      Good breakdown Roberto had his first professional fight March 8, 1967 at bantam weight 118 pounds he grew into a light weight that was Robertos prime years in the 70s those fights in the 80s with Ray, Tommy they had their first professional fight 1977 the walter weight Marvins first professional fight was in 73 by the time he fought those guys he was well past his prime this fight you’re showing was already five years past his prime do you want to see a prime Roberto look at the light weight Roberto one of the all-time great‘s

      A lot of people make a big deal about the No mas fight the Louisiana state athletic commission was going to stop Roberto money but Don King Paid Duran before he stepped in the ring with Ray the money already in the bank in Panama you don’t have to believe me Google it to find out what really happened Don King Roberto‘s manager and Roberto knew exactly what was going to happen in that fight

    I would go with a "Cyborg". Fantastic analysis of one of the most skilled fighters that ever lived. No one I know had such an incredible inside game like Duran. His skill was almost undetectable to the untrained eye. His innate ability to change tactics in a split second are unmatched. He was 32 years old in this fight with Moore! He was almost 38 when he beat "The Blade Barkley". The fight with Carlos Palamino at welterweight was another fight that Duran just schooled another skilled fighter. I never get tired of watching the talents of Hands of Stone. Excellent work my friend.

    True greatness indeed. And the Moore fight wasn't even his greatest challenge.
    Duran was truly one of a kind. Subtle head movement, punch combinations, infighting, very high ring IQ, and a big bag of tricks. He had it all.
    In the Barkley fight he was constantly making adjustments, the guy was like a machine.

    Barkley hit him (I think) 2 or 3 consecutive inside hooks midway through their fight and the last one Spun Duràn Like A Top (how he survived those hooks is beyond me!) He’s literally lifted off of his feet and somehow clinches Barkley to end the round

    Man what a whooping! This is why fighters MUST seek to gather as many tools as possible and get proficient using them.
    He tried to fight Roberto at Roberto's own game. Literally. Ring Generalship isn't a scoring criteria for no reason, it counts because its a clear way to see which fighter is more Boxing intelligent in there.
    This was suppose to be a stick n move (lateral movement) occasion, and David just was too limited.
    The tell was in the 1st exchange. Circling jab caught him flush on the turn. Says so much. That Duran was quicker with both hands and feet.
    That he had inferior footwork and could easily be forced out of position.
    That he couldn't think as fast as Duran.
    So in the 1st exchange Duran knew all that he needed to win the fight.

      How many fights did Moore have when he fought Duran? Duran had already 70+ fights. I think the experience factor played a big role too.

      He had just 8 fights, he was tremensously good and skilled to reach that level with just 8 fights, but clearly Duran was more experienced.

    Great vid as always, I'm taking my time enjoying watching all these LOL I've noticed that Duran throws his jab generally off his front foot then he ducks, smothers or pulls from the response. Since his heads already on the front foot the 2 is thrown on the same timing as the 1. Some slick stuff. When he jabs and his weight ends on the back foot, he usually is chaining it to a 2/6 to the body, or jab-slip to backfoot and roll in to smother or control the opp leading to some grappling/inside fighting etc. Very barebones and limited analysis LOL but I think one aspect of his overall "boxing game" is mixing the two based on op's reactions and building from there. Think it opens up the rest of his arsenal(?) I guess. Thats the limit for my puny brain tho lmao. Thoughts??

    This is excellent you fit a ton of inside techniques into 8 minutes thank you
    I personally love swimming both hand inside from Duran. My friend I’m helping wants to land more body shots for his upcoming fight, and although I wouldn’t recommend someone green trying all these at once, the inside control is a great one. Duran is also really fun to watch if you have a wrestling background because you can utilize more wrestling in boxing than most would think.
    Question - probe vs pin vs frame - how would you define them and do you have to use a specific part of you’re body for the move to qualify as a one of three.
    I see a frame as more forearm and elbow, a pin more of using your own glove to pin their glove down or their shoulder, and a probe is maybe the most general the way I define it in terms of using your glove, head, etc. How would you define these or categorize them by their differences?
    Thanks Gem
    P.S. I’m still planning on emailing you it’s just taken a little longer to get some sparring footage, but I got it and now compiling it so pretty soon!
    PSS lol the amount of knowledge I’ve gained from this channel over the last year blows the mind of the coaches around me, it’s been a blessing!

    • @BoxingGems
      @BoxingGems  2 года назад +1

      As far as the linguistics I have the same as you aside from probing. Probing is basically just a long feint or a “throwaway punch” to get your opponent to take his guard away from your intended target.
      Much love again Bobby

    • @bobbyCruiser
      @bobbyCruiser 2 года назад

      @@BoxingGems makes sense as probing means to scan with your hands or something similar.
      Wanted to clarify so I don’t confuse people. I’d assume you can also pin with your head too. The Objective of each is important too - break their posture, control their offense while having defense, create openings etc. I find if someone can understand why their learning something, they tend to remember the moves better. Have a good weekend hope you got a live soon!

    • @nicklasandersson690
      @nicklasandersson690 3 года назад +3

      @@BoxingGems sorry i dont agree,prime Duran at lightweight was the best ringcutter in the business,he mauled every dancer there was,the talk before the first Leonard fight was if Leonard could deal with Durans ringcutting.
      And i assume in a mythical fight we go with the prime setups? NO ONE can say it was a prime Duran in New Orleans,it wasnt even a prime Duran in Montreal,and still he beats a prime Leonard in Leonards prime weight,but i guess youre saying Mayweather is far greater and better then Leonard? I dont agree there either....
      But sure Leonard was great at using hes golden boy status to get the fights where he wanted,and Duran Hearns Hagler Lalonde had to agree with all bs to get thoose paydays,and yes Floyd is even better then Leonard on this,so if we had Duran vs Floyd i think the stipulations for the fight would be that Duran had to be drunk for a whole month before the fight,Duran is not allowed to throw punches below Floyds throat and they would use Camp Nou as boxing ring,Duran has to agree of course else the american television dont pay and with these stips MAYBE Floyd could win...
      Besides this thanks for a superb vid.

    • @BoxingGems
      @BoxingGems  3 года назад +4

      I’m not going to go hard on a different era fantasy matchup. To each his own but I’ll address some of this. Mayweather far better than Leonard? Why would you guess I’m saying that? I didn’t say anything like that. We can disagree but let’s keep it respectable and leave out the strawman arguments. Styles make fights, all 3 were great fighters. It sounds like you’re suggesting that “the best ringcutter in the business” couldn’t cut the ring off because he wasn’t in his prime? If so, there are plenty of examples of fighters who are great at cutting the ring and considered past prime and could still cut the ring on mobile fighters. Foreman, Chavez Sr, GGG,… off the top of my head. I’m not feeling that excuse for supposedly “the best ringcutter”.
      Duran and mostly everybody else’s “prime” is subjective. Nobody seems to agree on Floyd Mayweather Jr’s prime. Duran was passed prime at 29-30 against Leonard? Don’t know about that buddy. A lot of people say the De Jesus 3 KO was his absolute prime when he was 26-27. That was 2 years before Leonard. After De Jesus, Duran had 8 fights weighing 142-151 before the first Leonard fight. All KO’s and wide UD’s. Nothing there that says “past prime” or the weight was a problem. Then he beat a prime SRL 4 days after he turns 29 years old. That spells prime to me fam.
