    A couple of features I think you forgot. Holding MODE for a couple of seconds returns you to the time screen from whatever mode you're in. Pressing both top buttons simultaneously swaps between your current timezone and the timezone you've got displayed when you're in World Time mode, which is great for travel.

      BRUH I just bought one couse of the video... I feel disappointed, couse the bluetooth thing does nothing except the location and find my phone, reminders you can have on your phone- its not a big deal, also the watch management you can do in through the watch... I was hoping that the watch will notify me when I get messages or calls- it doesnt. I am considering now to give it back and buy the cheaper version like the DW-5600BB-1ER. ;( Any suggestions? Should I keep it or change it?
      PS - Dont get me wrong. The watch is amazing! But the bluetooth option doesn't do much therefore it feels overpriced for it.

    A good tip with the solar powered watches is to leave them under something like your bedside lamp when not in use for long periods of time. That way they can always get a bit of charge whenever the lamps in use

    • @taoistgoth

      @@taoistgoth I imagine that frequently exposing it to the sun for long times will lead to degradation (via UV radiation) of the materials it's made of.
      Also, if the watch gets hot, that's definitely going to take life time off the battery and solar panel

    You are right in these are the best value ones for the features (along with the 5610's for the price). The full metal ones are obviously much more expensive but they are a completely different animal. They are for people who love the look but want something a bit more dressier. Which there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Just because it's a G-Shock doesn't necessarily mean you need to beat it up within an inch of its life.

    Coincidentally I bought the same model on spec without doing any research (it was 30% off). Biggest let down is that the LCD is almost unreadable in low natural light, so thanks for the autolight tip. Also the phone finder will come in handy. I expected more from the reminders - at least a possibility to make some kind of calendar sync fo appointments - but lacking a specific time on a given day makes the reminders more or less useless.

      In Australia, Sydney, I wore one during highschool. They started to get popular around 2011 and my class mates wanted to check out my G-Shock haha. I feel like a G-Shock OG because I had the watch since 2009 before anyone had heard of G-Shocks. My model was a Japan only AW591CL. The sub-dials, markers and hands had a great shiny finish that was eye catching.
      Then the stupid fashion watch trend came around and people started wearing over priced Chinese watches from fashion brands. Those people are utter victims.

    The dw291h strips out the high tech features and it offers a world timer, stop watch, count down timer and 5 alarms for the entry level price of $30. You’re missing out on the multiband, power saver and GShock build but you’re getting a bigger and equally tough beater watch. If you don’t want to spend the money on a GShock, this is a value option.

    You blew me out of the water with your absolute final caveat. My fingers are not utter sausages, but I have had trouble with use of on-screen phone keyboards, leading to paroxysms of profanity. CURSES to Murgatroyd. I thought I was done with my watch search. Well, I'll look at the metal versions. I do think I'm getting warmer. BTW, I find your reviews to be careful, detailed and to the point. Your voice was pleasant to listen to, even to the end of this longer-than-usual vid. (I made it to the end, didn't I?)

    I have GW-B5600BC and it's the most awesome watch of the 21st century. But I don't agree that it has minimum cost for its features. Max features for minimum cost is G-2900F:
    - runs on a CR2025 battery is about 10 years;
    - five independent alarms, 4 of them allow text labels (can be used as reminders);
    - 1/100 split second stopwatch and 24h timer;
    - 315-character databank with password protection;
    - EL backlight with auto feature and much better legibility than on my awesome GW-B5600BC, sad but true,
    - all this for under $90.
    For 2002, it was pretty awesome as well. This is why I now have both these Shocks.

    A lot of the bluetooth functions for this watch are kind of redundant, and not in a good way. Using the app to set the watch up is great. Using the watch & app to log places you've been is great. But the alarms, reminders, etc are all functions my phone is used for, and if I have this watch on, I'm typically going to have my phone near enough to me, too. The BT functionality only works if it is anyway.

      That is a rare quality on many of these watches isn’t it.
      Drives me nuts when it’s the 5th of the 6th month or something and I write down the 6th of the 5th month or something like that

    Having fallen into the G-Shock Trap, I own several variations. I like the fade-out of the light, but on mine it fades out, then flashes red twice before going dark. That's pretty nifty.

      how much does the battery last?

    • @itsdavidlo
      @itsdavidlo 5 лет назад

      It’s solar, so no battery to change out. I’ve read a fully charged watch can go six months long without the need for more charging.

      The power save mode on this watch is also very good. I’ve caught it now twice going into a standby mode and I was impressed. First time I wasn’t using it and it was pitch dark and it had turned off the screen. Once back in the light and me looking at it the screen came back on instantly. It was fast! Second time I wasn’t wearing it and it went into a deeper sleep mode. Part of the reason I chose this watch after doing research is that I wanted a very efficient watch. I noticed in the manual Casio mentions there being two batteries inside. I’m gonna’ test more of the charging and power save modes

    Crazy thing is that it probably miss a function from the cheep g-shocks:
    Repeting Timer
    I was sceptical about the wrist band of this one, and it is much hevier than my old watch, but feels ligther and bracelet is nice. The old bracelet have the benefit of; easy to adjust during the day.

    I quite like my Casio Pathfinder. Not a G shock, but still pretty tough. It's got compass, altimeter, Barometer, alarms, temperature, and of course date and time. On top of that it is solar and is waterproof down to 100m which is plenty for swimming and showering. No Bluetooth or atomic timekeeping but I don't need those anyways. Less than $200 and should last for 7 years or so, so I feel I got my money's worth. It has everything I need and nothing I don't, but I do understand everyone's needs are different.

    I got the heritage edition (red and black resin composite bracelet) to replace my original one. Love it apart from two things a) its slightly larger (shoulder to shoulder) which is noticeable on my slender wrist and b) the older version shows the battery power level on the display (L M H), this one doesnt. The only way you can check is through the app and then it doesnt state a percentage of charge. These arent deal breakers for me, but for some they maybe. Great review by the way :)

    I have the now obsolete Tom Tom Spark. I cross country ski in winter a lot. Operating a phone or anything with small buttons or a touch screen is a pain with gloves on, strapped to poles. The single button of the Spark does just what I need. Plus it logs where I was and heart rate, and don't need to mess with the phone at all, and it is much more accurate than my phone's GPS. Too bad it isn't made any more. I don't know what I would get next, but this clearly is not it. Informative video though.

    I grew up wearing casios = from a young age. I now have the apple watch - if I could choose a watch to wear as a certified geek I would wear this one - very cool about the GPS memo - I do a job and it is nice to see memos of where I am and it would be nice to do memos with just a simple button press. I know there are apps out there that do this. But I could keep my phone in my pocket and not touch it and it would do this. Great.

    I thought there was something wrong with my autolight function but after checking it out casio says it shuts itself off after several hours. Guess that is reasonable to save on battery time but it would be nice to have an override to leave it on...or maybe there is..so much to these watches and I love them.

    I just don't get the idea of synchronizing G-Shock to phone time, as the watch itself is synchronized with atomic clock by waveceptor.. It's more obvious that the watch has a more precise time than the phone..

    So so much better without the background music! While I was watching your other vid (with bg music) I was thinking, "Gosh, this is so distracting. It's such a great review, but the music kills it." I was about to leave… but then saw your comment with a link to this. Brilliant that you listened to feedback! Thank you! Liked and subscribed!
    PS: Background music is like a tattoo. YOU think it's cool. YOU think it's timeless. It's neither. Just look at the tattoos of old. They always go out of style. Like jeans. But a voice, a great camera angle (like yours) with close ups? This music-less review will be relevant for a LOT longer. That's my 27¢.
