Amazing Louis! The earliest I've heard him play is on that first Randy record "Score", but this is way more straight forward jazz. What an incredible sound for an 18 year old and exceptional navigation on the horn. This is some of the most amazing stuff on the internet I've seen this year, thank you
nice that we are sauntering around the same regions of the internet. i can't get a lot of your yt vids out of my head, especially desmond and sister sadie
@@Muletopia Oh, hey there! Yes, taht's exactly how it starts here: a solo I can't get out of my head so I transcribe it and make it into a video so it can haunt you as well :)
I was an undergrad music major at IU during the mid-80s, and the IU Music School had a music library with recordings of all music performances at the school. I suspect the recordings have all been digitized, I hope they are still accessible. Very mature sound and playing for an 18-year old! Thank you for sharing!
Yep, me too...and on reel to reel tape! I made copies of all the concerts when I played with David Baker's band...the pitch used to go flat towards the end of each reel! 😁 I do hope that they got digitized eventually...🤞
Where did you find THIS, Louis?! It’s fascinating to hear how early his blistering technique was already highly developed! I saw him perform and speak at North Texas State University in 1984(85?) when he was already considered a living legend and it’s mind-boggling to think it was only 16-17 years after this record. One of the first jazz learning resources I ever used was Dominic Spersa’s ‘Blues and the Basics’ improvisation book/record method. It was a great way to start!
Thank you so much for posting this.

Wow! Maybe the one day I’ll play as well as an 18 year old Mike.
Well, there is a lot of Sonny Stitt here as an 18 year old student in Brecker.

@@bryandickerson5365 It was shared online a long time ago somewhere. I download everything in case it disappears, which is often the case.
Michael was not yet 19 here...
