    “The Bible can be pretty metal sometimes”. So true.

    I don’t think this episode was meant to be anti God. The whole point of the episode, was that Rue is in the wrong. The points she was making we’re out of desperation and anger. I firmly believe the man at the diner was written to be the true point of the message. She was there for help, I believe she had just relapsed. the man at the dinner was her sponsor trying to help her out of her issues. The show itself is full of issues, but IMO this film (it’s like an hour special in between the 2 seasons) is truly incredible. Who knows, maybe I read it wrong tho.

    Hey Holden! I would love to see you do an analysis/examination of the film/book “Boy Erased.” It is a movie(with Russell Crowe and Nicole Kidman) that came out a few years ago that is based on a memoir that recounts an experience with LGBT conversion therapy. The author talks about what the experience was like and tries to navigate being both gay and Christian. I would love to hear what you think about it and maybe you could look at some of the conversion techniques shown and explain why they are anti-Christian or illogical. I really enjoy your less common videos such as analysis/vlogs/documentary. Always love your content❤

    Could you talk more about why you think Entropy (& all natural evils) are a result of the Fall? I can't see how that's just. Evil as a result of free will at least makes sense as a theodicy but I am interested in how people can believe that God's Creation was destroyed and made imperfect as a result of original sin. It seems like extra malice to allow the evils of free will (but even if we assume that's necessary for the good of free will), the extreme amount of non-human caused natural evil that a God would allow as a consequence of Adam & Eve sinning (or the evolution metaphorical equivalent) seems unjustified.
    Enjoyed the video, and I agree that a lot of the things religion advices people not to do is often bad for them if take to extremes. (Though I think traditional Christianity & other religions err on the side of deficiency in a vicious and shaming way that I think needs improving.)

      I think it's because God established Adam and Eve has lords over Creation. As leaders of Creation, their choice affected all of it. In fact, it seems like what happened is that they forfeited their lordship onto Satan. When the Fall occurred, Satan became the ruler of Creation. With Satan in charge, bad things happen.

    Hey Holden! I am one of those atheist viewers from your other channel 👋🏼 and I’m really enjoying your philosophical approach to Christian themes in pop-culture. I liked how you addressed Rue’s criticisms, but there’s one thing - maybe your Christian viewers can help me out here - that I’m still a bit shaky on. You mention that not everything that happens is God’s will since he respects our choices (the choice to do good or evil) and ultimately deals with our sins in a just manner in the afterlife. I think this justification makes sense and is logical. Where you lost me a bit was when you brought up the concept of entropy and the decay of the physical world. I understand that since God created us in his image, this means that we are imperfect. But why did God create an imperfect physical world as well? Some tragedies are truly unpredictable and not linked to an individual’s past choices. Rue mentions not just a mass shooting (a tragedy brought on by the choice of an individual to sin) but also an earthquake. In the earthquake example, it doesn’t seem as if there is any rhyme or reason as to why such a disaster would occur. So my question is this: why did God not only create an imperfect people (us), but also create an imperfect natural environment in which physical decay and natural disasters occur?

    • @lancejones814
      @lancejones814 Год назад +2

      One big thing to remember in this conversation is that God did not create an imperfect world, he created a world with a chance to become imperfect. Back in the garden of Eden, there was no death, pain, or trouble; just one law to obey. If this were not the case, God would never have said in Genesis 1:31 “it was very good.” After the sin in the garden, sin entered into the world. And through that; sin, death, pain, animosity, and even the brokenness that we see in the physical world.
      Another possible explanation could be because of the Great Flood. The entire earth was dramatically shifted in that Flood and (I believe) is the reason that the tectonic plates exist, and therefore earthquakes.
      Now, this is just how I’ve interpreted the scriptures myself and how the people who have taught me have also interpreted them. I might have said some things that other Christians may disagree with, but I strongly believe that this is an explanation for it.

      The curse in Genesis 3, where it says "...cursed is the ground because of you..." has part of the answer for you there. Because of man's sin, the Good Creation God entrusted us was cursed, it became an enemy to us. The world was not created imperfect, its imperfection is a consequence of our rebellion against God.

    Hey, I’m new to your channel and I’ve been really enjoying your videos. I just don’t think you’re giving this scene a fair analysis. I think it’s worth looking into the message of the scene itself rather than looking down on the show for featuring drugs and sex. As a former atheist, her argument has always resonated with me, it’s a valid question. I feel as though God would show understanding and compassion to those who ask it. Your video comes off as condescending and judgmental, saying that all she needs is God. It discounts what a lot of people go through after experiencing a traumatic loss. My best friend died in an accident and its tough to hear other Christians talk about how God saved them. I can’t help but ask the same question at times. Sometimes I wish more Christians extended more kindness to those questioning God.

    i love your argument but in the first clip, the guy says "god doesn't give a fuck if you believe in him, he believes in you." and he continued to say that that is why rue was alive. because god believed she had a purpose. you twisted the argument and tried to talk about how the writers said her dad died because he didn't believe in god, but what the writers were really saying was that her dad died because god didn't believe in him, or that he had a purpose. that is, atleast, what the guy in this scene claims to say.

    • @cupkakeglittersparkles
      @cupkakeglittersparkles 2 месяца назад

      to take my point even further, you talk about straw man fallacy, but that is simply what you are doing in the first argument. you are taking what she said (that her dad died because god didnt believe in him) and claiming that she said he died because he didnt believe in god. i love all your arguments but this one was not on point.

    Okay, but then what is the point of devoting yourself to a god if you get literally 0 benefit from it?

    • @yobud6637
      @yobud6637 Год назад +1

      Yeah if there's no benefit of course nobody would devote himself.
      That's why the God of the Bible is so amazing, because the benefit is there, where we can have a loving relationship with a special creator for a special purpose and then go to Heaven in the end too.
      It always baffles me how people can live not believing in any sort of god at all, because without the supernatural, the natural would cease to have purpose. If we are to believe popular science, then the big bang happened, evolution happened, and everything is pointless because we came from nothing, we are nothing, and we're going nowhere.
      But God gave us plenty of reason not to believe those lies, both scientifically and spiritually, and that is to our benefit because He loves us.

      @@yobud6637 God in the bible "is so amazing" because the bible is a book. It's loosely historic fiction specifically crafted to produce a feeling of meaning in people's life. But I'd rather find actual purpose and meaning in my life instead of escaping into the fantasy of a novel.

      What is the point of picking apart somebody’s beliefs? You’re not genuinely asking questions about the topic, you’re just looking to start an argument in the comments, as if your beliefs are fact. Have some respect for others and what they believe in, even if you don’t believe in it, because nobody’s sitting here picking apart your beliefs and lifestyle because they don’t agree with you

      @@st_orlie I think you should look into some of the archaeological evidence of the Bible if you wan't some more info because I understand that at face value it can seem like just a book to make you feel good but I know a few lecturers of history who have stated that there is clear evidence that the bible was written by multiple people but not only that, it was also combined together when it was being written. For example Paul in the new testament was extremely knowledgeable in the Old testament so the Bible was clearly put together. As testimony to Jesus appearance being so widely evident, even in sources outside of the Bible, denying that Jesus was never real is historically inaccurate and if you believe he was the son of God or not, that's totally up to you! Sorry for writing so much, I hope you don't feel offended in any way but I do hope that you look into it if you would like to know more and I do hope you come to know salvation in Jesus name. Hope I have been somewhat helpful, have a great day :)
