"Come a Little Bit Closer" is a song by the 1960s rock and roll band Jay and the Americans. It reached number 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 on November 21, 1964, making it the band's highest-charting single. It remains their most popular song, according to Last.fm song rankings. It also peaked at number 4 on the Cashbox chart and at number 1 on RPM's singles chart. The single served as a comeback for the group, who had not had a hit in some time.
It was written by songwriters Tommy Boyce and Bobby Hart, as well as Wes Farrell, and became Boyce and Hart's first top 10 hit.
Jay and the Americans also recorded a Spanish version of the song, in which, due to a poor translation, the final punch line is missing.

RIP Jay Black, gone but never forgotten
For you doo-wop fans, that is Kenny Vance in the rear on right side.
As I recall, Jay & Americans are not in the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame. Hit after hit. Should be.
They certainly should be, along with Lesley Gore and Johnny Maestro. A disgrace they’re not in, to say the least.
One of the greatest voices that walked the planet.
And on that particular day Jay was wearing a pair of blue boots walk the earth.
1964, just met my beautiful wife, 16 year old donna, very in love, this song on the radio, in my awesome 56 ford, still married
you may have lived at the apex of humanity. no sarcasm; this was just tops.
That's sweet
RIP the three members of Jay and the Americans

July 2024 ❤❤❤❤
Jay and the Americans and Gene Pitney, great voices.
Amazing song ❤ always and forever! RIP Jay 🌹
Jay Black and the Americans were one of the very top bands during the sixties. They had hit after hit. God I feel old. My memories of dancing to their music will never go away. He was a hell of a singer.
Can relate even though I'm a teen
Agree.
It's ok. I grew up listening to music og the 60s and 70. Carpenters were my favorite. The music of the 60s 70s is so much better than the meds being recorded nowadays.
Great song!!!
Guardians of the Galaxy introduced me to many good old music...as an African i don't think I'd ever come across these classics, thanks to guardians of the Galaxy
Jay Black toured for more than 30 years after the band broke up. Holds the record of the most consecutive sold-out shows at Westbury Music Fair, and more often than not, was funnier than the comedians who opened for him. R.I.P. The Voice.
Jay Black. This man was gifted with the most versatile and powerful voices in music history.
Cara Mia, Come a little bit closer and other monster tunes he sang are emblazoned in music history forever. He sang until 2016 and still had the identical voice as he did in his 20's.
Not really anything more can be said about this man's gift and contribution to American music.
Just sit back, listen and appreciate his artistry.
A true legend.
Rest in eternal peace Jay, your legend assures your place in our hearts and minds forever.
A phenomenal voice!
Agree.
What about This Magic Moment and Walking in the Rain?!!
Timeless music. Sounds as good today as it did all those decades ago.
Wow I have not heard this song in years🎶🎸💯💯
Dude killed it on the drums!
As good as it gets! Great tune!
Only heard this song last week on Boom Radio UK.
Now have to listen to it at least once every day , sometimes I play it several times daily.
Love ❤ it.
I am approaching 80yrs old , don't know why I haven't heard it before.
Never gets old, Only I do!!
Great song. This may have been one of the first rock-'n'-roll records I ever heard when I was a kid, and I was immediately turned on to the Latin sound it epitomized. Since then, I loved hearing that sound again in Neil Diamond's "Cherry Cherry," Richie Valens' "La Bamba," 1910 Fruitgum Co.'s "Simple Simon Says," the Stones' "Get Off of My Cloud," Carole King's "Hard Rock Cafe," the Cuban folksong "Guantanamera," and many more. Thanks for posting this classic!
Thanks very much!
It is inevitable that the wheel will turn, and another Generation will hear the song, identify with it, and adopt it as their own.
Never heard this song until Guardians if the Galaxy as from the Uk. Looked the band up. Can't get enough. ❤️
Timeless is right! Cute guys, cool music, easy to sing along with, and dance to. Miss those less complicated days so much.😢 Miss Jay also. 🤗 😊 Was not aware that 2 other members had passed as well. Rest in peace, guys. Thank u for this video!!!
No auto-tune, no chanting, no silly jumping around like a baboon. Just pure sweet talent.
You know their lip-synching to the original recording, right
Awesome to finally hear this great song in ((stereo)). It's one of their only hits never mixed in stereo, and the horns finally stand out
I love the part where Marty us whispering to Jay, acting out the lyrics as Jay sings so effortlessly. Never tiring to hear that catalog of major hits by the one guy who combined Orbisonlike operatics with sincere pop within soaring backgrounds.
I started laughing so much when he did that!
What a voice. And wow what a good looking man. He was on a par with elvis that’s a fact in my opinion lol. 😊
He has an amazing voice.
had
Great band of 60"s....Miss Jay may he RIP...
Love this song lots of memories 😘🫦
Great voice
Good grief does this bring back memories. The voice is brilliant and so soft.He was quite underated. MOST EXCELLENT.
I have loved Jay Black, the Voice, for years and watched LOTS of his videos, but this is fantastic! I feel like I'm right there at this recording! Wow! THANKS
Thanks.
Jay Black, definitely the best voice I have ever heard in concert and I saw Michael Jackson six times Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Janet Jackson. Yes, they are all superstars, but nobody could sing like Jay black. He was just as good at the end of his career as the beginning there are not too many performers you can say that about
Jay Black is one-of-a-kind!
The tall guy behind-left of the guitar player is Kenny Vance
Great song! R.I.P. Jay Black
Fantastic
A group of nice Jewish guys singing a Latin style song. Gotta love it.
I absolutely love(ed) this song from Jay and his posse !!!!
He’s got it. Youdu’s got the fin.
Knew I'd find a comment regarding *"Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2"* amongst the comments. And you're right: Unando Yondu did get his fin back, with this classic playing in the background.
When I first heard this song as a wee child I loved it immediately!
In my little girl mind, I saw a huge burly gypsy looking dark man singing!... I actually always reminded Stuart Whitman every time that I heard it! Love it!
Imagine hearing this song while on a spaceship having just betrayed your last captain
Awesome
Jesus, what a Voice 👍👍👍👍😁
Fantastic restore. Well done.
Thank you very much.
Amazing
They were my favorite group growing up in the sixties.
the lighting makes the dance look like the wicked witch of Tiujana. great song.

Jay was always THE BEST!
Jay's vocal range fantastic. Behind him on the right appears to be Donald Fagan?
i had a friend in high school who said his girlfriend didn't like it when he'd sing the part "come a little bit closer you're my kind of man" 🙂
too bad for her.
They were a Force to be Reckoned With in the Mid 60s .............
Beautiful professional stage dancer, (Hoofer)! Shapely legs! I hope the young woman had a wonderful life! 😸

Great song telling a great story.Real Rock
Nice sync Sammy! Great work. I hadn’t seen this video clip before.
Thanks Mike!
The storytelling skills!
This melodic scene just leaps up, grabs you and draws you in...
Not only those Jewish boys singing - but ALSO a few million W.A.S.P.s who were attentively listening - and imagining that they were Mexicans at that catina!😅🎉
A wonderful voice
He was a hunk❤
Great music.
Excellent Sammy! Looks and sounds great! Thanks! 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks very much Chris!
Great❤

Great DES mix and accurate matching to HQ video Sammy.

I believe that is a young Donald Fagan in the background pre steely dan

Wendy and I will be dancing a Rhumba to this tonight.
Sweet! They don’t make them like they used to!
This was back when your lead singer better have a great voice!
they dont make music like this anymore
A Boyce & Hart tune (many of The Monkees hits)
Becker and Fagen played in the band before Steely Dan
"Here comes my arrow", a parody by HISHE -
"Watch out, here comes my arrow
Legolas sucks
And Yondu is the one!"
👍
Hum
Lip syncing at its best.
The drummer is. Air drumming.
No matter one hell of a tune
Add Jay can really sing.
