    The History and Evolution of Baseball Helmet all started in 1905.
    1905 - Mogridge created the first crude protective head gear.
    1908 - Roger Bresnahan leather batting helmet was Introduced.
    In August 17th, 1920, Ray Chapman was hit in the head and killed by the ball pitched by Yankees pitcher Carl Mays.
    1937, we had he first teams to test helmets.
    1941, the National League adopted the use of a helmet.
    1953, a new type of plastic protective cap was introduced.
    1960, we had the first player to wear the new Little League helmet in a Major League.
    1970 season - Robert Crow introduced the C-Flap.
    1979, non-C-flap batting helmet came into place.
    2005, new sets of Batting Helmets were made.
    July 11th, 2006 - Rawlings introduced the CoolFlo helmet with vents.
    2007, there was a debate as to whether base coaches should wear helmets.
    In 2008, After the 2007 season, coaches started to wear helmets.
    In 2013, we had the new Rawlings S100 Pro Comp.
    2018, Major League Baseball players began wearing the C-flap.
    2021, we have different variations of modern batting helmets.

    I don't think most hitters during the 1960's and perhaps also in the early 1970's wore the protective "ear flaps" on their batting helmets. It may have taken a tragedy to change their minds. I vaguely remember a MLB player who was seriously hurt when struck in the side of the face by a pitched ball. Wearing a "ear flap" probably would not have resulted in such a serious injury. The player may have been Ron Santo (Cubs third baseman). Seems after that, hitters started wearing the "ear flaps" or at least half a "earflap" (side facing the pitcher) style batting helmets.

      It was Santo, also after coming back, wore the ear flap.

    The very first written reference of baseball was in great Britain in
    The year 1759
    So it was something of a long standing tradition way before the official sport came into being . But the scope of the documentary only encompasses the official sport not the origin of such

    so they started using hewad protection in baseball before anyone used face/headprotection in hockey
