- In 2009 the archipelago of #Mayotte, nestled in the Indian Ocean between Madagascar and the African coast, voted in a referendum to become #France's newest overseas department. Many hoped the change would help the territory avoid the #violence that plagued the nearby Comoros Islands, which opted for independence in the 1970s. But 13 years on, violence in the overseas department is worse than ever. Mayotte lawmaker Estelle Youssouffa, who warns that the islands even risk descending into civil war, joined us for #Perspective.

It's quite different. Haitians and Dominicans are different ethnicities. Mayotte and Comoros have the exact same ethnicities. One island decided to stay with France and is more developed. The other side refuses to do anything with its independence except flood Mayotte with immigrants.
As if the Haiti and the DR aren't the pinnacle of extreme. The DR wants total detachment from Haiti. Understandably. It wants to remain a decent place.

No she's not. She is being neutral, those who are calling criminals have no one on the platform to give their side of the story.
@@njokia7388 She is literally not being neutral. She is inserting her opinions and trying to discredit the opinions of the guest. She is taking the issue personally because she herself is of immigrant origin and sees it as an attack on herself.
That's judgemental, I wouldn't call it discrediting, she's just not taking sides. Whatever the guest says, doesn't mean it automatically has to be credible. Like I said the other party doesn't have anyone to give their side of the story, so we can't take sides. And by way, the part about her being an immigrant is far fetched. She has a Nigerian name with an American accent, that's the only thing that's obvious, your judgements are based on hypothesis.

All French Overseas Departments are also Regions, and as such they are the largest administrative subdivision of the French state.
"Département" has a different meaning in French. A "department" (EN) would be a "service" (FR).
