mumbai come well where comes this karnataka state ? cheating by earth after getting won by chance to make history happen any string coordination not getting approved by bagawaan puttaparthi sri. sathya sai baba
No cricket lover of any country will ever forget GRV.
Who plays late cuts right from the gloves of wicketkeeper.??
My school days cricket hero....thanks sir
A great stylist with an array of breathtaking cuts, drives. I always remember his square cut, late cut, cover drive & especially ondrive. Would go to watch all his Ranji matches. Lucky to have had a chat with him after India's tour of WI & England. Amazing guy.
India gratest stylist Player in India
We r miss you
His simplicity & mannerism was found in him when he came to play a tournament for State Bank at Nehru Maidan. He enquired about DAYANAND KAMATH who was almost knocking at the TEST doors.(Well appreciated by a person no less than Gary Sobers)
Finest artist of cricket,
A great cricketer, stylish, committed and non controversial cricketer who gave 100% effort to the country. Never played for records but always remain favourite worldwide. A gentleman cricketer is always my favourite
GRV - Unforgettable mannerisms and strokes uniquely described by the commentators of his time . A few examples ...
....Does a little bit of gardening, touches the tip of his left pad and the right, followed by touching the tip of his cap , Vishwanath waits for the bowler to come in....
.... Flicked away. .. 'bisecting' the forward and back ward short leg all the way to the boundary for four runs . A sweetly timed wristy shot that.
... Ferocious cut. Just Short of the length, Vishy jumps on to his back foot to get in the top of the ball , and plays that trade mark wristy square cut. The ball race between the point and gully for four runs...
It is still happening in front of my eyes.
GRV - Gundappa Rangappa Vishwanath aka Wristy Vishy.
Cricket isn't poetry, but GRV batting was like poem taking the form of the sport we call cricket !
Unique batsman. !!!
Well said
Wow! That was how Suresh Saraiya, Anant Setalwad used to commentate..!👏👏👏
@@lalithamuralidharan9026Yes. They created a picture in front of our eyes.
Well explain sir🙏🙏
@@ravindrasuryawanshi549 🙏
100% true sir he is my favourite cricketer tq
Vishy is still my hero. His late cuts and square cuts are matchless. He never wore a helmet to face the speed gaints of west Indies, England and Australia .The most stylish cricketer the world has ever produced.
Sir, you have said it right, square cuts and late cuts, Vishy was next to God. A gentleman, respected all over India.
Sir, please add those wristy flicks to the late cuts and square cuts.
I understood 'bisect' due to GRV. I had heard the commentators say on a number of occassions ... and GRV has flicks 'bisecting' the backward and forward shorleg.all the way for 4.
When a pacer bowled a short and rising delivery the commentator would add he jumps back to get on the top of of the ball and .... bisecting. ...... would follow. At my first opportunity to watch GRV live at Brabourne he played that flick.
It went to the fence exactly from the centre of the 2 shortlegs.
Also those On drives by wristy Vishy were treat to eyes.
If cricket was an language then Vishwanath would be a poet.
If criclet was a canvas then GRV was a painter.
Style with technique...... made GRV unique..
GRV, called as Vishy, my childhood hero. Amazing batsman and great human being. I have cried for many days when he was dropped after returning from Pakistan.
🙏🙏🙏
My school days cricket hero. A thorough gentleman. He was the first hero in my childhood days.
My all time favorite cricketer. Most elegant and supreme artist. Played Cricket as an art. Above all a thorough gentleman
Great player
I had an opportunity of eating together in a hotel in 1973
My favourite batsman. My God of Cricket.
खूप खूप धन्यवाद! विश्वनाथ यांच्या सारख्या महान खेळाडूची आठवण केल्याबद्दल!
See the lavish life style of todays cricketers, feel very sorry for our great heroes of our era.

G R A GREAT TECHNECIAN
Vishi was great humanbeing gentlemen cricketer. His squarecut hitting was famous, he was one of my favourite cricketer.
Have you seen his late cut & ondrive? They were superb & would leave us breathless!
Not a single cricketer plays the square and late cuts so effortlessly and artistically as Gundappa Vishwanath. I am fortunate to have lived during his playing days. What a Master he was!!!!! Class apart and a cut above all else. Late in 1969 against Bill Lawry's Aussies in Kanpur was his first Test. Amazing entry and what a treat! Still green in my mind.
My childhood hero Gundappa Ranganath Vishwanath
Indeed Vishy should have defnitely played in the 1983 world cup and continued thereafter for a couple of years. But he was a True Sports Star and Quit when people asked WHY and np WHY NOT.
Pur country politics in all ares Meritike a back.seay
One of the best indian batsman ever,he is very attractive batsman, known for his square cut.Vishy is the best batsman after Gavaskar,in their prime days. But his 97 n.o,is perhaps the best innings ever played by a international batsman.
I salute Vishy
Do not include gavaskar as good batsman it is better if Vengsarkar is second best not the selfish player gavaskar who played for his own individual records .
Well said Sir
Absulotely right that was a magnificent innings. On that day no bowler could take his wicket. On the otherside there were Roberts, Boyse, Holder and Julian. This is the best innings of Vishy for me. A salute to little master of Karnataka.
I love his game great vishey
One of the finest ARTIST of the batsmanship
Vishy was called Maharaja at crease! He could play any ball to any direction without worrying about who is bowling!!
He is still a God for all the karnataka cricket lovers🙏🙏👌👌👍👍
Classy, Stylish and a thorough Gentleman!!!
Yes
In the words of MAK Pataudi, when the going gets tough, Vishy gets going. Supreme artist.
He is a great sportsman. I remember the incident given at 3 mins 7 seconds in this video. He should be given Gentleman cricketer award for this.
GRV master of late cut
Vishy and Chandra are match winners of Indian test cricket very rare 2 Gem of Indian team
2 famous personalities from Fort highschool BharathRathna vishveshvaraya and clasic gentlemen cricketer Little master Vishy we are proud of it
My favourite cricketer Sir GRV. He is a book of cricket, author of strokes and symbol of unselfishness. Great to hear about him
GRV thrived when pitch and conditions suited bowlers. There was nothing like getting set when he batted. Only danger was whenever he would be batting with individual score around 30. Thats when he could be out after playing one of his trade mark square cut . GRV scoring beyond beyond 40s would mean India win.
Hi vishy sir I am ur feverate fan from the beginning my name is BA.mohan from bengluru Sri nagara

The best odi innings of Vishy Sir. A morale-boosting performance in 79 wc
A high caliber player who always always put the team’s interest ahead of his own. A gentleman indeed. At the time he retired from the Indian team I wished he had played a few more years.
Could not forget 1980 Jubilee Test against England at Bombay under Vishy's captaincy , where he called back Bob Taylor , after umpire made a mistake ... then Taylor n Botham , won the Test for them ...
My all time favorite batsman.. During college days, the cricketing discussion, in our group was always about who's better, Gavaskar or Vishy...and the ardent Vishy follower that I was and still am, I would end the discussion saying I'd rather watch a forty or fifty from Vishy's blade than a 100 or double hundred from Gavaskar's. Such was his grace, timing and style... And this is not taking away anything from Gavaskar's contribution to Indian cricket.
Vishi will be remembered as the artist of square cut .
We're very fortune to have him and known for his sound batting skills and great temperament of grace
When Vishwanath bats we say cricket is at its best. No match to his quality batsmanship. Great indeed.
I realize Im kind of off topic but does anybody know a good site to watch newly released series online?
My Cricket inspiration from 1970-78 came after I started listening to the commentary when Vishy was playing where I just imagined how he would have played those shots of what was described by various commentators!! After 1978, I started watching doordarshan TV as and when A test match was played...
I was amazed at one particular shot he plays Not often but to Good off spinners, To A good length Ball, playing forward defence like, but just turn the wrist towards mid wicket and the ball rolling over mid wicket and square leg boundary..
I have not seen anyone except Vishy, in my 50+ years of cricketing experience, playing this particular shot and every time he played this shot, it always crossed the boundary. Means, he exactly knows which is The Ball that deserves this shot that would fetch A boundary!!!😅😍🤣
Totally an unique artistic batsman. He cannot be compared with any player.A real gem of India.
1969_ kanpur test against Australia...vishy,s debew... He scored A DUCK AND A TON... 0 and 169....one of the rare stylish
Stylish batsman of those days... Really a true gem batsman...
As a young boy here in UK used watch him on tv in tests was very impressed how he could hit ball with no effort but it was wizzing to the boundary
Ultimate crisis player India or world had ever seen. He played with ease when others found it impossible to play.
He is my all time favourite batsman.

Vishy is a greatest cricketer of all times who cannot be compared to any other player for his classic batting and a great human being & a superb gentleman....👍
One of the greatest batsman during his days especially square cut was his favourite shot also he used to have late cut during his days there were lot of fast bowlers during his days even he would participate in Ranji trophy for karnataka he was called Little Master I think we have to remember his calibure also he was known for sathya Harishchandra when ever edging ball to wicket keeper never used to wait for umpires decision he used to walk to the pavilion on his own in. His days no third umpire only field umpires he used to respect them
My all time favourite ....The greatest cricketer....Vishy is the square cut specialist...He us the wrist king ....
My all time favorite batsman. Always played for the country. Never bothered for personal milestone. A thorough gentleman. Love 💘 you Vishy, a classy player
It is really sad to note no one has recognised that that he is first indian cricketer to reach 6000 runs in test cricket. No doubt his stylish square cut wil ever remain as an art to learn
An artist in cricket,an unassuming person,I wonder how he is today?
india won all test matches in which Vishy scored a century, india lost practically every test in which Gavaskar scored a century
Immensely popular at the Eden Gardens. More fan following in Kolkata compared to Sunny.
His innings of 113 at Port of Spain, Trinidad against WI when we scored mammoth total of 406 is memorable.
Good, always true gentleman....!
Greatest wristy, classical , gentleman cricketer whenever india is in trouble, he has always scored, my favourite batsman. 👌👌👌👌

अतिशय सभ्य आणि आकर्षक फलंदाज
I distinctly remwber a 6 hit by GRV. We very well know the GRV would not hit 6 in abundance.
But this one was amazing. A flick off the legendary offspinner Lance Gibbs, went over the rope. It was just a flick !!
The 1974 - 75 home Series against West Indies is arguably "Viswanath Series" as he singlehandedly made the Series a close one (as Sunil Gavaskar was not available for major part of the Series).
A great sportsman, I remember the incident given at 3 mins 7 seconds in this video. He should be given Gentleman cricketer award for this.
Vishwanath was my most favorite cricketers. However, he is not the cricketer to have scored a duck in first innings & a century in second innings on debut. The others are Andrew Hudson & Mohd Wasim. Plz correct me if i am wrong. Liked the video. Would like to know more about Sehwag
We remembered him as a gentleman cricketer
When he was playing i will be nervous and my hands will be wet, because i love his way of batting and gentlemness.Whenever he scored century India won every time.Even I like him more than Gavaskar and my Sachin.
Vishy is one of a kind.. rare gem
Stylist batsman. In my younger days he was like preseni Kohli.
He is one of the best cricketer in India.
