This is great because many hi gain tube amps once the more distorted channel is selected (often the 'Red' channel) it is being boosted by transistor/FET type components and not just pure tube anymore.
These tube pedals are absolutely gold with digital high gain. It will bring your line 6 helix to life. It literally makes it sound like a tube amp with that delicious tube compression nobody seems to know anything about.
Sounds really cool. Since it's designed to impart part of that "tube sound" it would be nice to see it used in combination with a solid state amp, too.
I love my Friedman Motor City Drive. It adds something to the sound that is ultimately pleasing. This new series from Blackstar might be just the thing.
I was a bit surprised when I saw this pedal. Looks really unique and makes sense using a baxandall EQ in a boost pedal. I don't know if the tube part is really necessary, but so far it does sound really good from the demos I've heard.
I'm already wondering at the first minute if this thing can help getting that Marshall Studio Plexi you have (had?) to get to Greenday-Dookie / Bad Religion/ Rise Against tones :).
Which boost pedal would you say works best to get that modern high gain (dare I say “djenty”) tone from a PRS Mt15? I would think cutting the bass on this boost would do the trick nicely, but it’s probably just not tight enough, right?
That is what I'm looking for years. 😅 drive pedals like ts, od add some annoying mid frequencies to singnal(I think it's caused by 4558 chip?). After ts pedals, all amps sound similar, ts masks amp character. In your wide amp comparison video, after putting ts in front of the amps, all sounded similar. I just want to add some gain without ruining highmids. This looks like the solution.
Is this going to be the ts killer? Asking seriously. I have blackstar one 200 and was about go and buy a ts for it to squeez even more from my one. Now im wondering if i should go for this brand new thing from BS instead. I dont really have any pedal experience. Used to be a classic pure-marshall+gibson type of guy. Any thoughts, advice
Digital platforms take pedals very well so it would probably sound decent. My axe fx II sounds amazing with every pedal I have ever used through it, but this pedal is kind of vanilla.
A little too muddy on the low end or maybe you have to adjust for that on the amp. I feel like if that's the case then you would be right and this is not a good pairing for high gain amps or channels as they don't really use it. This seems to be best for amps that need a low end boost.

I like how it doesnt destroy the sound of the amp, just add gain and extend the stages

That's not what these are for. You'd just be pushing a bad sounding solid state preamp to sound even worse.
@@davidfaustino4476 he talked about solid state amp, not preamp
Great pedal and video!

Great sound… it gives a nice boost to the amp… when the High is at the max gives a sparkle to the sound… very good!
Very thorough review, thank you!
Thanks!
Jon coaxes better tones out of Blackstar amps than most people do with Boogies and Bogners.
Blackstar amps are actually WAAAYY underrated. They're pretty fantastic given their price tag.
I have a Vox Flat 4 pedal that is similar. It has a 12ax7 in it. I like this one too and I might check it out.
I ordered the flat4, cant wait to get it, the warmth is better than blackstar boost pedal
Mmmmmm….nice pedal this one!!!
Sounds good. How easy is it to change the valve out?

Perhaps! I must try that! It's a cool pedal!
Hey Jon if you haven’t already, check out a band called Camel Driver. Very similar riff style to you. Cheers for another quality review!
Wonder how it would sound for recording direct
What is the difference between the Dept 10 Boost and the HT Boost?

Does the Peavey also have a Baxendall EQ?

what frequency range it operates and what frequency the eq affects?

I'm debating between this and the decibel pedal from wampler. Check it out. See which one you like better
Hi, would this pedal work for Bass guitar too? Thanks
Good evening Jon, I was wondering what you feel this pedal would be like pairing it with the JCM800 Studio?
Great I imagine
Can I change tube to less gainy ecc82, 81, I dont need more gain just more hights tubish sound for revv g3
I'm curious to see how this would work with a Helix or some kind of modeler or profiler.

I'm getting one soon. Will be trying it my LT and Headrush
