What a character, I could listen to her stories for hours - Shes needs to do a documentary ASAP - Superb content Paul, keep up the good work brother 💯💯💯
Used to go to 'Pips' ['Poser's Paradise'] Manchester in the late 70's after finishing on the Northern Soul scene. Ferry/Roxy Music, Bowie, Mott the Hoople, Steve Harley. Brilliant times.
@@PaulBSceneStories ........Good luck with that! I wanted to make a documentary on Northern Soul in the early '80's [I actually discussed this with Anthony Wall who produced the BBC's excellent 'Arena' programme and also with people at the BFI]. The problem is - there is VERY little film footage ever made of Northern Soul clubs or of the DJ's and fans etc on the 'scene' back in the early 1970's. So as Mr Wall curtly informed me - 'All we are going to have in the documentary, is a lot of 'talking heads' interviews, which aren't that interesting'. Of course, nowadays, this has completely changed - and there have been countless documentaries etc made about Northern Soul, and some of them are really good! The format is still pretty limited on actual film footage, but they interview a LOT of different people, and it seems to work. If it's any help Paul - that's the way I think you should try and do it! [when I got rejected by Mr Wall and also the BFI - I started writing the outline of a 'story' from the perspective of a Northern Soul fan. [I actually called it - ''Long after Tonight is All Over'' - as this was 'one of the three' records played to end the Wigan Casino all-nighters]. I used a fictitious character and his hum-drum life as a kind of backdrop to the sheer excitement of going to this famous Northern Soul club and escaping the 'normal' nightclubs and 'divvy' people to be with fans who were the same as him and wanted to listen to the best music ever! Unfortunately, I never really finished it but interestingly - this is virtually the very same 'template' that Irish film maker Shimmy Marcus used with 'Soul Boy' made in 2010. [I avoided watching the film - although I saw a few short clips of it and am pretty familiar with the storyline]. Like I say Paul - I wish you luck, and if you need it, I am very happy to help you with your project. Laurie
Thats how most pills appeared into clubs, what a beautifull time it was, rhythm and the energy of life. We were part of a family early on. Leah speaks truth, luv from Warrington 🌟❤🌈🐝
Lovely character this girl. I think it was Tony Wilson who said every 10 years a scene pops up. 1956 Elvis. 10 yrs later Beatles/Stones 10 years after that ‘76 Punk. 87/88 Acid House & you can chuck in a great Northern Soul scene in that lot too! 😊 something always turns up. . .
She’s a star isn’t she . I wonder what scene will come next , I can’t tell if I’m too old to notice now or if it genuinely feels like a new scene won’t happen like this
Brilliant once again Absolutely the best times ever, Blackburn parties were the best set end 1st then the convoy to party I think back now and it's just unbelievable, I remember the Es back then 88 89, like you say I was with a solicitor one night of his head then Monday morning probably in court fighting someones case Mad mad times
I’m hoping to do one on the Blackburn raves , I’ve been speaking to one of the organisers . Thanks for the feedback, I read these over and over smiling 😀
Thanks Tony, the views are good aren’t they which makes me feel I’m on the right track. We did a part 2 with Leah which is her scrap book of memories. I’ll release that in a couple of weeks 😀
Saw Lee Scratch Perry at The Hacienda , 1984 on his ''History Mystery Prophecy'' tour, Felt like we were in a big garage,, yellow and black colour scheme, industrial feel to it. Happy Days.
@@PaulBSceneStories .. saw him on the Tube, Friday t times with Jools Holland doing Mr Music, and thought wow.. then saw he was playing Manchester, four of us went down in a car which ran out of petrol on Deansgate on the way back.. lol. I think John Rob mentions this gig?, Lee Scratch Perry at the Hacienda in front of not many people. Later on saw him with Adrian Sherwoods On-U Sound at some students Uni place in Manchester on their Time Boom X tour. Went out and bought album the next day.. Fantastic memories, new to your channel, thanks for bringing it all back.
Be good to do one of these with you one day Mark if you ever fancy . I messaged you on Facebook. I get that peoples jobs nowadays stops some of us from talking about them days though ha ha 😀
