I've never even seen this movie before in my life and I'm actually crying. I NEVER cry over movies but this scene just made me cry. I'm never watching this movie..
I cried more at this scene than I did when Lennie died. When any animal dies especially dogs in a movie I cry like a baby they are just such great friends 😭❤🐶
"You can have any of those pups you want" It's not the same though. We have a dog now, a German Shepherd, Sasha and I love her to bits I really do. But, we had a German Shepherd before, Sheba, she was put down as she had Heart Disease at the age of 7. Sasha was never a replacement, she came into our lives a couple years later and she's been with us since she was 4 months old, she's 8 years now, but, the memories of Sheba will never go away, I love and miss her so much. When I saw this film for the first time, I cried so much for Candy and his dog.
I felt so bad for candy... He loved that dog so much, but Carlson just had to go and shoot it. Who cares if he’s old..? He deserved the love Candy gave him :( Also, Ive read the book in English and we’re watching the film next week and I feel like I’m gonna cry in front of the whole class... Edit: I sobbed like an idiot in front of my whole class
The dog probably cared about being old, it was in a lot of pain. It isn't really different to what we do nowadays, you don't let a dog grow old because he'll become riddled with illness, at some point he has to be put down. Carlson certainly could've been more considerate about it, though.
one of the most painful scenes to watch, I was cringing just waiting for that gun to go off.And the following day when candy looks down n his dog is not there, just broke my heart.
This is a messed up scene but Carlson did the right thing. The poor dog was suffering so it’s better to put it out of its misery than to let it die a slow, painful death. And I agree with candy. If anybody was going to shoot candy’s dog it would have to be candy NOT Carlson.
The most important scene in the story as candy doesn't have the guts to kill the dog himself and regrets letting a stranger kill it, when strangers are going to kill lenny George doesn't make the same mistake as candy and kills lenny himself this makes George a man and candy a mouse hence mice and men
nah it because it was inspired by robbie burns poem which has a the line "of mice and men" in it. it was talking about the time a farmer killed a mouse with his plow, talking about how the plans of "mice and men" go wrong all the time bringing you "naught but grief and pain" when they promised you joy.
@@totallyinnocentchannel7721 the whole story is about isolation, loneliness etc some characters are men some are scared like mice this scene explains it the best
A great analogy of what life must've felt like to some during the depression. Steinbeck had attended socialist meetings before writing this and I like to think he was giving a wink and nod at individualism, especially when he says to never let another man shoot your dog, as in, do it yourself, no matter the pain, or others will swoop in to do it regardless.
For me, this is probably the most heartbreaking scene in a movie involving the death of an animal I think mainly because just because the dog is old stiff and stinky doesn’t mean that he’s dying or suffering by any means last week I took my cat who is almost 13 years old to the vet And the vet commented that it might be time to consider euthanizing. I really struggled hearing that because all I could think of was despite my cats age and the fact that she is slowing down she’s not knocking on death door when I left the vets office. This scene played over and over again in my head.
Never understood why an old man who can barley walk has to live but they have to kill his dog for the same reason . They were old together I don't get why they can't go out together

This is a good movie. But the 1939 version is so much better, mainly because of the music by Aaron Copland. I can make myself cry just thinking of the 1939 version of this scene. And I saw it when I was 11 on TV. It was the first time I saw a movie that made me cry. But I was just entering my teens and crying spontaneously comes easy for girls. (remember that when some kid is used for some nefarious purpose, like Greta the Climate Alarmist, who weeps over things that no human being can control.)
For English I can to play the role of candy so I’m watching as many candy scenes I can find. Ofc I get the role of the old man who gets his dog killer 😭 makes me so sad
I’m gonna be bored as fuck now in English shouldn’t have warned the film before finishing the book but this is a sad scene and I’d cry so atleast I’m prepared right ?
If I were in the theater watching this movie and that guy who kept telling Candy to get rid of his dog, have it shot……I would have yelled, “you fucken prick!” Seriously, I would have!!! I cried when I saw his (Candy) reaction when he heard the gunshot. Great cast…..great movie!
There is a time and a place to put a dog down but I would have done it myself outside after the dog had gone to sleep. At least the thing didn’t suffer
I read the book and i didn't cry but when I watched the clip I cryed because the look on Candy's face says everything
I agree, there’s something different when you see the actor instead of just reading. You can really feel the emotion.
Lol, cryed. Passed your English exam?
I thought it was funny he said’’wellll. Can’t do that..I had’eem too Long
That gunshot in the background.... That's what makes you cry. Also the expressions on Candy say everything.
He didn't just lose a dog. He lost a friend. He lost the only thing that kept him going in this world.
Best foreshadow missing from this scene: "I shouldn’t ought to of let no stranger shoot my dog."
After seing the regret of Candy not shooting his dog
When the time came
He has not other option other than to shoot his dawg

im curious does it like say in the bible u must shoot them?
If he let it live it would have suffered so he took it out of its misery

no need for shooting
