The single most interesting leather project I personally would like to see, is, cowboy armor. Best, chaps, gauntlet gloves, the full body package. Kind of like what could have been in a different reality. The Duke style with a bit of Eastwood. Maybe a bit of Trinity for the ruff side. Got to add a bit of native American flavor too the mix. A bit of a commingled thing. Been wondering what could be done there in a space cowboy way. Rawhide done well with deep detail would be awesome. Don't think anyone ever done such a thing with full body flexible leather armor.
PS: gun slinger cowboy warior from an alien invasion past maybe. Fully clad in fancy rawhide western style armor. Bullwhip, bullet belt and all with many buckles.
This is weird 🤣😅 you don't know me but because of RUclips I know you guys and I just want to say THANK YOU im here because of you guys and I'm SO stoked to start a leather working journey!
I would love to see your take on the mandalorian helmet. I love that you show the "finishing" bits too that show experience and time, I really enjoy your series!
i used cheap brass rod i randomly found in a metal scrap pile. i sawed tip off, flattened it square and plumb. used dremel conical drill to leave different depth impressions. and cut around the outer diameter to add radiating effect. I was able to make a very nice moon impression. and i only used it once to set a moon background in a medieval scripture style on a leather-bound book.
Awesome tooling techniques! This is what we were hoping for after seeing the female chest piece. And yes YOUR version of the Mandolorian helmet would be eagerly anticipated.
Quality over quantity. Your videos are inspiration enough to actually make me want to try leatherworking. So if quality means only a single video per week, please do so. Don't let the quality of your videos diminish as a result over amped up production.
Ive been watching your vids and they have inspired me to get into Leathercraft. I was going to start with something small, using your videos as i go. But if you do a Mandalorean helmet, im starting there!!!
I love this effect, what a labor of love. One question, why don't you hold down your tooling project with a metal weight? It helps me so much because otherwise I keep pushing my project across the slab.
Wow that's a lot of stamps. Love this video and seeing how you get all that detail. It's simpler than the finished product looks but still intimidating. Do you remember how long it took you just to cut and tool this piece?
i would love to order all the tools you used in this video could you please list their names and where i can get them and keep the videos coming you rock...
Thank you for sharing your expertise. Do you need to stop, as an example, does basket weave need to end before the camouflage border, or do you take the basket weave design most of the way and the camouflage completely covers and crate creates a crisp impression. I think you used the term 'muddied.' I'm concerned that if I don't stop basket weave in time, the camouflage border will look muddied. Is this anything to worry about? Or is that the way it's done? Thank you
Wow. This is so cool. I'm really glad to see you continuing with creating videos and sharing your knowledge with the world. I always learn something new whenever i watch your videos. I'm really interested in seeing the pattern creation process as well as the Mandalorian helmet.
Hi I see that when casing, you use a spray bottle. Is that better than a sponge for some reason or is it personal preference? I certainly don't question the results, your work is superb, I've just never seen anyone do it that way. (I welcome answers to this from anyone with experience too)
I was wondering with the stamps what if you were trying to bring the like design or scales or whatever through the whole piece to the center like instead of stopping off a little bit after the border bringing it all the way through the piece what would be the best way to do that
I would like to ask how you learned to put together these patterns and the leather itself, I’m new to leather working and I have only made basketweave holsters and such.
Very cool. Yes do a helmet please. I,ve done a lot of borders but never created such an elaborate piece of art, i usually border basketweave. Great job. Now off to weaver for more tools
This is perfect timing. I just did my first tooling piece. For a custom Mandalorian (not The show character), but it was really rough. So I have a couple questions. If the swivel knife isn't cutting cleanly is it a dry leather issue, sharpness issue it both? And second when tooling are you re-wetting the leather as needed or do you just let it dry as you go?
Hey Nathan! You are on the right track with both ideas on a swivel knife catching in your leather. Having a sharp swivel knife is vital, but also make sure that the blade is polished. Many swivel knives (especially intro level swivel knives) are sold with a pretty coarse grind on the final bevel of their blades. You'll want to take some high grit sand paper and make sure that you smooth that off, then polish the blade well in order to get best results. Moisture content is also very important. Casing the leather (adding moisture) is an important process when doing nearly anything to change the shape of Vegetable Tanned leather. If it is too dry, your knife will catch on the fibers and it will dull your knife more quickly. If the leather is too wet, it will get mushy and will be hard to get clean consistent lines as you cut. It takes some trial and error to get a feel for what is the "right" amount of moisture, and each crafter will have their own preference on the matter. There are a lot of ways to go about adding moisture to the leather that will function differently. some people simply spray a fine mist of water over their leather, let it sit for a minute or so, then get to work. Others will wet it with a sponge, or do a quick dunk, or soak the leather for a long time then leave it in a fridge overnight then leave it out to dry for several hours before working it. Each method has its pros and cons, with the "quick dunk" Prince demonstrates here being a great middle ground. If you find your leather getting too dry, by all means add more moisture. If it is too wet and feels soggy, let it sit and dry out some. Since tooling sessions can take time, it's less about waiting until the PERFECT moment for tooling moisture content and more about figuring out where the range of tolerance sits and working within the sweet spot as much as possible.

You should do some tutorials for small pieces like gloves/gauntlets and bracers
I was wondering with the stamps what if you were trying to bring the like design or scales or whatever through the whole piece to the center like instead of stopping off a little bit after the border bringing it all the way through the piece what would be the best way to do that

Definitely keep an eye on the channel and the academy, I'll be covering all of that in time.

Very cool content
