I can't believe how these songs fling me into the past faster than a transporter!! Wow....I'm a little school girl with a transistor radio. Swooning over this voice.
One of the greatest voices in Rock & Roll History. Nobody can hold a candle to holding a note as long as he could. His voice was so clear and powerful. Irreplaceable!!!!
Jay did a concert at Busch Gardens that I went to. I have a book called Rock On by a NY Dj named Norm N. Nite. I had the book with me to the show, hoping Jay would sign it for me. I spoke to his Manager and he brought me to Jay's trailer. I drank a beer with him. He signed my book. He was an awesome entertainer with a golden voice.

Truly amazingly sustained high notes! The only two other popular music singers I can remember being able to do that were Roy Orbison "Only the Lonely", "Crying," and Nancy Ames's "Cu cu ru cu cu Paloma." There may be others, also, but in every case these were singers with tremendous lung power and superior vocal range talents. Opera singer skill sets which emerged from the depths of in popular music and rock, redefining their respective chosen venues. Present day "music," or what passes for it, has more pretenders than true talents with genuine singing skills. Moreover, the popular music of today utilizes very little worth listening to, mostly what would have been considered to be unworthy of recording in the long years of leading up to the present.

It's the world's loss when music alters so much that it ceases even being musical. No wonder these memorable past songs remain popular, even with some younger generation listeners. The fortunate silver lining to all of the downer sounds of today is that, so long as there is an internet, the great music of the past will be available as an alternative to the mush that is labeled as music now. Whatever the future holds in music, the option to choose to listen to great sounds will be preserved, and be available for new generations.

Their rendition of “This Magic Moment” is absolutely the best and brings me tears every time I hear it. It was one of two songs that takes me back to my first love. Nothing ever replaces a time like that in young love.
Music like this will NEVER die as we will ALWAYS appreciate it forever and generations to come. Perfect while on a hot day by pool relaxing and soaking the suns rays and relaxing Amen!
Thank you for this.......I had no idea they sang some of these songs. I was born in 63 and have all of this wonderful music in my memories form my parents.
Loved Jay and the Americans! Beautiful 🎵 songs and great harmony. They bring back lovely memories of growing up in the 60's! "Forever until the end of time!" R.I.P. Jay Black.
dytrog thesynth he is the member that was previously a member of The Mystics and the attempt to perform Hushabye is poor at best. It isn’t Jay Traynor singing on here and it is a low quality cover of the groups hits.🤷🏻♂️🐻
My beautiful Uncle Sandy Dean and the amazing Jay and the Americans! Thank you for an amazing show Saturday night here in Florida! What a treat! Love you all!
For just a moment in the rock timeline, Jay and the Americans: This Magic Moment. You couldn't beat the sound of that song. If you didn't have a special love, you wanted to think that song was written for the moment you did have.
The Drifters do a great version too. The albums by Jay & the Americans ("Sands of Time" and "Wax Museum") were covers of songs that were recorded and popular by other artists. Still Jay & the Americans were great!🤔😊👍
Sadly, Jay Black passed away this weekend. He was 82. He took the name Jay Black from the original founder of the group back in 1962 I think. His band dubbed him "The Voice". Well earned. You're in a class all your own. RIP Jay.
LOVE! LOVE! LOVE! JAY BLACK! WHAT A VOICE! EVEN IN THESE TIMES, NO ONE CAN HOLD A CANDLE TO HIM! WHY WEREN'T JAY AND THE AMERICANS INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME? RIP JAY!
Have always liked their songs. These here are re-makes. There's 1 i can't find that i've got on an old mix tape. It's called 'Dolphins'. Not even U-tube has it. Shazam recognizes it when i play the tape. I remember when 'only in america' came out. Have enjoyed their sound ever since. So many good records. Walking in the Rain - another a classic by them.
That is Jay Black, my uncle played the drums for them and they were at our home for BBQs. I was just a little kid but I remember him well, my uncle played for several famous bands.

Kenny Vance did very well after the group broke up, becoming very popular with his old style doo wop harmonies
