France asked the archipelago of Comoros as a whole for independence in1974 and the result was overwhelming positive 96% responded yes and france was upset of the result and france wanted to do by each island and Comoros went to the united nations to be member of it, after the united nations voted Comoros 🇰🇲 to be member , France has a veto but didn't used it, Comoros admitted to the United nations as independent country of 4 islands comprise (MAYOTTE, ANJUAN ,MOHELI and NGAZIDJA ) 4 islands , Comoros asked france to take military base away from the islands, france occupied one of them which is MAYOTTE by force and since 1975 Comoros got independence france never leave MAYOTTE till now , with united nations resolutions, condemnation to leave MAYOTTE ,more than 20 resolutions france doesn't want to leave the island !!! 8:50
Comoros got independence in 1975 but the people on the Island of Mayotte wanted to stay and got their wish. In 2009 there was another referendum and 95% wished to stay . Since the Island is a lot better off under the french compared to Comoros their is a lot of illegal immigration to it. To the point that over a third of the population is illegal. Le Pen made headlines for doing well in Mayotte despite it being 95% muslim because of her anti-immigration policies were very popular in Mayotte.
The people of Comoros voted for independence Mayotte didn't. The fact that a lot of them regret that decision doesn't give them the right to move illegally.
France cannot pick and choose what part of a colony to keep. The Comoros voted for independence, with a particular district, Mayotte voting otherwise. The majority voted for independence, which should have been respected.

So they must have the right of abode in their land, even if they do not have that right elsewhere governed by France.

It is part of the Comoros, which voted for independence. You don’t get to pick and choose those houses that voted differently for your own purposes except when you have the military strength to do so.

They are silent because Mayote is a territory of France. They signed a referendum they wanted to be a part of France. Comoros chose to become a sovereign nation. Mayotte is not a "colony" but a part of France. By choice. The migrants are not in any way "indigenous" to Mayotte. These basic misreprestations undermine the point that the French authorities are being unnecessarily brutal.
