I have to AGREE!!! This song gives me goosebumps! I was 12 when it was released, and like somebody else said, I was LUCKY to experience so much great pop music in the early to mid-60s!
He was known as "The Voice" in the music industry, and even Frank Sinatra,, who knew him personally, raved about Jay Black's vocal talent. Jay's voice was pure gold, platinum, and diamonds. (By the way, his real name was,David Blatt.)
Sensational. What range. What beauty. Just happened to see him tonight singing this on PBS and he remains gifted. Again, he made me cry tonight. His talent is incomparable. No music today can hold a candle to this gifted man. He still has it. He continues to reach my soul. Current music has no soul. No one will be listening to the current music 50 years from now. I am unable to watch or listen to current music. I am grateful to yesterday. Vivere in eterno. Live forever Jay.
My dad told me we would talk about our kids music the same way his generation talked about ours. I was young and foolish in the sixties but hey here we are.
I sort of wondered what the females thought of this guy and his voice? As a male I know of NO OTHER in pop music that can match him! (maybe Roy Orbison?) This song is in the Top 10 GOAT songs in history! Just about ALL of my FAV songs are 60s songs, but there are a few from the 80s also. I like CLASSIC C&W music from the early days as well and some 90s C&W hits. I used to be an 'amateur DJ'. I had a portable case of about 100 45s I saved from my teens in the 60s, and I used to bring them to discos in Vancouver to LIVEN up the SLEEPING patrons, and DOPED UP DJs! I'm a shallow type though! I don't give 2 shits about the 'meanings' of pop songs! I want to STOMP my feet, I want to DANCE! I want to FORGET my troubles for a bit and have a good time! WEIRD eh??? :P BTW, in the 90s I was by far THE BEST 2-stepper in the OK Korral in Kelowna, BC. I was 40-50 yrs old then. Most nights I didn't drink and I would drop about 10 lbs a night dancing with girls half my age! I had to bring 3-4 extra shirts with me bc I perspired so much! It was a great workout for me! I COULD MOVE BAYBEE!!! L0L
Between Jay Black and Billy J Kramer, Gene Pitney and Alan Clark we had the greatest singers of all time in our youth. What a priviledge to have been around in the 60's. (I know there are more singers but these come to mind since I have 90% of all their recordings yet).
One of the great songs sang by such a talented singer. Even in Jay's early 70's he could still hit these high notes really well. A great and successful Group from the mid 60's.
This is marvelous. My dad used to play this when I was a punk kid. He did me a great favor exposing me to stuff from this era. Still have some on 8 track. Artists today just are not quiet the same. These guys were humble and real.
This is too wonderful. What a voice! I'm afraid there is no longer so wonderful voices in today's times. This is a delight, I can not stop listening / watching this video over and over again. The singers of today in general are disgusting! One can resort to decay (eg, naked, scandals, sound arrangements stop correcting their mistakes) in order to be popular, but talent? little or nothing! (google translator was used here).
Yup, in the 60s when music was at its ZENITH, (look at the "TOP 100 HITS"), this guy showed us another level of BRILLIANCE! I was lucky to be there to experience this era as a 'tween'.
Jay and The Americans-what talent!! I listen to this beautiful song and how he holds a note. I heard him do this same song when he was in his late 60's/early 70's and even though he joked about not being what it was many years earlier, I couldn't tell much difference-still a strong voice and held the note like in earlier times. Young performers and kids need to listen to Jay to hear real music. Sung without electronic inputs, synthesizers etc-just plain old fashioned TALENT. No sexual overtures, curse words and just pkain filth. Tastes have devolved to that. I miss the beauty of the 50's/60's/early 70's.
A true singer's V O I C E ! Same as in another hit, This Magic Moment. Professional modulation, ART, etc. ... L-E-A-R-N from this, many of today's "artists".
He didn't lip sing when I went to see Jay and the Americans on Long Island. Live at the club and was awesome! He even gave me a 💋 😘 at the end of the show. Wonderful!!!
I’ve heard this song since I was a kid, but something about hearing it in glorious high fidelity for the first time, and watching Jay in action, completely changed the experience for me. Wow. Just gorgeous. Oh, to be able to sing like this.
Can you imagine Jay Black and the late Jackie Wilson singing a duet? Two of the most magnificent voices every sung. Jay was very very good. Jackie Wilson was in a class by himself.

My tears are flowing as I first saw and heard,Jay and the Americans in 1965 and forever have loved this group. This is true music. MAY you RIP Jay Black. Thanks for postíng this superb video.
It wouldn't be fair for him and the Americans to go on a talent show. They would walk off with first prize hands down. Before they got going, the other contestants would probably throw in the towel.
Every time I hear this song it just brings me tears. This song is so sad & romantic at the same time that it touches/splits my soul. Cara Mia in Italian means " my dear ". I get chills & goose bumps specially when I hear those words " I'll be your love till the end of time", I can feel my heart beating fast as it's melting away. It must be the silly romantic side of me, a dying breed. I always believed in true love till the end time. Maybe I'm just too old fashioned in this modern society. Jay Black's voice is so full of passion when he sings this song. He is truly gifted & blessed with an amazing voice. To all the romantic guys out there who have a wonderful lady in their life, say to her "cara mia I will love you till the end of time". Say it every so often to your loved ones cuz life is too short & can reserve tragic circumstances. We are here on Earth only for a short time, so don't hold back those feelings. This song may be an oldie but is a darn goodie!!
+Wildstar1960 Wow, you sure nailed it. Very well written. To live and understand the human experience to this level means you understand. We are amazing..., no matter what evil happens in the world - we still are just amazing.

Oh I know. It does the same to me. Some songs from then do it every time. But the one song that gets me every time is Up On The Roof, by The Drifters. I heard it once in public and had to duck into a bathroom very fast.
my god his voice give's me chills..i love from 1:32 to 1:55 .. love love love! i wish more people from my gen would appreciate this, instead of all the crap today
man hearing this i can feel the humidity from those hot summer nights, walking, crusing, or hanging out at the burger joint and hearing this type of music on the car radios and speakers. oh for those times and memories again.
Wow...sens earlyer 60`s I always like this good song, and it reminds me what life gives me, ...girls...songs... love...and his fantastic beautiful voice, Thanks once again!!

What a voice. Nothing today can compare to Jay Black. Haven't seen anyone hold those notes for as long as he did.
I can sing that and the other ones too.
Bobby Hatfield from the Righteous Brothers.

That man exemplifies pure, unbelievable singing talent. His voice is one in 100 million! Magnificent!
One of the greatest songs EVER.
Just listen to this guy...His voice can cure Corona...
Had this played at my 50th anniversary party.....had to have that voice represent 1965 the year we married! ❤️
RIP Jay. Love this song !!!
Best male vocal performance in the history of rock and roll !!!
1965-- I was 15 years old then! What a song, and what a virtuoso he was! I am so sorry that he has passed and that that music is not equaled today.

You nailed! I listen to this song several times a month, it makes me happy
I Totally agree with everything you said!
This is what a trained opera singer sounds like. GREATNESS!
My dad told me we would talk about our kids music the same way his generation talked about ours. I was young and foolish in the sixties but hey here we are.
Still cracks me up how Jay out-sings the entire group at 1:50 and Howie starts smiling in recognition of crowds reaction.
Can you believe Jay Black hasn't been nominated to the rock and roll hall of fame yet? Unbelievable !!
That voice is incredible- I don't know of any modern singer that sounds that good.
RIP Jay Black, may your spirit soar as high as your voice...
He died at 82 on Oct 22, 2021. Thank goodness for recordings so that great voice will be with us forever.
Rest In Peace, thank you for all the great music!

What a unique voice. There is only one Jay Black. RIP. You voice will surely be missed.

One of the great voices of all time...
the most impressive vocal performance in rock history, simply magnificent
Total class! Back when singers could sing - what a concept!! But it's so sad. WE weren't supposed to get old, you know?
I love this song and NO ONE could ever sing it like him. Truly magnificent vocals. The closest singer that could do it justice would be Roy Orbinson
Jimmie Fortune of the Statler Brothers could sing that.
What a voice.😃❤👍👍
I didn't know he trained as an opera singer, it show in his outstanding performances even in later years...fantastic!
A Masterpiece, never tied hearing his voice
