The reason you couldn't grab the ledge in cool edge night isn't because you needed to dash jump, its because you cant grab ledges after doing an attack.
It is possible to grab a ledge shortly after a specific combo involving the shield. Now that I think about it the shield kinda breaks the game when it comes to the werehog
Few things: cool vid! I didn't know you could skip the air shoes. Second, you could slide into robots instead of just avoiding them, its just a good way to carry momentum too. Third, you can actually drift out of a slide, thats probably whats happening in dragon road. Fourth, you made cool edge night harder than it needed to be. You can grab the ledge by jumping off the water barrel where it spawns. Last, its a shame you couldn't beat perfect dark gaia without boosting. Again, really cool vid 👍
@@StarlightDX ohh i see. I still think you won't be able to beat it without boosting cuz it takes a while for dark gaia to use his lazer attack. Light gaia is just gonna die. I might try and see if it's possible
Oof, that ending must've felt heartbreaking after so much effort. But it's still a good video with a lot of effort put into it. Reminds me of my days with Sonic only in Sonic Heroes challenge, that prematurely ended fairly quickly, but I still decided to go on for my own interest. No joke, I thought this would be easy, but you proved me wrong. Good job!
watching how he side stepped the purple robots at 11:00 was painful, seeing as how he could have slid into them and both not needed to tank them and still take out the green laser ones
This seriously does deserve a lot more attention, my eyes were attached to the screen the entire time and very suspenseful, the inevitable defeat was devastating even for just a viewer. You earned a sub!
not going to lie this is one of the best videos ive watched for sonic unleashed despite the dissapointment in the end, the skills that you've managed are amazing!!
Super awesome job! I absolutely love this game to death, and seeing the ways you got around segments like the Air Boost Shoes area and Holoska were so rad! Fantastic work and here's to good luck on growing this channel out from here!!
You can easily do Cool Edge Night by jumping on the barrel where it is. Go to the right as nearing the place where enemies spawn even on the higher platform will spawn them and the wall that blocks you. Grab the ice key, place it, jump on it, jump on the ice lock, and grab the ledge again. No need to carry the barrel anywhere. I am very impressed you figured out a way over those water sections, tho. Never would I have even come close. Kudos.
There is another way to get around the issue with the ledge in Cool Edge Night 1. It involves using either sho-hog-ken, sho-claw-ken or tricky tornado uppercut followed by either the beginning of a Cresent moon strike or hurricane combo. You'll notice in the Cresent moon strike that if you only do inputs up to a certain point of where Sonic would start to do the punches he will instead remain in the air. The same applies for hurricane combo except when his arms are stretched out slashing. During this period of time, hold A and after you come out of the combo, Sonic will be able to grab the ledge. This works for any ledge and the "not being able to grab a ledge after an attack" is a property of all ledges, the aforementioned method allows you to bypass that
First video I've seen from you, and it was absolute joy! It's been great reliving these memories of the game all the way back in 2008. Your editing skills are also fantastic, as it made the ending all the more heart-wrenching. Keep up the good work! :D
This video was amazing! When I went to subscribe to you, I noticed you have less than 1000 subscribers, I was completely shocked! clearly, your editing skills have improved so much, and you should be so proud of yourself!! 💖💖💖💖
this video is really good, and also very funny! i was on the floor from the werehog saying "WHAT?!?" when you couldnt grab the ledge! keep making videos man they are great
@@Theonewhotalks can't say I've ever had too much of a problem with it. I've gotten behind once or twice, but it's not nearly the issue people hype it up to be
Plot twist, in many media, Super Sonic is counted as a separate character from Sonic so technically you did beat the game as Sonic and the Werehog, you just failed the bonus stage as a hidden character (Super Sonic).
I like to think Super Sonic gets a pass. In Sonic Adventure, he gains what LOOKS like the boost ability within the final fight. So we could just say the same about the final fight here!
Dude I had this on my watch later for a while and for you to feel like the video was "not" worth our while is not true. I would cry putting as much effort into a video like this as much as you have. I recently replaced unleashed to 100% and it took me a while. Thanks for the video and I'll drop a sub. Hope to see more fun challenges like this!
the ps2 version has cheeses in the egg beetle and egg dragoon where you can kill them VERY quickly, aka dragoon has a 7:30 time for s rank and i can kill him in a minute, likwise egg beetle if you do it right you can just keep hitting him via boosts til he goes down
I love seeing these types of videos. A lot of the criticisms I've seen towards the Boost style of games is that people hate how the game is "Tied to one button". And I've always just thought: "...Then don't?" Sure it's harder but the Boost is actually minimally required. Outside a few sections, it's pretty optional so if you hate it so much just don't or occasionally use it.
There is another way to cross water sections, which is by air dashing just as Sonic touches the water. It's a very slow process that's hard to keep going consistently, but its a great last ditch effort if you lose speed and can't drift. It also allows you to get past the ramp section in Dragon Road Day.
I skip the Air Boost shoes using that method most times I play this game. Never been a fan of the move being on the same button as the homing attack/air dash.
I already watched this but the second you said “im playing this on PS3” i subbed immediately because i used to play generations and unleashed on my ps3 that broke recently
I know this video is old so you probably already know this, but in cool edge night, you do not need to even touch the water barrel. If you just jump on top of where the barrel spawned, you can double jump to get onto the ledge, it’s actually faster than all other methods I’ve tried, but the werehog’s jumping turn radius is high so it is a bit tricky. Regardless, awesome video!
10:49 I haven't tested it unleashed, but in generations, you can hit the purple robots into the flying ones by sliding into them. Additionally, side steping lets you get up immediately after sliding, so you don't lose any speed
A good Werehog challenge would be beating it with only leveling up his combat/combos (just finished that challenge yesterday), it makes the enemies mainly later on SUPER challenging and u would probably use the shield more often than ever lol since u mention is barely usable
This was a really interesting and well done video. I honestly really liked this video. It would be awesome to see more challange runs from this channel.
So glad you decided to play the most superior version of this game. Fr I don't understand why people play the other ones. The one on the Xbox looks beautiful and in any other version, they made the stages look bad. Plus having a hub is amazing.
This was a sad ending😪 damn it, that piano piece. Bro i loved the video though i would be hella interested in a sonic unwished play through. And if you could try seeing what extra acts and dlc stages you can beat without boosting and dashing. Loved the video man
Best clickbait ever...No seriously this was a really good clickbait. I completely forgot that I had to boost into the Snake heads to get to the horrible button mash....I forgot because my Xbox Red Ringed 3 Years ago
There is a glitch in the game called qss, quick slide step. As sonic you can gain even quicer and faster speed than just boosting and instead or relying on luck for the barrel section in rooftop run you can fail the quick time event and then qss
This is really cool! Good work! While I know it's not possible to beat the Wii/PS2 version without boosting, now this video makes me wonder how much of it is possible since it has completely different level design as well as some completely changed boss fights (most notably Dark Guardian being a straight up combat fight and an infinitely better Dark Gaia and Perfect Dark Gaia fight (which forces you to literally fill up a Boost Gauge to attack)). Also no running on water segments because of the way the boost works. I should find my copy of Unwiished and see
I know it’s at least possible to beat the game without *holding* boost, as when I first played the game in 2018, I didn’t realize you could hold it down and beat the whole game thinking it was just a short burst.
When I play any sonic game I use this one play style (sonic) after a perfect honing attack chain sonic will stomp to the ground and do a one tap boost. You can not homing attack or boost in 2d sections unless necessary. (Super sonic) is allowed to boost (after beating the game) you will be rewarded with boosting everywhere
The reason you couldn't grab the ledge in cool edge night isn't because you needed to dash jump, its because you cant grab ledges after doing an attack.

The amount of times I died to that first jump in the night segment of Eggman Land doing hotdog challenges taught me that one😭
