For me, this is probably the most heartbreaking scene in a movie involving the death of an animal I think mainly because just because the dog is old stiff and stinky doesn’t mean that he’s dying or suffering by any means last week I took my cat who is almost 13 years old to the vet And the vet commented that it might be time to consider euthanizing. I really struggled hearing that because all I could think of was despite my cats age and the fact that she is slowing down she’s not knocking on death door when I left the vets office. This scene played over and over again in my head.
For English I can to play the role of candy so I’m watching as many candy scenes I can find. Ofc I get the role of the old man who gets his dog killer 😭 makes me so sad
If I were in the theater watching this movie and that guy who kept telling Candy to get rid of his dog, have it shot……I would have yelled, “you fucken prick!” Seriously, I would have!!! I cried when I saw his (Candy) reaction when he heard the gunshot. Great cast…..great movie!
The most important scene in the story as candy doesn't have the guts to kill the dog himself and regrets letting a stranger kill it, when strangers are going to kill lenny George doesn't make the same mistake as candy and kills lenny himself this makes George a man and candy a mouse hence mice and men
nah it because it was inspired by robbie burns poem which has a the line "of mice and men" in it. it was talking about the time a farmer killed a mouse with his plow, talking about how the plans of "mice and men" go wrong all the time bringing you "naught but grief and pain" when they promised you joy.
@@totallyinnocentchannel7721 the whole story is about isolation, loneliness etc some characters are men some are scared like mice this scene explains it the best
A great analogy of what life must've felt like to some during the depression. Steinbeck had attended socialist meetings before writing this and I like to think he was giving a wink and nod at individualism, especially when he says to never let another man shoot your dog, as in, do it yourself, no matter the pain, or others will swoop in to do it regardless.
one of the most painful scenes to watch, I was cringing just waiting for that gun to go off.And the following day when candy looks down n his dog is not there, just broke my heart.
Never understood why an old man who can barley walk has to live but they have to kill his dog for the same reason . They were old together I don't get why they can't go out together
There is a time and a place to put a dog down but I would have done it myself outside after the dog had gone to sleep. At least the thing didn’t suffer
Putting an old dog down is one of the hardest decisions anyone can make! So hard to let go of a loyal friend and companion😢

Well, I read the book and I didn’t feel sad but the scene was actually pretty sad and heart wrenching

This is harder to watch since losing my 14 yr old spaniel… He died a year ago tomorrow (23/8/22)… I’ve not been the same since it happened…
Is that how they euthanized dogs?

Slim was HOT in this.
Life is too fucking sad.
I have 3 old dogs right now 😓
Why the hell the problem of the guy trying to kill the dog it's not he's if I was there I would of told him leave that dog alone pie face walrus
Now time to make a depressing monologue of this scene
Man I had to watch my dog getting put down, still had to carry him and burry poor guy, one of my saddest memories
It's even more sad when he looked around waiting for someone to speak up and no one did
I feel sad for candy, he knows that his life is almost over, and his dog was his only healer.
That was really fuckd up. He seemed to be getting aroused by shooting candy's poor 🐕. 😔😔😔

@@joeylittle3535 peom written before the book : To a mouse by robert burn (i think)
He didn't just lose a dog. He lost a friend. He lost the only thing that kept him going in this world.
He was hurting and suffering. Put him out of misery.

Just remember that the dog (actor) got given lots of rewards after
that made this so much better
How yall crying its a movie 😭😭
I didn't cry while reading, this feels way more real.. I'm crying now
GOD i hate Carlson
Sympathy is something not all men have... If this "has" to happen, hope its a quick one where no one has to suffer further 😔
I’m skipping school when they play this I’m not crying in the middle of class
When this happened in class I said what the dog doin'
I cried a little when I read the book, But It got worst when I saw the actual scene😢😭
Carlson is a piece of shit
It was the right call The dog was in pain and was going to go through a lot worse if he wasn’t put down
POV you are watching this for an english lesson
Yup. 8th grade English.
Aw....... 🥺😭🤭
Hello
The poor soul was still waggling its tail. 😭😭😭😭
His
@@aacc524 Out of sympathy, ok. His. But grammatically speaking, the appropriate pronoun for animals is "it". You're welcome.
@@anibaldk but he said “he” lol I mean like, humans are animals too but I don’t call them it cuz it’s not that nice to say imo
@@aacc524 Yes, indeed. Feelings-wise, I am in complete agreement with you. Plus, the dog is indeed adorable.

i always thought Candy would just pass away soon after himself out of guilt and shame/grief.
I love how the weight of silence speaks in this scene.

bruh i really felt bad for candy honestly
bruh when i read the book in class i didn’t cry obviously it was moving but then i watch the film god this bit and lennies death got me
Not me watching this cause I’m watching it in English tmrw and don’t wanna cry 😳🥺
😭
the dog was suffering on the inside but like i felt so bad for candy :(
I came here from English class
Anyone read this book in english at school
Yeah, got my test tomorrow
*lennie dies* me: eh... *curley's wife dies* me: eh... *candy dog dies* me:😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
I feel like Carlson was making a big deal out of nothing. The dog wasn't doing anything to him.
He probably realized that the dog was suffering a lot n wanted to put it out of his misery
@@slapshot68 the dog looks happy I had a old dog we never killed it
@@elfeo2534 that’s how they used to put down dogs before the euthanize technology was invented
Just the same as saying to Candy that he's no good anymore and might as well die.
Best foreshadow missing from this scene: "I shouldn’t ought to of let no stranger shoot my dog."
After seing the regret of Candy not shooting his dog When the time came He has not other option other than to shoot his dawg
It’s very easy to bully a old weak man and shoot he’s old dog
Precisely my reason for why I include Candy in my list of marginalized characters. An old, weak, disabled man. Poor man.

In the book, Candy expresses regret for not taking his own dog's life.
